Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Come on, man.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

The words do not have to be perfect.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Eh, that’s media spin. biden’s health is fine and he’s doing a good job.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Paging Chuck Lane

by DougJ|  February 24, 201110:32 pm| 40 Comments

This post is in: Post-racial America, Both Sides Do It!

FacebookTweetEmail

Hopefully, the Washington Post’s Chuck Lane will have a piece about how Gabrielle Giffords agrees with Paul Broun that this is an acceptable question:

Here’s the latest evidence that nothing has changed in post-Tucson America: A person at a Tuesday town hall with Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) got up and asked, “who is going to shoot President Obama?”

The exact wording of the question is not clear because, the Athens Banner- Herald reports, there was a lot of noise at the event. Perhaps more significant than the question was the response of the crowd and Broun, who is a member of the Tea Party Caucus and one of the most right-wing members of Congress.

The question prompted a “big laugh” from the crowd, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, according to the Banner-Herald. Broun, for his part, did not object to the question. He said in response:

“The thing is, I know there’s a lot of frustration with this president. We’re going to have an election next year. Hopefully, we’ll elect somebody that’s going to be a conservative, limited-government president that will take a smaller, who will sign a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare.”

From the same blog from the Athens Banner-Herald, via Jim Galloway of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and its news service McClatchy:

Update: Broun’s press secretary, Jessica Morris, confirmed that the question was indeed, who is going to shoot Obama? “Obviously, the question was inappropriate, so Congressman Broun moved on,” she said.

One wonders whether there was a public registry for attendees of that event. And if such a registry exists, I think only appropriate for the Secret Service to interview each. and. every. motherless. whoreson. on. it.

@asiangrrlMN: It’s pretty bad when McCain had a much classier response than you.

Each time he tried to cool the crowd, he was rewarded with a round of boos.
    __
“I have to tell you. Sen. Obama is a decent person and a person you don’t have to be scared of as president of the United States,” McCain told a supporter at a town hall meeting in Minnesota who said he was “scared” of the prospect of an Obama presidency and of who the Democrat would appoint to the Supreme Court.
    _-
“Come on, John!” one audience member yelled out as the Republican crowd expressed dismay at their nominee. Others yelled “liar,” and “terrorist,” referring to Obama.
    __
McCain passed his wireless microphone to one woman who said, “I can’t trust Obama. I have read about him and he’s not, he’s not uh — he’s an Arab. He’s not — ” before McCain retook the microphone and replied:
    __
“No, ma’am. He’s a decent family man [and] citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that’s what this campaign’s all about. He’s not [an Arab].”

Well, I called Gov. Wanker Walker a pig eyed idiot in a previous thread here tonight, so both sides do it. But I denounce Stalin, as well as the broccoli mandate, so perhaps that can get some slack cut for me.

I mean, WTF? Can you even imagine the RW freak out if someone had asked John Blow (D-Lower Liberalia) “who’s gonna shoot Bush?” and Rep. Blow had done anything other than shout the questioner into submission about how “we are a principled and civilized democracy and we pull levers, not guns, against those with whom we disagree”, and then had security detain said questioner for Secret Service questioning? It would be fucking all news all the time if Rep. Blow had simply said “I know there’s a lot of frustration wit this president but we’re gonna have an election next year and maybe we’ll do better.” That’s assuming Rep Blow didn’t also get perp walked on a charge of accessory to threat of assassination. Yet, it’s fine to brush off a question about shooting the Islamokenyansoshulafascist who is the POTUS?

I’m renouncing my citizenship along with Stalin and broccoli if this isn’t widely reported. Braun’s behavior is a shandah.

@MikeJ: That’s horseshit, and an insult to the fine men and women of the Secret Service.

Let’s not forget that Obama got Secret Service protection way early in the campaign because they insisted, and that they leaked the 400% percent increase in threats once he was elected.

These are people who take an oath agreeing to take a bullet for the duly elected POTUS, whoever he/she is. They take their job seriously.

They don’t protect a person, they protect our democracy.

I don’t know how old you are, but assassination is horrible, and as much as I loathed George W. Bush, I would have taken a bullet for him myself in order to protect our government.

I’m confident that the Secret Service will find this clownhole and make him eat his words with a bitter, bitter sauce of regret.

Honestly, we have people who’d say ‘Who’s going to shoot Bush?’ and probably mean it.

What we don’t have is a room full of people at the town hall who’d laugh and then the elected Representative would smile and nod and let it slide.

If somehow this happened, the rest of the Democratic party would go ‘Dude, UNCOOL.’

They have their crazies. We have our crazies. They encourage and mainstream theirs. That is the gigantic honking difference.

    2 things:
Anyone remember the guy in South Dakota that got 5 years in prison for making a joke about a ‘burning bush’ early in Boy Blunders disaster?

Am I the only person surprised that there has not been an attempt on the life of this President? One of my greatest fears on election night was that the loonies would want to earn the biggest spider web tattoo of all times. I feared for Obama and his family to say nothing of the turmoil it would cause in the country. Several people went gunning for Clinton so I really expected worse & it has not materialized.
