Reader blogs

This post is in: Readership Capture

FacebookTweetEmail

Haven’t done reader blogs in a while so here goes:

  • War is over if you want it: Random Detritus reports on the end of the Punic Wars…in 1985.
  • He’s a hippie, hippie Billy: Bill Thomas salutes the hippies.
  • Gluttons for punishment: Chimpanzee Tea Party adds a riff to this excellent piece on “foodies”.
  • Weather report: Running Down the Voodoo reviews a performance by the great Wayne Shorter.
  • You’re my favorite work of art: Standard of the Day (not technically a reader blog) writes about the song that represents the high-water mark in American civilization.

What’s going on on your blog, if you keep one?

RDF has highlighted a lecture from a member of the NCSE about how Creationism has evolved over the last 150 years or so.

Can’t stop posting Carl Sagan youtubes whenever they pop-up.

And thanks to Cole, I’ve discovered The Ricky Gervais Podcast. I’m listening to Series 3 right now. We are a nation of Karl Pilkingtons.

My first-ever Balloon Juice comment, appropriately self-congratulatory.

I write a lot about film, at my own blog and some other places, and this week wrote about the 1970 Paul Newman movie “WUSA,” out on DVD recently. It’s only so-so, but it foresaw a lot of the FNC/Limbaugh shite we see on the airwaves nowadays.

Here’s my own blog post, with a link to the original review (at Slant Magazine): http://busybeingborn.com/?p=1142&preview=true

Pleasure to be commenting after years of reading.

My blog is full of comic book reviews. Bah, even I’m bored with that crap.

The thing I think is especially interesting, however, is this thing about the governor of Wisconsin just out of the blue threatening to call out the National Guard on state employees…

You’re my favorite work of art: Standard of the Day (not technically a reader blog) writes about the song that represents the high-water mark in American civilization.

One of the people I commute with is a school teacher. She noted that some of her second graders were glad that they were off this coming Monday and didn’t much care why.

I suggested that she tell them that the country was celebrating Lincoln’s Valentine’s Day.

I don’t have much other than not-so cheap shots at torture advocate Marc Thiessen and Erick Erickson.

Thiessen uses Marxist logic from the 19th century to justify GOP opposition to any changes to the Affordable Care Act.

Erickson is upset about gay republican showing up at his CPAC party.

Stinkin’ Thinkin’: Muckraking the 12-Step Treatment Industry

We’re still on the outer fringes of crankland, because — you know — what kind of a jerk would try to take away an addict’s last hope.

But, if you want a great case in point for what can go wrong if we give creationists a seat on the school board — or allow religion to influence public policy — visit us and see what happened to a whole branch of medical science and social services when the faith-healers took over.

I officially launched my site http://CentralCoastFoodie.com in December and am having fun developing several themes related to sustainability, including “eat your garden,” “learn to cook,” “ride a bike,” and “support your neighbors.”

For the first post in the “Food on Film” series, I reviewed _Tampopo_ (1985), the Japanese film about learning to live through food. It was fun to produce my own interpretation of this film and to exercise publishing control of my feminist, English major thoughts right there on my own site. VERY COOL!

But yep, same dude. Multitudes! People contain ’em.
