Since this is a pet-oriented open thread, I’ll solicit some pet advice. We are on the brink of getting this new puppeh, but we have just found out that it is a she and not a he. The owners found out that her ‘boy bits’ were actually a prolapsed umbilicus. The problem with this that our current Alpha bitch, Turnip, adores boys and often does not get along with girls. She’s had fights with males and females, but she pretty much automatically reactive to a new female. She’s had a few girlfriends, but her best buds are always males and she’s a big flirt. So having a sister is much less appealing than having a brother. Any experiences here? The puppy aspect is the X factor–no way of knowing this puppy’s personality yet.

Always nice to hear some good news for a change. John, could you keep us updated on Lady’s condition? From the way (in the picture) it looked like the growth was hanging away from her body, I’m hoping the surgery won’t be too complicated.
