Wow, how did you get that snapshot off? That’s professional quality there.

Awesome shot. I have no hope replicating it as 1. my dog is very cameraphobic and b. her attention span as regards ball fetching can be measured in fractions of a second. (Grumble.)
An innumerate scientist? Lemme guess, you’re a biologist, right?

Just had a nice cheerleader session where we were reminded that we are, indeed, Evil Public School Servants in Michigan, and that we better learn to enjoy the delicious cake we are going to be allowed to eat. I’m all cheered up.
At least I’m in one of the best situations you’ll find in MI, but that may end up getting to have the tastiest turd. Fun times Running with the Ruling Elephants.
The one with Willow Palin? (I can’t keep up with the various Bronte flicks and didn’t know there was another.)

That is just an incredible picture. Did you throw the ball and then take the picture, or did you have help? I want to know so I will be able to decide how much to hate you.

Down to only one open thread left before Word Press explodes. Use it wisely
(EDIT: add me to those impressed by the picture. No chance I could ever duplicate that with Ellie)
Being mostly innumerate myself, I do my part by compounding the shame.
What you did there? I saw it.
And that’s a gorgeous shot. Coming soon: many shots of a Dobie against green grass and blue sky!
And apropos, at least in my part of the country: this.

Our dog has become way too interested in coffee. You sit down with a cup and he stares holes through you until you give him the last drops in the bottom of the cup. He will dig styro coffee cups out of the trash and tear them up for the dried dregs.

I think I’ve finally found the perfect wristwatch. This quest has been going on for 25 years. I regulated and set this one on 4/12 and on 4/22 864,000 seconds later it’s still on the same second. This would be interesting but unremarkable in a quartz watch but this is mechanical. The movement design dates back to the ’70s.
It keeps better time than my computer and cell phone, and better than any quartz clock in the house.
@Paul W.: @Josie: I threw the ball almost straight down using a Chuckit in my left hand. At the same time I prefocused where I thought that Max would jump and then composed the shot one-handed with focus lock while guessing the right moment to fire the shutter. It is easier than it sounds. The most important trick is to do it a dozen times and only show the good shot.
@freelancer: Howdja guess. I am not completely innumerate, but I lack the patience of Doug or Tom when it comes to number play in my spare time.
Wow. That question is a classic in the annals of disingenuity. Ryan’s proposal has nothing to do with deficit reduction, and everything to do with inflicting pain on those who are powerless to defend themselves. And Weigel apparently can’t see that, which is surprising.

@Tim F.: Showoff! Kidding aside great shot of a great dog, well done. What camera did you use?
Got Portal 2 in the mail last night. I know what I’m doing this dark and dreary weekend.
Found this guy doing walkthroughs when I was playing through Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. He can be annoying, but damn, this kid is funny.
Then there’s this “lifecaster”, IJustine. Watching her play the intro chambers to portal 2 is like watching the Dawn of Man sequence from 2001, the proto-human discovering tools. Seriously, try to watch this all the way through without screaming at your computer screen.
@jeffreyw: Great; I just ate and now I’m hungry again.
Tip: put a diffuser on your flash to soften the hard edges on your highlights.

Well this is a surprise: Jim Larranaga, who coached the George Mason men’s basketball team for 11 seasons, including its amazing Final Four run in 2006, is leaving to become the head coach at the University of Miami. Hard to figure, unless the dollars are mind-blowing. Miami is arguably the worst coaching situation in the ACC (the only reason I didn’t say “the worst coaching situation in any BCS conference” is the continued existence of Auburn).
i love the shots of this dog; he just looks like he could play allllllll day long … but, man, oh man, am i ever glad i don’t have to keep up with him… ;-)

Seems like every physics lecture I’ve seen, there’s always a joke about the innumeracy of biologists. See here for just one example. And I don’t blame you btw. I’m just a simple country layman for whom statistics and probabilities was easy, but ran full speed into an intellectual brick wall when it came to calculus and any other higher order of mathematics.

Weigel sort of addresses that, but the problem is it implies that when asked to privatized Medicare, people are ok with that. That gives the GOP a leg up in a rhetorical argument.

Apologies, but it’s literally the first sequence. And the players are talking over the exposition anyways.

@freelancer: No, no, I meant no spoilers from you as you play through. Don’t care about the opening walkthrough. (And I watched the vid – she’s clueless).
@Tim F.: Lol, there is a diffuser on both remote flashes. The highlight on the mushroom is due to the remote being too close, within inches of the dish. I tweaked the highlights up in post processing, and the saturation down a bit. I think I like them over saturated better, at least the food shots. Thus the title.
