Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

This really is a full service blog.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

The revolution will be supervised.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

T R E 4 5 O N

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Just fulfilled my duty as a voter in the state of West Virginia, and voted in the primary for Governor. I kind of feel like it is futile, because Earl Ray Tomblin probably has it no matter what, but I went and supported my candidate anyway.

You voted. In a primary. You just did what 90% of your fellow Americans are too lazy to bother with.

You exercised a right that men and women fought and died for. You are to be commended.

Earl Ray Tomblin is one of the coolest Appalachian names I’ve heard in a while. I know nothing about his platform… but his name is awesome.

Wingnuts are swiftboarding Sheriff Dupnik who proved that Palin caused the Tucson shootings.

Get a load of the Chickenhawk butthurt about the police following proper procedure denying treatment to the man they shot until he died, sealing the search warrant and correcting their story multiple times.

The guy that they killed was a criminal just like James O’Keefe and Andrew Breitbart.

I did the same thing John. ERT has got it made… I still voted my conscience.

I make futile gestures too. Doesn’t matter so much that it is futile. It is the standing up and bearing witness. Yup, a lot of good could be done if more just stood up.

Is Michele Bachmann smarter than a HS sophomore?

Amy Myers, a high school sophomore from Cherry Valley, New Jersey, has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging the Minnesota Representative to a debate and public test on the constitution, U.S. history, and civics.

Gonna make Sam Sifton’s duck ragu tomorrow… but gotta get juniper berries fist. Never used them in cooking before, but I guess they’re big with wild game?

I voted too. Very busy at the polling places. Had to stand in a long line to vote.

I’m hoping you guys can help me out. i want to make a beef roast for company tonight, but they didn’t have the cut of meat I wanted, so the meat guy at the grocery store sent me home with a rump roast.

I don’t want to do a crock pot or anything covered.
How do I cook a rump roast in the oven?
At what temperature and for how long?

It’s just over 3 lbs. (3.19) and I would like it to come out on the rare side of medium rare.

    @WaterGirl:
Simply Recipes is pretty trustworthy recipe wise and has a roast beef recipe for rump roast that’s between 3 and 3.5 pounds.

It’s not a horse race, you don’t bet on the person you think is going to win. You vote for the person you think will best represent your interests. Good on you for doing so, John, even if it’s in a “lost cause.”

@J.W. Hamner: Thanks so much! Never would have dreamed of cooking meat at such a low temperature or of putting the meat directly on the oven rack. Living on the edge… :-)

Saw those Bill Maloney adds on YouTube, the one with the gun and the dog-whistle Fight Obama(should have used a blood hound and white sheeted/red shirt guys in the background. I guess if I was a Demo I’d start with Bill Maloney in bed with the Kochs ad. But I guess the Koch Brothers are far over their heads.

Thanks, John – I voted my preference, too, even though Earl Ray probably has a lock on the nomination. He’s just so … so … oily. (And that’s based on a personal meeting, not just the pictures where he’s got a sheen like he’s dipped in baby lotion.)
