Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

The willow is too close to the house.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

A dilettante blog from the great progressive state of West Virginia.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

This fight is for everything.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

I really should read my own blog.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

What’s the point of the draft? There’s no training camp, there’s likely no season.

Yet ESPN insists on promoting this ‘event” like crazy. Whistling past the graveyard, I calls it.

More than one way to skin a Citizens United wingnut

Will Obama Throw a Grenade to Blow-Up Hidden Campaign Donations?

Frustrated by limited, near-term legislative or regulatory options to increase disclosure of hidden federal election expenditures, President Obama is considering an executive order aimed at government contractors which would partially achieve that goal. If issued, this order will cause a political uproar–and stimulate immediate litigation to stay its effect.

The president is responding to the 2010 political cycle, when groups allegedly independent of candidate campaigns spent $300 billion in attempts to influence the outcome of federal elections. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, almost 50 percent of that total was spent by organizations which did not disclose their donors, up from 25 percent spent by entities with no disclosure in 2008.

Seattle drafting Locker was my nightmare scenario. The guy will be holding a clipboard for the next 10yrs.

Not on the Titans he won’t. And probably not if he had fallen to the Seahawks either, unless you think Jesus Whitehurst is the Saviour.

For those outside the greater Puget Sound area, Locker is similar to Newton in that he has both huge upside and huge question marks. I wasn’t looking for the Seahawks to draft him out of some misplaced hometown loyalty but neither would I have been disappointed had it happened.

Ponder just went to the Vikings. Here’s hoping the Seahawks don’t splurge on the sixth best QB in an overrated QB class.

Newton won the national championship. Locker got UW to…a winning record, and it took him all 4yrs to do it. For four years all we heard was how he was the second coming, and he did next to nothing.

He has no touch – NONE. I can’t wait until that guy throws it into the flat the first time so I can see the Pick-6. Of course, everyone in Seattle will blame the running back.

The whole reason people here would need an explanation of Jake Locker is because the don’t know who he is. And why is that? Because he hasn’t done shit.

@Comrade Luke: Dittoing Shoemaker-Levy. Saying Locker has no touch is an exaggeration; he has a wildly inconsistent touch. When all the cylinders are firing, he’s brilliant. When he falls apart, he really falls apart. It will be interesting to see how well he does in Tennessee, assuming he ever gets to play.

And blaming him for the Huskies’ recent woes.. ha. Every aspect of the team sucked, from the coaches all the way down, not just the quarterbacking.
