Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

White supremacy is terrorism.

DeSantis transforms Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Spilling the end game before they can coat it in frankl luntz-approved dogwhistles.

A consequence of cucumbers

Second rate reporter says what?

The words do not have to be perfect.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

In my day, never was longer.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Tick tock motherfuckers!

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Just want to get it out here, but it’s BS that ABL pulls her post because she doesn’t like some of the comments. Then, she reposts (see below), locks out from posting comments here on BJ and redircts to her block for commenting? why? I can only suppose so she can nuke anything she doesn’t like that is said in reply.

I make no secret I’m unhappy with Obama. i think it is BS we are still pissing away billions a month in Afghanistan. I find it hypocritical to the extreme that next to jack shit has been said by the Obama administration about the Bahranian rulers shooting the protesters. Yet we go blowing the fuck up out of Libya.

I don’t buy the atrocity angle from the Obots. It’s contortionist apologetics (par for the course from that hypocritical crew). The US wouldn’t give two shits about what was happening there if it were not for the oil. This is something that ABL obliquely admits in her post. All historical arguments aside, that is the issue—the US has turned a blind eye to atrocities because of oil forever a long time now..we are doing it today with the Bahranian regime and the Saudis as well. We’ll keep on doing it until it is inconvenient to do so which may be the day after the oil runs out.

    It’s 70 out and breezy

    Lucky bastard.

It’s about 35-40 out and drizzling, with the occasional gust of wind for me :-(

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to comment on something a few posters brought up on a thread awhile back regarding the neo-con reaction to Obama’s multilateral handling of Libya.

The posters said, it seems the neo-cons are trying to rehabilitate Bush, Jr.’s legacy and image.

I’m not surprised by this. They will be trying to blow sunshine up the public image of Bush, Jr. for as long as they have breath.

This is the same crew of people, who pretty successfully got the stink of Watergate off Richard Nixon, by the mid-1990’s, so when people thought about Nixon, are large portion no longer think “crook”. They thought, “hey, he’s the guy who opened relations with China,” and whatever other accomplishments Nixon supporters wanted to affix to him in the public image.

I won’t be surprised, if there’s the same sort of P.R. campaign for Bush, Jr.’s legacy and image over the next couple of decades.

Also, too truthiness should be a word. It succinctly describes and explains the world view held by many Americans.

    March 23, 2011 at 4:30 pm

@WyldPirate: I disagree with you almost 100% on this. I think Khadaffi made it crystal clear he was going into Benghazi with his mercenary army to massacre a city. The UN exists to prevent just that scenario. Add in the active resistance force that ASKED for UN help and it is different than what it going on in Bahrain. I personally wish we would do something to help them.

I think the US would care regardless of the oil precisely because it is Obama and not Bush/McCain. It’s a country with a bad history, near countries with the infrastructure to carry off this kind of operation. And it was the right thing to do.

But all this is a really long way of getting to the point, which is ABL should have left comments open. If you post here, you should be willing to take your lumps and/or laurels here as well.

Meanwhile, I have been having fun getting phone calls from parents of incoming freshmen (first student aid award notifications went out today) and listening to them trash Gov. Mbleh.

It’s quite amazing, how with columns and remembrances of the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, that folks are using the time and the opportunity to tell us just how awful and soshulistic and ANti-American any and all business regulations are, and how anyone who wants to learn from the Fire is either Stuck In The Past or some kind of unionite thug who wants to DESTROY AMERICA FOR ALL TIME.

And I look around, and I see that most of these trolls tend to be the only fucking people anyone in the government fucking listens to anymore, and I realize just how utterly fucking fucked we truly are now. At this point in history, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Congress pass a bill commemorating the anniversary by eliminating all federal workplace safety requirements considering fires. Yeah, if life were that fucking nutso, I know at least Obama would still veto it, but that’s small consolation compared to the total utter wingnuttification of the country wholesale.

Look, lay off ABL. Sometimes, when you spend a good bit of time writing something, and rather than pay any attention to what you were trying to say, a bunch of jackasses chime in with shit THEY’VE ALREADY SAID 5000 other times in other threads, and then spend the rest of the time throwing shit bombs about minor mistakes, it gets old.

And Cornerstone, your sole reason for being in the comments here is to be a dick to people. It surprises you that some people may react differently to that? I just ignore you or insult you back, but not every one is the same.

And no, this will not become a recurring theme, but I asked her to put the post back up because I thought it was interesting. I told her to do no comments if she wanted, but I didn’t know she’d fire it back to her place and allow some comments, but honestly, I don’t care about that, either.

Not to mention, as we all know, not having comments on that thread is kind of immaterial anyway, because it doesn’t matter what we write about, you all are going to talk about whatever topic you want to, regardless whether it has anything to do with the post at hand.

ABL is just terrible. I’ve avoided her screeching for a long while now, but was intrigued to see “No Comments” on that last one- for a moment I thought people were boycotting out of being tired of headaches from being yelled at. Oh, she closed comments and just directed traffic to her own site. Classy. (Like her taking Shark-Fu’s schtick as her own with way less finesse and no credit. Whatever. )

Nice of you to give her the space and traffic to her site for free, JC. Let her shut down comments here. Lord knows she’s such an engaged member of the BJ community, listening and thoughtfully commenting in other FPer’s posts. Bwahaha. What a selfish move of hers, what a stunt, sorry.

@Fuck U6: A More Accurate Measure of the Total Amount of Duck-Fuckery in the Economy: Come on! You know that’s just a typo. I’m sure she knows it was 1939 (and that’s just when war started, 1933 was official start of Nazi regime). She made a typo. We all do and would make more if we wrote as much stuff as ABL does.

@Arundel: You can comment on her article to your heart’s content by just clicking a few more clicks. Do it, you probably need the exercise.

Plus, you are full of shit when it comes to ABL & her worth to this blog.
