Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

He really is that stupid.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Sunday Night Open Thread

This post is in: Open Threads, Looks Like I Picked the Wrong Week to Stop Sniffing Glue

Medical update: I am still in the hospital, but the Spousal Unit smuggled me a laptop. Unfortunately, I’m not very good at picking out letters left-handed…

Last night, not long after putting up what turned out to be an inflammatory (if thereby illustrative) post, I realized that the week-old, quarter=inch scab on the fleshy part of my hand had become an inch=wide, angry, crusted, red-white-&-blue pustule — like my own tiny teabagger rally. (I thought about naming it after a BJ troll, but that would be… inflammatory.) Try never to go to the ER on a Saturday night; best I can say about 3 hours at intake & 6 on a gurney is that ‘we’ had just enough time for the 2 preliminary antibiotic infusions before the morning shift orthopedic surgeons showed up. General anesthesia ensued, so all I can do is take the lead surgeon’s word that it took 3 litres of saline and ‘a whole lot’ of gauze packing before they felt satisfied enough to put on the plaster splint.

Theory is that tomorrow morning, they’ll unwrap their work (local anesthetic only, please goddess), take out the packing, put in some more stitches & send me home with oral antibiotics. I’m not in much pain, just annoyance –the hospital bed is killing my back, I can’t sleep, my throat hurts, the 2 infusion ports on my left arm sting like mofos, and it’s taken me over an hour to peck this out. Also, my personal stalker will never stop taking credit for ‘driving me away’ from responding to comments last night. WINNING!

Incidentally, the original puncture wound happened accidentally when our idiot little petshop rescue Stanley decided he had to play Hall Monitor. Friendly fire-fanging. Why Hall Monitors are Teh Suxx.

Hope y’all had a better Beltane / May Day, and that your cattle & crops prosper in the new season!

Be well, Annie. As I was reading through this, I thought, sounds like a cat scratch. (I don’t know if Stanley is canine or feline.

As to the big news…will Trump demand Bid Laden’s birth certificate for proof?

Get well soon. Also, too, stop teasing and tell us the name that popped into your head.

Miss Laurie, I’m extremely sorry about your hand and hope you have a complete recovery and a scarfree hand.

Having said that – will you please stop digging? You were wrong, you’ve hurt the feelings of good people and outraged the sensibilities of those who would normally be your natural allies. Please. It’s embarrassing and hurtful to see you engaging in this sniping.

Hope you are released from hospital quickly, and that the sourness of this and your previous post resulted from the infection, not innate meanness. I believe you’re a good person too. I hate to see good people show arse.

Hopefully you have good news ahead on your healing.

Since this is an open thread (even though it’ll be buried in the ObL news); Michelle Bachmann likens excessive taxation to be an evil on par with the Holocaust. No, seriously, the stupid fucking waste of skin actually made that argument. My mind is officially fucking blown.

Suck on that, Republicans. Suck on that and tell me how it tastes, you fuckers.

Hang in there. When I stumbled in to the ER on the first nice Saturday of spring a few years ago, they kept me until late Tuesday morning. Most of that time, on the same gurney in a hallway, in a pool of dried blood. At least it was my own blood. I had a collapsed 1.3 lungs, so it was truly an emergent situation, but the only help I got was a 5cm incision and a tube insertion…the first day.

Don’t give up and walk out–I tried that, and they got stroppy with me. Also my wife refused to drive me home.

Didn’t get into the comments due to family stuff but I thought that post really showed a lot of the patterns we ought to begin correcting by talking about.

Get well soon, Annie. My teen son had MRSA a few years back, and had excellent medical care from his pediatricians and surgeon. He was a healthy, athletic young man and remains so.

Just shows to go that things which look like they need minor attention can turn into real danger to one’s health. Doing all the “correct” stuff to keep yourself healthy does not mean you’ll never need hospitalization.

This is why every American needs to have access to good, affordable health care.

I’ve been nipped or scratched by my own cat on a regular basis since she moved in six years sgo — she’s not shy about letting me know when she’s ticked off about something I did or didn’t do. She’s drawn blood (but only a little) plenty of times. Never had a wound from her that got infected, though. Cats usually know not to go for maximum injury when they’re just trying to communicate displeasure with a human. I’d assume the same is true for a dog. Is Stanley’s problem youth or a deficiency of good sense?

Not having a dog in this fight, I did read the back and forth on that post and have come to the conclusion that it’s time to “let it go”. Please. You beat your point to death two days ago.

Otherwise, speedy recovery, Anne Laurie. Never neglect an animal bite or scratch people–humans included. They get really yucky.

I got a cat bite some years ago that required IV antibiotics. I cleaned it out as best I could when it happened, 2 days later I went to the ER because it was starting to swell and hurt.

Basically, if you get a cat bite with a deep puncture, see a doctor. See the doctor. A deep puncture from a cat bite will almost certainly get infected and need antibiotics.

Dogs that are taken from the litter too young don’t learn bite inhibition. In a normal puppyhood, their littermates let them know when the play bites go too far. Of course you never know for sure how a rescue picked up bad habits.

    I’m sure Stanley is sorry.

    Get well soon

Oh feel better. Please. I scoffed when my vet told me to go the ER after my kitteh bit me as I was carrying her past a barking rottie in a yard, on the way to vets to board for when movers came next day. I relented and the first thing the ER doc asked was “what did you do to upset the kitteh?” The second thing was “do you have a preference in hand surgeons?” So I feel for you. Thankfully then I had insurance. Trying to fund a cranial MRI w/o it now sucks.

Feel better. The solstice will be brighter.
