Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Well, thank the FSM that you have Max to comfort you.

Fuck. I can’t believe you’re watching when you already know how bad the outcome is. Is it kinda like a car accident or train wreck for you?

And, in case you missed me saying it the hundred times I have, Max is just the most awesome doggie. Love, love, love him.

Poor Max! Now that the Pens are done, all he has left are the Pirates.

I don’t think even Max can get excited about the draft, although Heyward was a good start.

Have never been able to really appreciate hockey. I watch a game & someone get slammed into the boards & I think ‘that’s got to be a foul’ & they play on, then someone tries to neuter a player with their stick & I think ‘that’s got to be a foul’ & they play on. I also don’t understand the substitution rules, seems like at times there are too many people on the ice (when they change shifts). I also think the rink is too small. Would like them to use Olympic size rink. (end hockey rant).

I’m sure that is part of the appeal for a hockey fan.

i’m sure max is resigning this season’s overall failure to the injuries to malkin and crosby, and that they only played two games with them and jordan staal in the line up at the same time. that does not look like the face of a dog who is unfairly blaming shero or bylsma, when the team played valiantly, if undergunned.

though i wouldn’t blame max if he thinks even ahl’ers shold be able to do better with the power play chances the pens had throughout the series with tampa bay.

i’m sorry Tim, but THAT dawg looks blackety, blackety black to me. Has he got a long form birth certificate to prove that he’s a legal resident of these United States of ‘Merika? What kind of special strings were pulled to get him into the Harvard School of Canine Bidness? Where’s his transcripts?

    1. Those are MAX’s Chuckit! balls, not yours, so they are his to lose if he wants.
    2. Teasing someone about hockey within a week of a crushing loss is more cruel than many things prohibited by the 8th Amendment.

I don’t know if this was brought up in another thread, but Donald didn’t always have a great relationship with the blacks. He was sued for racial discrimination by the Feds in the 70’s. Here’s an interesting nugget:

The journalist Gwenda Blair reported in her 2005 Trump biography that while Fred Trump had sought to combat previous discrimination allegations through “quiet diplomacy,” Donald decided to go on the offensive. He hired his friend Roy Cohn, the celebrity lawyer and former Joseph McCarthy aide, to countersue the government for making baseless charges against the company. They sought a staggering $100 million in damages.

The judge threw it out, calling it a waste of “time and paper.”

@West of the Cascades: I’m not teasing anyone. I’m from Pittsburgh and Max really was acting like captain grumpy near the end of that game. He probably picked up some of the negative vibes that Dr. Mrs. Dr. F and I were shouting at the TV.

Which, to me, is indicative that the Pens had other problems besides their two best players being out (which is, of course, a very big problem). A commenter on another blog pointed out that in spite of that, the Pens were still up 3-1 in this series, against a team with some pretty darn good talent. They just couldn’t put it away.

You can find a chuckit or identical competitor that takes plain tennis balls. Thus we spend a small fortune on lost balls instead of a major fortune.

  29. 29.

    Tim F.

    April 29, 2011 at 1:43 pm

@Earl: Any Chuckit will take regular tennis balls. The orange rubber balls are just much, much better. They go farther, bounce better and last forever instead of getting barfed up in pieces at 3 am a day or two after I open the can.
