Russian has some of the most varied and colorful obscene language in the world. And most of it revolves around the organ that you mention. But Menshikov’s blog doesn’t go in for that.
Worst case of the support act upstaging the headliner I have seen was Ladysmith Black Mambazo on Paul Simon’s Graceland tour. What made it worse was that they were both on stage for most of the show, and the optics of tiny guy standing still with guitar vs about a dozen dudes dancing and singing in colorful clothing.

I saw The Clash on their ’82 Combat Rock tour. Joe Strummer was “MIA” for a couple of tour dates prior to the New Orleans gig, so there was uncertainty whether or not it would actually happen. Strummer did surface for the show and the Clash effin rawked!
Genesis was good on the Invisible Touch tour. Makes me feel old. Steve Winwood was good too. He looks really young for his age. He’s got to be in his sixties. Also too, Elvis Costello – I know the guy who was the tour bus driver for him and said he was a jerk. Was kinda disappointed hearing that. Also know somebody who spent some time with Diana Ross on a professional basis and said she was very nice and polite.

ok, fwiw, name-dropping (yet again here; you guys bring out the worst in me, i swear; all your fault), but i dated david robinson for a couple of years a while back. still great pals, a sweet guy. has been excited about the CD but not so much the tour; not his idea. eager to hear how awful the travel and hours and craziness still are, as predicted.
true confessions, tho; loved the police, liked the cars, back in the day. listening to them more while dating david – i admit, felt obliged (a wee ashamed i didn’t know their portfolio better) – found i not only liked them better than i realized, but actually recognized many of the tunes on a more ‘background’ basis. cool songs, but not quite the power grabbers we got from the police. in any case, this cars reunion is a long time coming, as it was talked about some twelve years ago. then ben died, and that was that for a while.
i’m just glad for david there’s good reaction to the new stuff. when he played it for me six months ago, i was pretty impressed, even before it was mixed. nice; enjoy.
ok, fun stuff, but enough. bear in mind i’m fully aware none of you is impressed with this sort of thing, which is likely why it felt ok to share it. ignore at will.
oh wow, the springfield! now there was a band! i still have to play their ‘best of’ album every month or so, just to get my head, er, not straight exactly, and certainly not ‘right’, but somehow ‘corrected’, if you will. do enjoy them for me!
