Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

We will not go back.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

In after Baud. Damn.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

Grrr. So tired of right wing bullshit. MN Catholic Bishops came out and made some noise in support of the anti-ssm amendment in Minnesota.

What I don’t understand is that 1) There’s evidence THIS Pope urged cover ups of abuse, 2) 2/3 of all US Bishops participated in cover ups 3) The US Catholics have paid over $3bn in settlements and court costs, 4) They consistently fight against extending the statute of limitations on child abuse and finally 5) receive 67% of their Catholic Charities funds from the feds.

How the fuck do these guys have so much power and influence? Why are they not being taken care of by their own people? I know most Catholics are not this, but who’s power are they assuming, if not theirs?

Reverend Wright’s words really resonate today.

Let’s be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An American soldier, who Obama just a few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama just happened to be the one in office when our soldiers finally found UBL and took him out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory.

WRT the election — it’s too damn early to tell. The results are in here in Atlantic Canada, and it’s pretty evenly split so far. As predicted, my riding went blue-blue-blue. The Conservative candidate had more votes than the Libs and NDippers combined, so vote splitting wasn’t really an issue.

O’Donnell is flogging the closing of the CIA’s unit assigned to hunt down OBL as some sort of grand statement about Bush’s inability to be serious about catching him. I like O’Donnell, but I wish he wouldn’t go to that well. The shut down was advertised as a realignment of resources rather than a scaling back of them, as isolating the job to one unit was no longer deemed the optimal model (by people much smarter than GWB, one assumes). Obama may have stressed the importance of this mission more than his predecessor (and that would only be speculation), but I’m not aware he rebooted the unit.

So when does Obama answer for his crimes?

Living in a compound for months, where some person(s) leave twice or thrice weekly to get provisions.
You think that guy trusts a courier known to people in custody? For 3 or 4 years after KSM is in the grasp and control of the US?

Sell Al Zawahiri? I have no idea what you are talking about with this quote. I just stated some basic logic, that is basic logic for everyone, hillbilly or not. And your theory doesn’t make sense in light of that basic logic.

The only persons who would have an interest in the US covering another asset, already know the story about KSM is either true or false. The only other people to “sell” such a cover to is the public, who don’t have a clue of what is going on inside this cat and mouse game. And are non players.

Religious fundamentalism carried to a nihilistic extreme is what created OBL, maroon. OBL got his fee-fees in a bunch because we had troops in a land he considered too holy for our dirty boots, even though we weren’t occupying said country. Don’t make him out to have stood for those oppressed under the heel of American imperialism. He stood for only himself and a god who is too weak to suffer the insult of infidels hanging out in spot X. Everyone else was just a prop, including the around 3,000 souls who perished at his whim on US soil.

And for the record, I’m not happy he got gunned down by our crack special forces because he was brown skinned. Cute strawman, though.

@General Stuck: Let’s play two guesses. The info about a “courier” came years ago from people caught and tortured at gitmo. And somehow after 3-5 years this same person is still hand delivering info to OBL. And further, we put rotating teams on his ass and tracked him for 8 months.
OR, the info had nothing to do with a “courier” and the real HUMINT is being masked.

Chuck was fantastic tonight, and I TOTALLY didn’t expect the Agent X reveal to be who it was. And I’m glad that Ellie is finally in the loop.

I totally didn’t think it was Volkov…who has a mother who loves him and misses him….this is so complex…I still think his daughter is CHuck and Ellie’s sister.

Not all the news over the weekend was good news.

In its 3rd week since its release the popularity and profitability of the movie Atlas Shrugged (Part 1!) continued to wane.

In the previous week Atlas Shrugged (Part 1!) generated an average of $1,895 at 465 theaters.

This weekend Atlas Shrugged (Part 1!) only generated an average of $1,263 at 371 theaters.

The danger to the nation is clear.
At its current declining weekend gross rate of more than 40% it is only a short time before this monumental film portrayal of that novel disappears from our new age Tea Party cultural landscape.

Can we possibly continue as a nation or a culture without Randroidion Tea Partiers celebrating Going Galt for the Invisible Hand Fairy at a theater near you?

How will a man with the name, Dick Armey, continued to be employed if he can’t help translate the political power of Tea Party Nation and a best selling novel into a movie blockbuster?

    @Corner Stone:

I would hope if our CIA was going to “mask” a HUMINT for this action, they would have chosen a better cover story, because like I said, the players in this thing on both sides will know easily whether OBL kept the same courier or not.

I am not saying you are necessarily wrong, only that the theory has some serious holes in it.

@General Stuck: Like what? Some Paki ISI is the source. How would we hide that?
The compound has no external comms. Do you think anyone gets in or out that doesn’t have a fist up his anal canal checking for bombs?
    Someone did not stay bought.
We can play SIGINT games all we want, but this way casts doubt in 360 degree fashion. Up and down the chain. No one in command authority of AQ will trust anyone for some time. And no one aspiring to be the next martyr will look at their captains the same way for a while.
    It’s a complete mindfuck.

ETA, I’d be very surprised if we find confirmation that OBL actually did live in this compound for very long.

Since this thread is still going, I have to put in a plug for The Dave Gorman Collection, which some saint has uploaded to YouTube in six installments (first one here). This was titled Are You Dave Gorman? when I originally saw it on PBS about 10 years ago.

Join the epic quest of one man, Dave Gorman, to find 54 other Dave Gormans while remaining in the “golden cone of Gorman-ness,” 300-500 mpdg (miles per Dave Gorman). Just check out the first episode and see if you want to go on with it. Classic British humor.

Incidentally, the next time Beese shows up claiming Obama has killed more people in one year than Bin Laden ever, he is once again full of shit and making things up.

I don’t support civilian deaths and assume that these figures are under reported, but they still starkly demonstrate that like all More Liberal Than Thou anti Obama memes this one is based on incorrect assumptions and flat out lies.
