Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

The current Supreme Court is a rogue court. Very dangerous.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

The words do not have to be perfect.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

… gradually, and then suddenly.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

It’s a new day. Light all those Biden polls of young people on fire and throw away the ashes.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

“Cheese and Kraken paired together for the appetizer trial.”

Let there be snark.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Another missed opportunity for Jamie Dimon to just shut the fuck up.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

In the immortal words of Michael Irvin, don’t lose the intensity.

Give to Wisconsin State Senate Democrats.
Order pizza for protesters here.
Solidarity rallies here (Does anyone know of an up-to-date link for solidarity rallies?)
General food/organization supply fund for Madison protesters here.

Let us know what’s going on in your area. I just learned there will be a solidarity rally here in Rochester next week so this stuff is spreading.

Update. Here’s a site where you can find solidarity rallies near you. (h/t Violet)

On the Solidarity rally page, all the dates are old except for two happening today. Is there an updated link? Another list of things happening tomorrow and on the weekend?

Okay, I tried to edit, but I just got a black screening page over this page, so no editing. But I just found this.

On Saturday, February 26, at noon local time, we are organizing rallies in front of every statehouse and in every major city to stand in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin. We demand an end to the attacks on worker’s rights and public services across the country. We demand investment, to create decent jobs for the millions of people who desperately want to work. And we demand that the rich and powerful pay their fair share.

In Ohio, I’ve heard a couple of reports about protesters “defecating” (love that word) in the hallways of the Statehouse. Does anyone have any reports that this is credible?

I’m wondering if the protestors aren’t a little tired of pizza. Can’t we order them some Jersey Mike’s sub sandwiches or something?

In other news, people are finally waking up to the fact that the Tea Nuts don’t give a crap about budgets, it’s really all about power:

Wisconsin’s Republican governor, Scott Walker, says that concern over his state’s relatively modest budget crisis motivates his drive to strip public-sector employees of their ability to bargain collectively. And, yet, he just decided to put Wisconsin into a fiscal strait-jacket, signing a bill Tuesday that would require a two-thirds supermajority in the state legislature or a state-wide referendum to raise a range of taxes. This is not the sign of a serious budget hawk, whatever you think of Walker’s policies on public-sector unions.
    __
If Walker believes that the state is spending too much and should cut outlays to balance its books now, fine. He won his election, and he has the votes in the legislature to pass his solution. But he’s attempting to force every governor after him to choose the same course, even if future state governments face drastically different budgetary circumstances.

    Um yeah. Duh.

@Southern Beale: One of the sites on that Ian’s Facebook link, BadgerBites, lets you order food from other restaurants. So there’s variety.

That said, a friend in Madison mentioned to me that people love the hell out of Ian’s there, so I don’t know, pizza may still be a safe bet.

This supermajority rule or a no-new-taxes pledge might satisfy Republicans ideological imperatives. But – they’re not conducive to serious budget balancing.

This looks like a good resource: Jobs with Justice. There is an RSS feed on the right side of the blog that has links to many state JWJ coalitions, so people might find something in their state. And here’s the local coalitions website.

Someone really needs to come up with short, pithy, “Why Unions?” statements. Things like: weekends, 40 hour work weeks, maternity leave, vacation, etc., etc. All of those are direct results of unions and union pressure. Soundbite-y statements that catch people’s attention might help interest those who are neutral on unions.

We’re having an “Uncut” action against Bank of America in Cambridge’s Central Square on Saturday from 9am to 1pm. The idea is to point out that BoA took recovery money, made profits, offshored those profits, and then (a practice of last few decades) not only didn’t pay any taxes but filed for returns. It should be fun.

I fear we may lose the battle (unless the Senate moves out of state for a year or so), but I’m confident we’ll win the war. Keep the pressure on, and recall Walker on Jan 1, 2012. If he loses his job, other Republicans will think twice about manipulating crises for power grabs.

@danimal: Well they don’t get paid if they are gone that long. Plus I fully expect the Senate to move on to non-budgetary issues in order to force them back. That being said this has motivated a lot of people, my roommates who most of the time are fairly apathetic about politics have gotten involved in this. I fully expect to see Wisconsin turn blue again in 2012, so long as those of us who are always involved in politics can keep up the energy required to keep the less active involved.

    @debbie:

some Ohio Rethug this morning on NPR claimed that the protesters were shut out on Tuesday because PREVIOUS protesters to the state house had vandalized the facility (including defecating in the hall). Of course NPR did not press him on his claim or when this offense was supposed to have occurred. Who knows, it may have been some Tea Partier last year protesting health care reform. It would be irresponsible not to speculate. In any case I do think its safe to assume that GOP members are completely aware of what people are capable of if they are egged on sufficiently.
