Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

FFS people, this was a good thing. take the win.

If West Virginia and San Francisco had a love child.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Everybody saw this coming.

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Let there be snark.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

It’s easier to kill a dangerous animal than a man who just happens to have different thoughts/values than one’s own.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

From our Food Goddess, TaMara:

I’m still getting my feet under me after being in the Boston area for a week, it is amazing how much stuff can accumulate when you are gone. I haven’t even had time to go near the kitchen and cook anything beyond the basics, very happy to come home to 60 degree weather, though. Makes me long for grilling season. Tonight’s menu is a favorite. Pasticcio is kind of like a Greek mac‘n cheese, but the cinnamon and nutmeg give it a rich, exotic flavor. Every time I bust this one out at a dinner, the guests want the recipe. Continuing the Greek theme, the salad is full of fresh flavors with a little touch of honey to sweeten the deal. You can finish up with some baklava, but I prefer the apples and walnuts over ice cream.
__
On the board tonight:
__
__
1. Pasticcio
__
2. Salata Meze
__
3. Chopped Apples w/honey & walnuts over ice cream

Recipes and shopping list at the link.

really? I fire up the charcoal grill (a Brinkmann with an offset smoker box) all year long here in MN, even if it’s below zero…

Nom! It used to be that the idea of cinnamon and nutmeg in anything but a dessert would get an “Urk!” response from me. But since discovering Somali food, my horizons have been expanded.

Funny, we were talking about mac and cheese at work today, and the variations thereof. I’m going to have to give this a try. Thanks!

I can’t begin to explain how offended I am about a Wonder Woman remake. No one will ever come close to Lynda Carter. She was the ultimate inspiration for little gay boys everywhere. At least ones born after 1970.

Well, her and Dorothy Zbornak (for the teenage years.)

    @Hal:

I don’t mind a Wonder Woman remake, but the actress chosen just doesn’t do it for me, and the description of the show’s premise jut doesn’t sound good enough to me, plus it’s David Kelley and I’m concerned about the possible crap that kelley has done.

I know of no other issue that crystalizes the right wing penchant, or basic nature, for lying through their crooked teeth, than the whole Net Neutrality struggle.

It was made to highlight the opportunistic nature of the lizard brain to bullshit the American public. And the goopers in the House and Senate are feeling froggy and will introduce an identical resolution in both chambers, to unravel the recent FCC ruling mostly in favor of Net Neutrality. And as always they frame it the exact opposite of what it is, or government get your hands of the free internet.

And it looks that way to the ordinary rube, the feds making rules usually does entail some kind of regulation. But in this case, the regulation is no regulation, of the telecoms to squeeze profit out of every last digit passing through the tubes, and especially per normal, especially poor people by setting up toll roads on the info highway, and also tampering with favored content over unfavored, that could be pol speech easy as not.

Enter chief asswipe and big telecom ball washer, Eric Cantor

Supporters have argued that the rules are needed to ensure an open Internet but opponents have decried them as unnecessary government intervention.
Republicans in the Senate and House formally introduced a matching “resolution of disapproval” on Wednesday seeking to reverse the rules.
House majority leader Eric Cantor, a Republican from Virginia, said the resolution is intended to “debunk the FCC’s harmful and partisan plan to regulate the Internet.”

Liar, it is to keep the internet running free and unregulated by well paid censors and profiteers at Verizon and Comcast et al.

And i swear to the FSM, if dems don’t stop them, I will become an urban revolutionary with arthritis and a small dog.

@debit: When I first saw a recipe for this dish, that was my thought – cinnamon and nutmeg in a meat dish? Yuck. How wrong I was. It doesn’t taste like cinnamon and nutmeg, it just adds a richness to the entire dish.

I have not had Somali food, any suggestions of what I might start with?

@TaMara (BHF): Sambusas! They are little pastries with meat filling that are incredibly yummy. I’ve used this recipe, but nothing beats an authentic Sambusa. There’s also Somali rice, which has cinnamon sticks, and this one place makes a salad that doesn’t use dressing; just serves up the greens with cilantro and a diced tomato/onion/pepper topping and lime wedges. I’m still trying to come to terms with the goat meat. I can eat it, and the seasoning is yummy, but the texture is wrong and it’s goat meat. Heh.

ETA: Aso, too my daughter won a high end Vitamix blender and loves it. It is certainly the most powerful I’ve ever seen.
