Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans in disarray!

Republicans would impeach Biden if he bit into a whole Kit Kat rather than breaking the sections apart.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Never forget that he train is barreling down on Trump, even as he dances on the tracks.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

I’m more Christian than these people and I’m an atheist.

An unpunished coup is a training exercise.

Can we lighten up on the doomsday scenarios?

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

He imagines himself as The Big Bad, Who Is Universally Feared… instead of The Big Jagoff, Who Is Universally Mocked.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

The arc of the moral universe doesn’t bend itself. it’s up to us.

Bark louder, little dog.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Open Thread: Thursday Night Menu

From our Food Goddess, TaMara:

Have been under the weather with a pesky cold all week. Too much travel, not enough rest and exercise. Lots of homemade soups, though, so there is an upside. Tonight is about recipes that have a bit more flair to them, but are still simple to prepare. If you’re not a fan of fish, you can easily substitute boneless chicken breasts: pound them flat and increase cooking time. Find a really nice whole grain bread and maybe some honey butter for the spread to compliment the fish, with broccoli and shortbread rounding out the meal.
__
On the board tonight:
__
__
1. Crispy Pecan Fish
__
2. Hearty Bread
__
3. Broccoli w/Garlic Wine Sauce
__
4. Shortbread

Recipes and shopping list at the link.

Is it possible to post something off topic even on an open thread?

Oh well. I noticed on my news machine that Charlie Sheen made CBS cancel Two and a Half Men because he was spouting off- on the Alex Jones radio show of all places.

Nobody can hit bottom like Charlie Sheen- WOLVERINES!!!!!

Nice recovery from the St. John’s game for Pitt….

In other news, Wainwright is out for the season, i.e. the season is over and it’s not even March yet.

    Fox Lies!!

It was an incendiary allegation — and a mystery of great intrigue in the media world: After the publishing powerhouse Judith Regan was fired by HarperCollins in 2006, she claimed that a senior executive at its parent company, News Corporation, had encouraged her to lie two years earlier to federal investigators who were vetting Bernard B. Kerik for the job of homeland security secretary.
    __
Ms. Regan had once been involved in an affair with Mr. Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner whose mentor and supporter, former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, was in the nascent stages of a presidential campaign. The News Corporation executive, whom she did not name, wanted to protect Mr. Giuliani and conceal the affair, she said.
    __
Now, court documents filed in a lawsuit make clear whom Ms. Regan was accusing of urging her to lie: Roger E. Ailes, the powerful chairman of Fox News and a longtime friend of Mr. Giuliani. What is more, the documents say that Ms. Regan taped the telephone call from Mr. Ailes in which Mr. Ailes discussed her relationship with Mr. Kerik…
    __
Depending on the specifics, the taped conversation could possibly rise to the level of conspiring to lie to federal officials, a federal crime, but prosecutors rarely pursue such cases, said Daniel C. Richman, a Columbia University law professor and a former federal prosecutor.

Sheepishly, he asks on the open thread, is there any reason to stand in the way of defunding HAMP? And why wasn’t HAMP defunding part of that 61 billion cut? Just asking. Not that the Republicans are planning to replace it with something more effective at helping troubled borrowers…

Words I never thought I would type … “Spencer Bachus is right”. HAMP is nothing short of a disaster.

Brought to you by GOP TV: If white america told the truth for one day it’s world would fall apart

This blog’s realization that many D Senators are not on the side of the working man is respectable. Euro lefties have been point this out.. for a while (see link above). Nevertheless I feel my spine stiffening… Do you think America has the appetite for a general strike? How about a White Riot? I know the whole house of cards only fell down a couple of years ago and Obama has mitigated some of it, but the pain is still coming, what’s going to happen?

I’m taking my moocher ass to the Lyric Opera in Chicago tomorrow to see Lohengrin with a college student ticket for $20 and taking my horrible, wasteful student grant money and buying a dinner consisting of:

Mixed Mushroom Charlotte with Currant Glaze
Roasted Duck Ravioli on diced butternut squash
Salmon, Whitefish and Spinach Roulade with shrimp sauce on a duchess potato ring
and Chocolate Pot de Crème topped with chocolate whipped cream

I’ll live on peanut butter for another couple weeks as penance if no one tells Glenn Beck.
