Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

The revolution will be supervised.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Please don’t feed the bears.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

I really should read my own blog.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

The frogs are rarely mistaken.

The arc of the moral universe doesn’t bend itself. it’s up to us.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

I’m working hard in the garden. Fruit trees that I planted in January are in bloom, putting in tomatoes this weekend, thinking about green beans too. Can’t believe spring is here.

@stuckinred: Depending where you live, that can be a great time of year for an outdoor wedding.

@Suffern ACE: Paris! I really love Paris. Business trip or for fun?

The temps aren’t going to crack 20 this weekend. I guess I’ll stay inside and watch Gaddafi get executed by an angry mob.

That cartoon would be a lot more amusing but for the fact that way too many working Americans voted for these sociopathic human/swine hybrids.

    @Violet:

    Can’t believe spring is here.

    It ain’t.

This weekend I’ll have to dig out from the blizzard that hit in the early morning hours.

Wind blew the door open at 5:45 a.m.. The noise woke me up [with a whoomp!] and I got up to see if the furnace had blown up and if the house was on fire. No. Front door open, snow blowing in. Four cats sitting just outside of the snowfall saying, “Wow. Look at that!” Got door closed with a chair in front of it in case a big wind came by again. Then I counted noses and Tulip, the dog was missing. I went outside to open the gate to the back yard so she could get to her usual entry port. Had to wade through snow up to here to get to the gate, had to dig the gate out in order to open it. By that time, of course, I was wide awake.

Tulip was brought home by a nice fellow from the animal control department. Apparently, somebody knew her and where she lived. He was a nice fellow. She was out there in the storm for five hours. I don’t know what kind of protection she found. Her ears were cold for two hours after we got her inside and the top of her head didn’t dry for another hour. Cold baby.

    Spring? Bah, humbug!

[Although a garden does sound cheerful.:-)]

I just waded through a few pages of comments @ HuffPo onthis topic. I don’t recommend it as a hobby. “WAAH!!! They make more than I do. I’m a taxpayer. Fire ’em all and hire someone else for as much money as I’m willing to pay. Teachers and cops don’t do nothin. How dare you play omn our emotions by showing upa picture of EMTs. Everybody knows gubmint workers don’t do shit.” Did I do good enuf, massuh? Don’t beat me no more, massuh.

Today is my John’s 64th birthday. Not doing anything big tonight, just dinner (probably at the local Applebee’s, maybe Bobo will be there!) and some drinks at the VFW with his friends. Tomorrow I will making my famous shrimp and crab boil (baby red potatoes, pearl onions, corn, lemons, crab, and shrimp…yum!) and I have two bottles of Riesling and a bottle of Proseco for imbibing.

In other news, I have put my notice in with my landlord. I’m out as of May 1.

30 km run, then taking the toddler to someone’s (mercifully short) birthday party, then having a Skype summit with my brother, who needs to vent about his long-term girlfriend. I’m trying to come up with a polite way to say “just pack your shit and get out of there, already.”

I’m on deadline and stressing out, so its been fast and easy food all day: that is, fried colcannon and a couple of eggs on top. Four times today so far. I’ve been eating some bananas to balance out the forces, but odds are my body cannae take the strain.

If the house explodes, I’m not sure whether my homeowner insurance will cover the damages. Pray for me.

@Maude: It’s definitely the relationship and not the woman. She’s smart and driven and cute, and so is he, but they just don’t click anymore. They haven’t, for years. I love the guy to bits and I hate to see him lingering, because he’s afraid of hurting her. They’re both miserable and bored and just need to move on.
