Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Democrats have delivered the Square Deal, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, and now… the Big Joe Biden Deal.

Let’s show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

    Well, we’ll have to see how this goes.

    I don’t like the guy much. Haven’t since he took credit for the 2006 election, which was won because they didn’t follow his strategy…they followed Howard Dean’s. But he was still taking credit for it.

    I don’t care one way or another about the guy, but since he pisses of conservatives and firebaggers, it’s win win win.

    Oh no, there goes Chicago! Go, go Rahmzilla!

    OT, but someone pretended to be David Koch and got a prolonged BJ from Scott Hosini Walker.

    I think you have summed up Rahm’s career strategy completely.

    @Cat Lady:
    Yes, nothing is more important that pissing off the firebaggers, certainly not having a good governing philosophy.

    It’s not the real Emmanuel. The MayorEmmnuel Twiiter account is a spoof that’s been running for least the last couple of months, and it’s not currently publicly known who is behind it. Last I heard though, the spoof account had something like 5 or 6 times as many followers as the real Rahm Twitter account.

    Think Keyes, like Gingrich, couldn’t run this time around because it would open up his PAC to actual public scrutiny, which would of course blow the doors off the gravy train.

    Almost as important as Firebaggers constantly rehashing how much better a Chief of Staff Dr Howard Dean would have been.

    It’s a bit more involved than that. What will happen is that King Richard II of the House of Daley will, in the next couple of months, officially adopt Rahm as his son. At that point, Richard II will abdicate his throne, and it will pass to his heir, Rahm I of the House of Daley.

    It felt weird voting for Rahm for mayor. First, he’s not Daley and second, he’s not a Sox fan. I’ll get over the first fast enough but the second is going to difficult. The Cubs suck.

    i haven’t followed this race, so forgive me for playing catch-up.

    how do you walk back saying that your opponent hasn’t heard of you the last 20 years because they were strung out on crack?

    carol mosseley braun: “uh, i am sorry that my opponent was offended by being associated with the hard working members of the crack community. no one works harder, or is more ingenious than the members of our crack community, when they are in pursuit of their common goal”

    and really, at that point, why is it common, and expected to apologize? wouldn’t the world be a better place, if a politician could merely respond with a yeah-i-said-it-B…., i think it would restore some faith in the system for someone to not have to cowtow to everyone’s very public butthurt.

    My goodness – you may have run into me! Sometimes, when the Cubs lose, if it’s bad enough, the Sox don’t even have to win. Like the time Brant Brown dropped the ball…

    The best game last season was the day Zambrano melted down at US Cellular Field and got into it with Derrick Lee. Outside of winning the world series that’s about as good as it gets.

    As a former Chicago resident, and Dem, and Jew I’m really nervous about Rahm as Mayor. Its not that I think the other choices would have been any better–its just that I don’t see even the execrable Daley’s love of (some) aspects of Chicago and big city mayoring in Rahm. Daley and his father were pretty terrible people, and the selling off of the parking meters was just the most obvious of a long line of corrupt decisions, but damn they loved the city (the white parts) and paid attention to the details.

    My fear is that Rahm will be just as corrupt as they were, without even giving a shit about the neighborhoods. Maybe he will be good. But I doubt it. And that matters more to me than all this blather about firebaggers or pissing people off or the sox or the cubs.

    aimai
    Edited to add that its not that I’m excusing either Daley from their horrible racism as well as their generic corruption. Its more that they at least came out of machine politics where you pay off the locals with something. Is Rahm going to even bother to get potholes filled for his voters? Is he going to tackle education with other than slashing teacher benefits? I’m not seeing Rahm as much of a detail guy.

    @J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford:

    Sometimes, when the Cubs lose, if it’s bad enough, the Sox don’t even have to win.

    To the everlasting credit of the White Sox themselves, no matter how bad their record may ever get, they will never be nearly as pathetic as their fans. (ETA: Yes, I was smiling as I typed that.)

    @aimai: I’m guessing you’ve been out of town for a while. Trust me, if Richie had been anywhere near as bad as you make him out to be, the black and Hispanic aldermen would have held a political blanket party for him a long time ago. It’s been a very long time since the minority alderman and community leaders (who, given current city demographics, are no longer all that “minority”) were the kind of shrinking violets that would let the Daley machine run all over them. Potholes will certainly continue to get filled, since that’s the job of the respective alderman, not the mayor.

    Now, as for the education issue, as well as any other union issues, that remains to be seen. I’ve heard hearsay that Emanuel is no friend of labor unions, and that’s the one thing about having him as mayor that bothers me. “Data” not being the plural of “anecdote,” however, I’m not going to go out on a limb and make any predictions about how this might play out. But I will be watching very closely to see how he handles the unions now that the campaign is over.
