Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

So many bastards, so little time.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

The words do not have to be perfect.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Second rate reporter says what?

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

If you are in line to indict donald trump, stay in line.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

We still have time to mess this up!

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Republicans in disarray!

He really is that stupid.

To all my neighbors, you got much flavor

Charles Johnson continues the hazardous duty of reading Pam Geller (h/t commenter JenJen).

According to Pamela “Shrieking Harpy” Geller, President Obama only acted against Osama bin Laden because there was a military coup.

[…..]

Her source for this ridiculous rant? A site called “NewsFlavor,” which features completely unprofessional “articles” written by anonymous Internet non-entities. This article is credited only to “Ulsterman.”

And yes, this is quite a sentence from Geller:

It is the height of hypocrisy and crass opportunism to draw out the release of the death photos so as to prolong the news cycle on the story, and to neglect the tornado-ravaged parts of the country — instead, Obama campaigns at Ground Zero on Thursday for an “O-victory lap,” while it appears that in fact Obama had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the OBL operation.

It seems like only yesterday the New York Times did a fashion spread on Geller.

Not bad, not bad… it lets the wingnuts keep spanking off to the thought of hot man-on-man military action AND reinforces their worldview that Democrats are Weak On Defense(r).

    The cognition, it is dissonant.

Oh the hell with it. If it makes the wingnuts feel better, just tell them this:

At the crucial moment in the Situation Room, Obama wussed out and had to bring in Sarah Palin. Palin, while wearing a General MacArthur cap, was all to happy to make the call to take out OBL on behalf of our lily-livered Kenyan usurper.

It just gives me such enormous pleasure to know that Obama’s very existence has the ability to send so many otherwise sane people around the bend and off the cliff, and he doesn’t even have to have any personal knowledge of or interaction with them for them to self-immolate. It’s quite a trait.

That certainly explains Petraeus to the CIA. And they prolly forced Obama to release his long form birth certificate so grunts would stop going AWOL.

If I never have to hear someone ask “why do we pay attention to” someone who recently was cited as the driving force behind a formerly-constantly-front-paged political movement again, it will be too soon.

ETA: I’m not arguing that Pam Geller is anyone but a lightweight. I’m saying that there’s a portion of this country who looks at her otherwise, and debunking her shit is always going to be valuable. Would it be as valuable as a 3000 word expose on Guantanamo Bay? No. But bandwidth is still nearly free.

The most acute recent moments of compartmentalization for Obama had to have been Friday and Saturday. On Friday he gave the final order and then flew to Alabama to visit with families ravaged by the recent tornado. He ended the day in Florida visiting with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her astronaut husband.

These people are straight up clowns. It is amusing to watch just how untethered from reality they are becoming.

LGF now spends its time going after the religious right, AGW deniers, neo-Confederate racists like Robert Stacy McCain, birthers, neo-Nazi skinheads like the EDL and their alliances with anti-Muslim activists like Pam Gellar and Robert Spencer.

@Martin: Neither does much at all for me. Aside from being married, I no longer drink enough that either would be a possibility. This, of course, leaves out the vanishingly small likelihood that either would chose to spend a night with me anyway. But as long as one is “straying,” why not a Scarlett Johansson or Ann Hathaway? Or even Brody Dalle?

We in the AA community really good at keeping good music going from generation to generation.

That’s a lot tougher in the white community, when there’s so little good music to keep, let’s face it.

@hildebrand: Apparently after Panetta laid out all of the options and gave his opinion on Thursday, Obama said that he wanted to think about things for a bit and then came back ~ 16 hours later and said go for it.

Really, only those mouth-breathers could make a careful thought process before you might be sending a bunch of young men on a potentially fatal mission into a “negative”. I’m sure those SEALS would have been much happier if he just quickly flipped a coin.

I’ve never understood the habit some people have of criticizing something successful because it didn’t happen soon enough for their taste. It’s like Beese’s whine that, sure, DADT was repealed, but it wasn’t repealed when he wanted it to be.

If the mission had failed, sure, do the Monday morning quarterback thing and insist that Obama’s delay led to that failure. But whining about the details of a successful mission just makes you look like a baby.

According to Pamela “Shrieking Harpy” Geller, President Obama only acted against Osama bin Laden because there was a military coup.

I love it: we’re supposed to believe there was a military coup in the works, but that the ONLY objectionable thing going on was that Obama took out Osama to stave it off.

Pardon me, but if there’s a coup of any kind going on, we’ve got bigger problems than Osama. Yes?

CJ did indeed switch sides to a degree, I think it was about 2 years ago. IIRC the anti-science stuff on the right-tard side (AGW denialism, 6000 year old Earth, etc.) was the breaking point for him.

According to him, it was discovering that the so-called “anti-jihadist” movement he was famous for taking part in, was in neck deep with European fascist movements like the BNP, the FN and the BZO.

Which, you know, I could have told him years and years ago, but better late than never.

And to add: I think Charles wrote that what really made him see the light was that when he pointed out (and voiced his objections) to the unsavory neo-Nazi aspects of those European movements, his commentariat turned on him, viciously and started posting all sorts of “traitor”,”jihadist”,”Sharia” shit about him, and he realized (finally!) that he had been cheerleading a gang of unhinged hatemongers for years.
