Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Ron DeSantis, the grand wizard, oops, governor of FL.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Fight them, without becoming them!

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

“woke” is the new caravan.

Democrats have delivered the Square Deal, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, and now… the Big Joe Biden Deal.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself. We’re allowed to grow past that.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Putin dreamed of ending NATO, and now it’s Finnish-ed.

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

There’s always a light at the end of the frog.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Have no idea why I looked at the NYTimes wedding section this morning, which is usually filled with odious overachievers in places I could never afford, but this story is pretty heartwarming. I’m glad they chose to write about it.

Mr. Mix, what were you thinking when you inflicted that awful video on us. It’s bad guitar playing, bad voice, and a bad song. Now I have to go wash my ears out.

@Gin & Tonic: Either that’s a bad link or the paywall is being a problem, because when I click that link it goes to a blank white page.

Edit: after posting this I tried a 4th time, and suddenly the link came up. This happened to a few other people last night, but with links that I was able to open just fine. I wonder if those links were also to the NYT.

@WaterGirl: Odd, because the URL in nancydarling’s post is identical to that in mine. And the paywall starts tomorrow anyway. Glad you got it to work.

Here is some musical sorbet to cleanse your eardrums after mistermix’s odd choice.

Yeah, it’s my little girl again. She started studying guitar three and a half years ago, but has been singing since before she could walk. Enjoy!

Hello from the stage of Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Another interminable Carmina rehearsal.

Black Francis! LOVE! (Of course, I’m from Canada, where Leonard Cohen won best male vocalist at the Junos in 1993, so YMMV.)

Paywall has started for Canucks: I’ve used up 19 of 20 freebies so far, but the wedding story was worth it.

And for those keeping track: yes, I took my Vitamin D today.

@David Brooks (not that one): FWIW I’d rather be doing what you’re doing than laying in my bed in Northgate waiting until it’s safe to get the pain med blood levels back up.

Black Francis, lead singer of one of the most influential rock bands, The Pixies. Great (don’t let the haters tell you otherwise).

Great choice for music. Frank Black was my hero in college. One of my best memories ever is helping him carry in his equipment before one of his shows.

Black Francis always gets a [this is good].

This is reminiscent of the acoustic version of “Jumpin’ Beans” he did with the old REV 105 station in Minneapolis 16/17 years ago
