I still think Jeff Danziger is the single greatest editorial cartoonist of our age.
Who’s got plans for the evening, especially plans involving retrograde amusements?

No plans. I’m lame.

Danzinger whuffs it a bit there. That is far more intellectual thought than the Great Oompa Loompa is capable of.
Myself, I’m doing laundry in preparation to go to the ranch for four days. I kinda lurve my union contract. I can call in sick today AND still take off Tuesday and no one will blink an eye. I did, however, play it honest and stayed home and rested up.

I think Boner is on to something.
We’ll start with his job, and all his staffers.
Set the example!

Billiards night, just like every Friday night.

No plans for tonight, but tomorrow we’re going to a crab feed which is a fundraiser for…something or other, I dunno, just pass the crab cracker.

I think Yutsano managed to transmit his cold to me over the intertubes, so I’m going home and collapsing on the couch. If I have the energy, I may have a cup of tea.

Has anyone else heard of the new cologne called Vulva? I can’t believe this is a real thing in the world. Here is the commercial-

I’m just like… wow.. okay.

Two things for the Open thread:
Before the House voted to defund Planned Parenthood on Friday, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) revealed on the floor of the House that she herself had had a (medically necessary) abortion procedure.
and a righteous post from Doghouse Riley (a smaller blog I found when he was featured at Whiskey Fire, iirc) about Indiana, Mitch Daniels, and an epically dumb new gun law proposed there.

“involving retrograde amusements?”
I was thinking of a few spins on a tilt a whirl, or some fussball. Probably with a few swigs of an “infant soother” with some opium in it.
If I can’t make any of that happen, I guess… I dunno, wild sex or big game hunting safari (I feel like bagging a wild boar).

@Genine:
“the new cologne called Vulva?”
Thanks, that will come in handy if I need to go for plan B tonight.

For some reason, I’ve been plowing through This American Life‘s archives lately. If you haven’t heard this episode about crybabies: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/415/crybabies, you should. The section on Wall Street (with a cameo from Dave Weigel even) is amazingly apropos. And even though the episode is so last year, the stories are still incredibly relevant today. It puts a voice to the major themes that this blog rages about.

@jl: Pachinko baby, pachinko. Millions of Japanese salarymen can’t be wrong.
@Genine: Words fail. And the implication in the commercial that the prefume smells like ass will do wonders for its sales I imagine.
@Mnemosyne: Whatever it is I got, U. DO. NOT. WANT. Nasty ass bug that I swear is just lurking all over my job site.

Don’t you mean “Mulva”?

Love the Boehner cartoon but somehow I always picture him with a cocktail in his other hand–maybe a Stinger or a Sidecar.

Since the core of our wee WoW guild appears to be doing real life things this weekend, I’ll be diving into the Rifts open beta. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.
Once question for the open thread crowd, who the fuck invoked the ghost of Andrea Dworkin in the Thursday Night Menu thread downstairs? That was some wild one track (closed) minded shit.

Plans? For Friday? Oh yeah, I’m going to work all night to keep Teh Internets running for our customers. Such is the glorious life in the outskirts of Silly-Con Valley.
jl
@BerkeleyMom: I heard he is wino.
Edit; sorry, that was uncivil, I meant that I read or heard on responsible corporate media (internet clip from Morning Joe?) that this Mr. Speaker Boehner is something of a wine connoisseur. Whatever kind goes with smokes, I think.

I plan on watching Fringe and Chuck.

Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops on Playstation 3. Buying my girl a gift card for one of her favorite shops. Hoping Sai Cole will provide us a few pics of Tunch and the girls.

got a job offer today, but haven’t taken The Test yet. so it’s me and some brown likker tonight, while the wife’s out with the goyles.

Wife went skiing this weekend with her sister and sister’s fiance. I skip most of these trips due to having creaky knees and a really high center of gravity. Not having tried to learn to ski until last year, and sucking royally at it gave me little hope I’ll ever get good enough at it to enjoy it. The main problem being that even on the gentlest bunny hill, I can’t slow down unless I fall on purpose. That gets old after about 10 minutes.
It’s likely going to rain here all weekend, so I think a bottle of rye and mixers, a couple movies, and my kindle will be my entertainment for the weekend. Might round up a couple people to play darts at the bar if I get really ambitious.
I may also end up having to work, but so far nothing has come up.
Wish there was still football, or that at least it wasn’t All-Star weekend in the NBA. Oh well. Plenty of movies I can watch.

No plans here. We were supposed to head up to see my parents for four days (I took today off, and we have Monday off as a stat holiday). But the motherfucking, cock-knocking, sonofawhore, gonnorhea-riddled SNOW is ONCE AGAIN ruining our weekend plans.
Ahem.
I had to get that out of my system.
Look! Obligatory SamKitteh photo!

Husband away on business, bribed the teenage son to stay home and hang out with me by making his favorite dinner. Unfortunately finished off my bottle of Oban before I was done cooking, but I guess that means I get to pick out a new single malt this weekend!
And I agree 100% re: Danziger. Hell I still miss Paul Conrad, recently found a bunch of his cartoons that my father sent me when I was away at college — good times!

Does hanging out here count?

@RedKitten:
Cute!

@RedKitten: Jeesh, little SamKitten is getting so mature! Can you email me that photo of him standing in solidarity with the workers, in case Cole continues to assert his opposition to readership capture as demonstrated by the much-lamented dearth of Tunch / Lily / Rosie pics?

@Just Some Fuckhead:
Ah-HA! Another one!
I do 8 and 9 league, APA (yeah, I know).
Tuesdays, though. Friday is couch with the wife and dogs, and occasional lurking in this fetid swamp.
It is what it is.

@RedKitten: He is so big!…Sorry that you’re snowed in but it’s always nice to see you commenting. It’s crazy days down here in the lower 48 for sure. Repubs are voting to protecting embryos while at the same time cutting funding for cancer screening for females and prenatal care. It sucks.
Boudica
@Turgidson: Hah! You just described my father’s method of skiing….the one time he went.
Genine
@RedKitten:
Wow, he’s getting so big!
He’s going to be a heartbreaker. What a cutie!

I think gorging on Chinese barbecue counts as retrograde. Meat and fried meat as far as my stomach will take it.
Shadow's Mom
Me, I’m streaming Painkiller Jane on Netflix and working on a data migration prep file. Tried Damages, watched a half a dozen episodes last weekend. I found it interesting, but not engrossing. I’ll save it for some time when I’m truly bored.
@RedKitten: SamKitten is teh most adorable child.

I’m gonna cook some shrimp, eat a bigass burrito, drink some beer, and snuggle my lovely wife.
EDIT: My lovely wife who was just reappointed unanimously by her academic department. We’re snuggling in celebration.

Early to bed — big Saturday and Sunday coming.
So, in yesterday’s horrifying rape thread, I responded to someone’s comment about the myth of penis envy with the observation that I’ve never wanted anything else in the XY equipment lineup, but I wouldn’t mind having a capacious male bladder. Now I’m getting “How often should you go? Find out what’s normal!” ads. Nice.

Home watching Rachel Maddow and listening to a song a friend wrote in 1992 about the Flint Sit-Down Strike:

Normally I’m not into this sort of sincere, sentimental thing, and I don’t like songs that culminate in a choir, but tonight it’s making me a bit weepy.
The photo of SamKitten made me feel better, though.

@JCT: Wow, Conrad. The best part of the LA Times in the 70s.
KAL at the Baltimore Sun in the 90s was dynamite. I think he’s back working at the Economist where he came from.

I rather suddenly became rather old at about 3:30 this afternoon and stayed that way until about 9:30 when I recovered somewhat. That happens sometimes when you are, shall we say, of a certain vintage.
But after I started feeling better, I found this and I am really happy that I was born early enough so that this wasn’t before my time. We have seen some cool stuff on the way here.

My night’s plans are to hopefully leave work at or before 2 AM. Now, I know many of you hate the Huffpo, but I did just see this there:
I don’t know why I linked. That paragraph is nearly the whole story. Huffpo often disappoints me.

“Retrograde amusement”?
Replacing the bearings, races, etc., on a 1978 bicycle to “return it to an earlier condition”?
Price of a pack of cigarettes in 1978, maybe 55 cents U.S.
And the same thing we do every night Pinky,
stroll the web for dead threads.
