Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

So fucking stupid, and still doing a tremendous amount of damage.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Giving up is unforgivable.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Second rate reporter says what?

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Gateway Pundit (why do wingers always call their blogs Something Pundit) attacks Obama with some down-home plain talk:

Boorish Obama Attacks Trump Repeatedly at Media Dinner While He Is Sitting in the Room.

(via)

I don’t have the heart or twitter skills to check on this, but is anyone in the Village saying stuff like that? Sally Quinn, maybe?

This is where righties/establishmentarians (to the extent that they are really different groups) are at their worst, when they’re trying to score points with he-used-the-wrong-fork-for-salad type stuff.

Conservatives used to admire John Wayne who would say “Aren’t you man enough to say that to my face?” Now they admire the Rush Limbaughs and St. Sarah of Wasilla who never saying anything bad if their target is within an earshot, but have bowling ball sized testicles when their target can’t defend themselves. They are truly a bunch of cowards.

That headline is priceless. Poor Gateway Pundit evidently isn’t too clear on the concept of the WHCD, or any similar function. And I wouldn’t say they’re at their worst when they do this sort of thing — but then, I’m not above laughing at them when they say “You’re supposed to use your salad fork like this,” and then jam the handle up their noses.

I, for one, I’m enjoying the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. The proper answer to them is: what name should we put in the cup that Obama will make from your skull? Because, I mean, they never had much brains but at least their skulls will be useful.

Funny, I’ve heard exactly the opposite – that maybe the WaPo should be forgiven for inviting Trump, because in doing so they teed him up for mockery in a way that would have been less appropriate had he not been present. After all, you can make a lot crueler jokes to someone’s face than you can if they’re not present, at least if you have any self respect.

Not that I’d encourage forgiving the WaPo anything …

Also, what Cat Lady said. The only question is the words, never the tune. As she says, had Trump been abused in his absence, that sad tale would have been a major faux pas, to hear the wingers tell it. Had Obama not made any birther jokes, they’d have denounced him for being afraid of the topic.

ETA PS I see that as I made my comment, dmsilev made exactly the same logical extension to Cat Lady’s comment that I was writing.

The mind does rather boggle. I’m tempted to say that the stupid version is Erik Son Of Erik Son Of Erik, but that’s quite unfair: it’s quite possible Erik has a son named Erik, whom I’d not care to insult, and I know nothing about Erik’s dad’s intelligence – his blithering idiocy could be a total and incomprehensible fluke.

Still, troubling though the concept is, there surely must be a possible Stupider Erik, just as Peak Wingnut Is A Lie. It’s like the famous quote “Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite ’em,: And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum.”, only with regard to intelligence, and in reverse.

Newsbusters is pissed off that Trump got booed:

If we had a truly impartial media, would they boo a political figure regardless of his or her opinions? According to The Wrap, Donald Trump received such Bronx cheers from so-called journalists when he arrived at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner (video follows with commentary). Isn’t it nice to know that folks who will be covering the upcoming presidential race have no qualms about publicly expressing their displeasure for one of the possible candidates? Makes you proud to be an American, doesn’t it?

    Surber in deep denial

Obama’s snark may have given Donald Trump the high road. The public understands that public officials should be able to take a joke. The public also expects presidents to use self-effacing humor and not act like a sarcastic adolescent. The public also begins to see the pattern. First Sarah Palin, now Donald Trump. Hmm.

What is truly sad is that a politician that confronts his critics has become as admirable as a home run champion who doesn’t use steroids. It should be the norm, not the exception. Hell, even Richard Freaking Nixon wasn’t afraid to confront his critics one on one.

“Hmm,” indeed, Don. Remind us how Palin & Trump have been doing in recent polling?

A new Economist/YouGov poll finds President Obama well ahead of Mitt Romney in a possible 2012 general election match up, 46% to 37%.
For what it’s worth, Obama also crushes Donald Trump, 49% to 32%, and trounces Sarah Palin, 52% to 34%.

Byron York outdoes Jim Hoft in terms of sheer douchebaggery:

“Obama’s angry comedy routine: President jabs enemies, mocks symbols of patriotism”

Self-deprecation has long been a hallmark of presidential appearances at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Whether riding high or struggling in the polls, a president’s surest way to score points with the press and the Washington political establishment is to make fun of himself. While he’s also expected to get in a few digs at his opponents, over the years the theme of the dinner has usually focused on a president who’s big enough to make jokes at his own expense.

In his remarks to the correspondents association dinner Saturday night, Barack Obama came up with a new formula: Cut the self-deprecation to a minimum and unleash a series of attacks on his adversaries — and start the performance in a way that seems to mock not just his enemies but the very idea of what it means to be an American.

And to echo everyone else, there’s nothing Obama could have done that wouldn’t earn the disapproval of the Villagers and wingnuts. There’s nothing they can’t twist to fit their demented worldview.

If Trump hadn’t been there, Obama would have been faulted for taking cheap shots at him behind his back.
