Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

Consistently wrong since 2002

An almost top 10,000 blog!

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

This blog will pay for itself.

This fight is for everything.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Recalls in Wisconsin

Scott Walker won’t be eligible for recall til 2012 but there are 8 Republican State Senators who can be recalled this year and two of them won narrowly the last time they stood for election. Democrats need three seats to take the state Senate but successfully recalling even one of these clowns would be a major victory.

The Wisconsin State Democratic party has a website where you can volunteer or donate to the effort and there’s an ActBlue page for donations as well.

Something I’ve been wondering about: If Walker eventually gets his bill passed, can it be reversed by a simple majority? And can they undo that nitwit ‘super-majority’ bill on taxes by simple majority?

The Good Book says that servants should be obedient and humble and should accept in good conscience what their master chooses to give them in return for the sweat of their brow.

So-called collective bargaining simply destroys the proper relationship between the master (who is appointed by God) and those who are bound to do his bidding, and leads all into sin.

And can they undo that nitwit ‘super-majority’ bill on taxes by simple majority?

I’ve never heard of any system where a decision enacted by a simple majority can’t be redacted by another simple majority of the same body. There are cross-body issues (a simple, simple in more ways than one, majority of California voters passed Proposition 13, so the legislature needs a 2/3 majority to increase any tax), but those wouldn’t be relevant here. On the other hand, obstruction is always easier than action, especially on an issue as easy to demagogue as taxes.

And can I just say that “Sarah, Proud And Tall” isn’t over-the-top enough to be very funny, but is not nearly subtle enough to be a convincing spoof, sort of an Uncanny Valley of comment trolling.

My little sister is in Robert Cowles’ district. I just called and let her know she should sign the recall petition. She’s got a 5yo kid so she’s absolutely livid about what Walker/republicans are doing to school budgets.

edit: along with being livid, she’s scared to death about what’s going to happen in the next few years.

The Missouri General Assembly is afraid, very afraid:

SJR 22/HJR 33: “Yes, but how does it know?”

This proposed constitutional amendment, if approved by the voters, would require a member of the General Assembly to vacate his or her office if the member removes himself or herself from the state during a session of the member’s respective body for the purpose of avoiding any official duty or vote.

Actually winning any of the seats would be great, but the process will take up to six months. A credible threat (that is, a well-funded and visible one) could have much more immediate impact by getting some of these jokers to cast a self-preserving No vote.

Good point, but I think only 5 of them qualify for the recall (there is that one year grace period). And the way things are going in Wisconsin, I’m not sure the Republicans will be able to get enough signatures to… oh right, they can cheat. Right. Hoo boy.

I went to Uncanny Valley once in primary school on a religious retreat. It didn’t end well. Sister Maria Luigi warned everyone about going down to the pool, but Sarah Powell didn’t listen to her, and Father McKinney got her.

I don’t hold with anything that’s not in the Pentateuch, so I will ignore that one.

The first Deuteronomy is about cows, and if you don’t know the difference between cows and people I don’t hold out much hope for you.

The second Deuteronomy talks about a servant who is “poor and needy” and no one would describe a teacher who works ten weeks a year and gets paid $150,000 a year as that.

Leviticus just says that if you are going to pay your servant his wages it has to be paid promptly, not that you are not allowed to pay them scale, or in food, for example.

You think elected officials who go to work and propose and vote on bills they think are good deserve to be recalled over those who don’t like the bills proposed and flee the state and refuse to go back to work? – kind of an adult version of “gimme my ball, I’m going home.”

Trolling is so much fun! Can I use that as a verb, or is it a noun? Or both?

I’m with the R’s on this one, even though I’m not an R. I hate unions, teachers, the elderly, children, workers of the world (whether they unite or not), hospitals, day care centers, muslims…hmm, did I miss anything? I hope they tear down the whole system and just wreck the country. It won’t accomplish anything productive…obviously…but it’s just so much fun to ruin the country for no reason!

Or so you juicetards think. Maybe they just have a different idea of how to right this sinking ship, and maybe they’ve decided it’s time to stop the bleeding that was caused by the progressives that you juicetards support with blind ignorance and useful idiocy loyalty to the Party.
