Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Come on, man.

Books are my comfort food!

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

And the war on women continues:

Idaho Woman Arrested and Charged with ‘Unlawful Abortion’
    __
Unable to afford the doctors visits and medical bills associated with an actual medical abortion, Jennie L. McCormack of Idaho instead had her sister purchase drugs online to ingest in order to cause a miscarriage. McCormack, who is the mother of three, is now being charged with “unlawful abortion” according to the Associated Press.
    __
If McCormack is found guilty, she could be subject to a $5000 penalty as well as up to five years in prison.

According to the commentary on that episode, Tierney was a raving lunatic.

@Southern Beale: Expect to see more of this in the near future. I’m sure the family values crowd will demand the death penalty for this poor woman and for her three children to be sold to human traffickers because that’s the type of people they are.

    Doug,

Isn’t it time to create a Mark Halperin award for the most breathtakingly stupid commentary on politics?

Halperin’s gems from yesterday’s Last Word

And she [Palin] quit the governorship — I’m not here as an apologist for her — under the laws of the state her family was going to be bankrupt by litigation and public records requests. She wasn’t interested in doing that. I’m not saying that’s a positive for her, but I don’t think it’s a reflection of her ambition, her level of ambition or her interest in public service.

I think he’s [Trump] much more serious about running before than you do. He spent a fair amount of time about talking to people working for his campaign. I don’t know why he would have gone through hours and hours of meetings if it were all just a charade.

@Southern Beale: It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Portugal had banned abortion, up until the point women started actually getting threatened to be sent to jail for the abortions. The ban ended pretty quickly after that.

$68 (plus a 5% tip to ActBlue). No numerological reason for the odd number, except that it divided into eighths fairly cleanly.

PS if the Republicans get their 3 recall petitions approved for the ballot, I assume those three Democrats will be added?

Here’s my blog post on it: Those Sluts Must Be Punished.

The thing that gets me is that this just proves what we’ve been saying all along: putting up roadblocks to abortion — even making it illegal — won’t stop it from happening! It just pushes women into to doing desperate, unsafe things. Instead of making abortion so impossible to access that a woman has to treat herself, possibly permanenly injuring or killing herself and leaving three kids without a parent, isn’t it just better to have a doctor do the procedure?

I’m sorry. There I go again, making sense to people who have zero interest in reason or logic. Sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking.

I’m not a cheap bastard, I’m a penniless bastard. I’m home from college and living with my folks, but cannot find a summer job to save my life, and the amounts I’m seeing some people donate amount to close to 20% of my life savings. Wish I could do more. I might kick in a $10 or $20 closer to election day. Hopefully I’ll have a job by then.
