Oklahoma is getting absolutely plastered. There are also tornado warnings up for parts of Kansas, Iowa, and North Carolina-and some nasty storms in the DFW area.

I’d add an Eric Cantor crack but this isn’t the time. You folks be safe down there and we’ll be around to help, afterward if you need it.
the joplin tornado has just been upgraded to an F5. 123 confirmed dead, worst twister in 60 years.

Well, that was fun.
The big one just missed us by about half a mile. Dissapated just as it got southeast of my house. dropped some insulation that it took from somewhere in my lawn. No damage in my neighborhood. Same supercell started up again just east of south OKC/Moore area, but missed my sister’s place and my dad’s place.
El Reno (west of OKC) hammered bad. Okarche-Piedmont area hit hard. A good friend and her family lost home.
Just south of Norman, towns of Noble and Lexington hit. Unknown number of people killed. Confirmed reports of 3 dead. Storms continuing to the east, paralling I-40 towards Muskogee and McAlester and I-44 towards Tulsa and Joplin, MO.
Tornado still on the ground passed just south and now east of us here in Jenks, near Tulsa. Been an anxiety filled day, given how difficult it is to know just where and when things are going to jump off when the SPC forecasts a full scale outbreak. The only other high risk day resulted in Tuscaloosa, so there was plenty of reason to be adrenalized.
Since neither Jenks nor the city of Tulsa have any designated public shelters any longer, we were set to flee to my wife’s workplace, which, being an old police station, still has the jail cells in the center of the building.
Pics and video from the hardest hit areas you named are heartbreaking. It’s been an insane storm season this year.

@Fallsroad: Good to see that you all are OK, too.
It’s been crazy. Is there any word on the aquarium up ya’ll’s way? (for the rest of you, the Oklahoma aquarium in Jenks was severely damaged by a storm a few months back.)
Think the aquarium recovered from the damage. It was a broken water pipe that caved in a ceiling, back in February or March, as I recall.
Daylight tomorrow is going to reveal some really terrible destruction all across the state. I used to live in Norman, and I know there were a couple of big tornadoes down that way as well.
And now the whole show shifts a bit to the east, and Tulsa will see a re-run for the fourth day in a row, in terms of watches and warnings. The idea that Joplin might be under the gun again tomorrow makes me queasy.

Good link.
I understand that tornadoes are presently in the area of north Norman and south Oklahoma City. BJ commenter Soonergrunt lives close to Norman IIRC.

I guess that tornadoes are working their way through the entire middle third or so of Oklahoma, from Texas to Arkansas.
Tulsa, Muskogee, and McAllester in Oklahoma, and Ft. Smith in Arkansas are in the line of fire.
I also note that Norman has had tornadoes spotted on all sides.
Better hide, Sooner.

@Linda Featheringill: I thought of him too when I first read about these, hope the dude’s ok, haven’t seen him posting here for a while.

As I posted earlier, the OK City radar is here. The entire South Plains Sector is here.
Just FYI, the loop works fine on a Windows machine, but not on my iPad.

@soonergrunt: Horrible storms and I’m sure we have no idea just how damaging they were, but glad you’re OK, sooner.

@soonergrunt: Glad to hear you are ok!

@soonergrunt: Well, glad to hear you and yours came through it OK. Sorry to hear about so many other unlucky duckies. Again.
Looks like it’s about 2 hours away from Joplin, but Tulsa is in the path first.

Glad to hear you’re OK, Sooner. Pardon me while I worry about my friends in McAlester, will you, though? *frets*

@All–thanks for the good thoughts, the prayers, the voodoo, and whatever else.
@Lysana–of course. I’m worried about friends there too.
