Judging by the picture I just assumed masturbation, but then he sings. Soooo earnest.

I went over to the New York Daily News website because I was curious as to whether they had put the Strauss-Kahn perp walk on the front page, and found this lovely little item.

Anyone who thinks of Mike Lupica as just a sportswriter needs to update their thinking.

P.S. They did.

Strauss-Kahn had a decent shot at taking out Sarko next year. So much for that.
Comrade Mary
Soundwise, I’d say he was more Baby Bragg and Junior Joe Strummer, especially those fat, echo-y, stark guitar chords and gruff, limited vocals, but still very indie 21st century. Interesting.

Meanwhile in this weeks Day of Rage in dar ul Islam–
Israel attacked on three borders.
This weeks Day of Rage PSA brought to you by the Arab Spring.
Time to rethink being joined at the hip to the Israeli-nazis?

TMI? There aint no such thing here.
Going to the doctor’s this morning (Planned Parenthood, actually) cause I started bleeding from surgery last night. As in panties and maxipad soaked with blood. So, I called surgeon doc in Oregon, he said it was okay, but little paranoid old me isn’t taking any chances. Its…nasty.

@Ghanima Atreides:
They really have become what they most fear, haven’t they? A shame. I used to be a big Israel fan as a kid. Haven’t felt the same since 1978.

Various sources are reporting that the French have recovered all the data from the two “black boxes” from that Air France plane from Rio to Paris that went down two years ago. These things spent two years under four miles or so of salt water, and all the data were recovered. Pretty amazing, if you ask me.
Somewhere a marketing exec at whatever company made the flash memory in those is spending the morning wondering if there’s any acceptable way of making an ad campaign based on this, without mentioning that over 200 people died.

Would love it if Bachmann was stupid enough to take the bait.

Here’s my daily dose of outrage: a NC woman lost a custody battle primarily because she has breast cancer. Here’s part of the judge’s reasoning (and I do use that term loosely):
Un-fucking-believable.
Omnes Omnibus
@burnspbesq: This doesn’t mean that Sarko isn’t still vulnerable; the PS just needs to choose a candidate and get behind him/her.
@Comrade Mary: Early Bragg and Strummer/Clash a la “Straight to Hell.” I like it.
jibeaux
@merrinc:
Yeah, it’s completely screwed up. There’s a FB page about it, as far as I can tell she’s still looking for a lawyer to help her. For heaven’s sakes.
My open thread / also NC-related question is this: Why is Erik Prince not in prison?
Gin & Tonic
@jibeaux:
I thought he moved to Dubai more or less to avoid that prospect.

@Amanda in the South Bay: I hope everything is okay, but, yeah, some of us avoided careers in a medical field for a reason.

That line right there is pure win.
@Amanda in the South Bay: It’s your body. If you think something is wrong, say so and do something about it. You can be told you’re being paranoid after the all clear.

@4tehlulz: Silly Rabbit! They only support you as long as you’re telling them what they want to hear…. geez, you think that anyone else was paying attention during the DADT hearings when the Military said themselves that the policy could be eradicated? Nope, Johnny McMaverick told them unequivocally that they were full of shit. All the GOP’ers believe that since they stayed in an Holiday Inn Express last night, that they’ve got this and we can all rest easy.
jibeaux
@Gin & Tonic:
Fucking shady asshole. Colombian mercenaries for the UAE? If Ken Follett wrote this in a novel, I would consider it far-fetched.
Yutsano
@jibeaux: It’s actually kind of funny if you think about it. Odds are he had to sign a contract that specifically says he cannot evangelize in any manner not consistent with Sharia law (that is to say, not at all). So it really goes to show his true God is Mammon. I’ll take them making hypocrites of themselves any day of the week.

@BDeevDad
sorry, didn’t see your post before posted.
I have some sympathy with the Israel/Apartheid meme, but comparisons to the fucking Nazis? That’s well over the line.

@Yutsano:
Well, sure, Erik Prince is not very Christlike, I think that was and continues to be evident. It’s not like he had a great reputation and now he’s exposed as a hypocrite. It just galls me that people are giving him work instead of extraditing him for prosecution.
burnspbesq
@Comrade Javamanphil:
Yeah, that was sweet, and the fact that Carolina was the victim just makes it sweeter.
Still trying to figure out how the entire Bucknell team and staff went brain-dead at the same time. They had Virginia dead and buried, and somehow the Zombie Hoos live.
Ghanima Atreides
@BDeevDad: but its true.
and idc.
Egypt and the MB are supporting the Fatah/Hamas alliance, Israel can compromise on the two-state solution or get driven into the sea.
idc about that either.
@Jazz Superluminar:
It is not over the line. The ghetto Israel built in Gaza is no different than the ghettos the Nazis built in Warsaw.
That is a reasoned comparison, however uncomfortable it makes you.
Ghanima Atreides
@THE: yup, but the US can’t do anything because Syria shares a border with Israel. Our deal with Assad was we wouldn’t try to destabilize him as long as he kept the border quiet. The only difference between Bashar and Mubarak is we gave Mubarak aid to run a secular dictatorship and a secular dictator would never fly in Syria.
That model is failing under the populist Arab Spring uprisings.
Bashar is already trying to draw Israel into the whole mess.
Omnes Omnibus
@Ghanima Atreides: Of course you care. You throw little bombs like that for the attention. Positive or negative attention, it doesn’t matter as long as you are the center of it.
Yutsano
@jibeaux: I also fully realize these are things that are funny only to me. I just lurve it when a hard-right Christianist goes for money over faith. Which of course they do every. single. time.
Only two issues with your extradition theory:
A) no current US indictment. He may have one in Iraq but not sure.
B) no extradition treaty (that I know of) with UAE. Which works in reverse of course, but it’s not like the UAE is pumping out a bunch of criminals either.
merrinc
@jibeaux:
Erik Prince is not in prison because he has money, duh. Prison is for little people, not the movers and shakers of society.
I’ve done a little more surfing on this NC custody story and there is a little more to it. But I’m still not comfortable with a judge holding a woman’s cancer against her.
THE
@Ghanima Atreides:
It’s far, far deeper than that.
IMHO The economic crisis in both Egypt and Syria is profound.
Jazz Superluminar
Honestly, if you don’t get banned for that, no one here should. Srsly, you cannot tell the difference between the two? And before you start attacking strawmen, please note my earlier comment suggesting that Israel does, in fact, persue a racially-charged policy towards Palestinians, and that it’s wrong. You give those of us trying to make a better world a bad name so please STFU, you’re not helping. Fine Muslim you turned out to be, eh?
Ghanima Atreides
@Omnes Omnibus: i have written about Palestine quite extensively on my muslim blog.
I was instrumental in getting the youtube video of dancing IDF fucktard abusing a bound Palestinian female prisoner sanctioned for content.

Your opinion of me is not one of them.
@Jazz Superluminar:
perhaps you should explain to me the difference. I don’t see a difference.
The Nazis created the Warsaw ghettos to starve and disenfranchise Poles and Jews and steal their land, and that is exactly what Israel has done in Gaza to Palestinians.
I’m a fine muslim. You know nothing about muslims, as you have eloquently and repeatedly proven.
And do please mail Cole and tell him to ban me.

I want to see Doug, or whomever, start a Herman Cain thread. Specifically, I want to start asking pundits and politicians, “can Herman Cain win?” Why not? He’s got all the talking points down as far as I can tell. He’s a trained public speaker. He has business cred. He won the only debate they’ve had. There’s no crazy stuff in his personal life that I’ve heard of. So can Herman Cain win, pundits and politicians? If so, why don’t you talk about him more? And if not, why not?

This Mudflats (Shannyn Moore) post on Alaska’s lib-rul history was very much worth reading.
http://www.themudflats.net/2011/05/15/liberally-loving-alaska/
Growing up in Seattle (“Gateway to the North”) I thought I knew Alaska history but I clearly didn’t know squat. Like they had their own “Rosa Parks” moment in 1944. Or about Elizabeth Peratrovich (see the comments).

@Ghanima Atreides:
That is probably just as well. Nevertheless, it is my opinion that you come here for the attention, and, if you do not get enough, you simply ratchet up the rhetoric until you do. So, have a nice time.

@Omnes Omnibus: lool
most ppl hate on me, mail Cole to ban me, piefilter me or ignore me.
idc.
my rhetoric starts at DEFCON 1, like ABL’s does, and like my hero Matt Taibbi’s does.
there is no rachetting involved.
Jazz Superluminar
Please provide links to where this is the case, or shut the fuck up. If you cannot see any differnce between the Warsaw ghetto and the cuurent situation in Israel, then you trully haven’t improved on your well-documented Bush dick-sucking. Tell us, did it taste good? Was it like a summer breeze with a hint of rasberries, or was Bush’s spooge more like a cocktail of sodium hydroxide and fail?
Omnes Omnibus

euwwwww that has to be gross.
Hey, Cole aren’t you required to move the LoOG into the blogs we mock column by the laws of Unified Field Theory of Libertarianism?
;)
I can’t. Please explain it to me. You said the CURRENT situ. Warsaw is like Gaza as far as I can see. And this has nothing to do with Bush, or my reversion, you are just throwing adhom chaff.
Where is the flaw in my logic?
You really want to scream rac1st and anti-semite, but you can’t, so you scream Bush-fan and fake-muslim instead.
tch tch
Jazz Superluminar
Well this may have escaped your attention(but I would not like to presume), but those Nazi guys set up a whole network of death camps as a kind of ‘Final Solution’ to European Jewery, whereas the Israelis are just being dicks to the local Palestinians. If you can see no moral difference between the two then I suggest you shut up as, yet again, you have no enlightenment to offer.
Ghanima Atreides
@Jazz Superluminar: I am not arguing that the process of getting there was different, the history was different– I am saying the Warsaw ghetto then is very similiar to what the Gaza ghetto is today.
Neither Warsaw or Gaza were/are deathcamps.
I said this.
Do you deny the similarities?
Then explain why Warsaw then is different than Gaza today.
THE
Jazz Superluminar is right. The Warsaw Ghetto functioned as a holding pen for Jews prior to being sent to extermination camps like Treblinka.

“my hero Matt Taibbi”
Your hero is a lying sack of shit. That explains a lot.
Kirk Spencer
First thing I thought was that I was being rickrolled. Now… what, did Rick Astley have a love child?
Ghanima Atreides
@THE: then why were there Poles in the Warsaw ghetto too?
That was not the exclusive purpose, it was PART of the purpose, and again, Warsaw never functioned as a deathcamp.
Superluminar is WRONG.
Whether the INTENT of the Nazis was different than the INTENT of the Israelis is not the question.
address the actual argument Spock, or butt out.
Ghanima Atreides
@burnspbesq: wow.
I guess I must choose between cultivating burnsy’s approval and worshipping at the alter of guerrilla journalism.
Not a difficult choice.
;)
THE
What is your source for that?
I am not aware there were any Poles in the Warsaw Ghetto unless they were also intended for extermination like the Romany (Gypsies) or homosexuals.
Surly Duff
@Yutsano:
But you don’t have to choose if you follow the Prosperity Gospel! Jesus was crucified so I could drive a Porsche. [Note: I do not own a porsche]
Ghanima Atreides
@THE: jaysus Spock, Polish Jews and suspected Jews, undesireables, Roms, homosexuals, mongrel races, but all Poles….but NO GAS CHAMBERS IN THE GHETTO!
It wasnt a deathcamp.
Quit splitting hairs.
Warsaw and Gaza have a lot of similiarities.
Sound familiar to the Gaza Blockade?
THE
When you consider that the average food ration in the Warsaw Ghetto during 1942 was only 186 calories a day, it is obvious that the occupants of the Ghetto were not intended to survive.
So why would anyone who was not intended for extermination be put in there?
Ghanima Atreides
@THE: oh fuck off spock. you already lost.
THE
I dont think so.
Omnes Omnibus
@THE: Unfortunately, she is right. You lost the moment you started arguing with her. Just not in the way she thinks you did.

It amuses me to argue with her.

The closest thing to a principled, factually based argument we will ever get from matoko/ghanima/whatever her interim handle was.
Ghanima Atreides
ya know…my point is sure the jews were treated horrifically, but that doesnt give them a pass to act like Nazis towards the Palestinians.
If anything, the experience of the Jews should sensitize them.
And they are acting like Nazis.
Deal.
THE
It’s a poor choice of analogy. It is exaggerated.
There are much more-accurate analogies.
For example, if you said that Israelis were treating the Palestinian Arabs the same way the Americans treated the North American Indians, I would not object.
They are acting like colonialists.
Ghanima Atreides
@THE: jesusHfuckingkeeyristinnahandcart.
It is an accurate analogy.
Americans didnt BLOCKADE the indians or wall them up in a ghetto.
This is generational. ppl my age have grown up watching the Palestinians starve. We dont give a shit about eratz israel. their holocaust guilt card has run out with us.
Get over it.
Israel has become what they worst despised. Quit trying to softpedal it.
THE
@Ghanima Atreides:
I think perhaps you need to study the Nazis, to understand why they really were different.
As a young person, I found Hitler a fascinating case-study of the “problem of evil”.
Studying him played a significant part in convincing me that there is no God.
