I’ve got nothing planned, so bitchin’ on the internet is all I got ’til tomorrow when I’m going to see X-Men First Class. I’m really kinda excited about this movie. I hope it’s good!

We had the most spectacular day in DC today–perfect weather, rare in this parts. Sunny, with a breeze, no humidity. So after taking advantage by swimming a mile and working out outside for an hour I am now off to meet a friend for drinks at our neighborhood haunt.

Out of the house all day–
Li vs. Schiavone! Awesome!
Srebotnik and Zimonjic blew it.
Cabal and Schwank beat the Bryan brothers. They seem to be having something positive going.

Read this over at Politico. Kinda wish this was on video.
I can actually hear Obama saying this in my head.

Our local Republicans broke with tradition and did not march in this year’s Memorial Day parade. It was kind of a bummer as my husband and I so wanted to point and laugh.

Been job-hunting today and did 10 online applications and follow-up calls on 4 others. Also backflushed the pool and replaced the chlorine tablets in the filtration system.
Tonight’s a night for sitting around with a big glass of ginger ale and playing Pokemon with my kid cousin. Geez, these games got complicated since I last played them.

This is so great. NBC is going to stream the Federer-Djokovic match live on the intertubes instead of making us wait for the Today show to be over. Via sluggahjells.

@TK412:
ah, a STEALTH Greenwald link.

Sprucing up my resume because these are desperate times, and desperate measures are called for. Then going to a fundraiser for our local film festival. And dinner in there somewhere, and watering my garden boxes, and annoying the cats.
Reading the list, maybe I should be bitching on the internet instead.

@Grand Wazoo:
hell yeah, I can’t wait for the auditions to be over. I do have a sad though because from what I’ve read Alex Wong from last year is not quite recovered yet, so he won’t be able to compete this year.
Still I love this show.

Making pea soup. Or maybe lentil.
And trying out a new recipe for greens using that curly kale stuff.
That is about as exciting as a Thursday night gets around here.
But! I forgot to check whether still any smoked ham shanks left in the freezer. OK, that will provide the suspense and excitement for this evening.

Don’t go “stealing” Netflix use in Tennessee:
Another victory for “small government,” where small means whatever big media companies want.

What’s with this?
I’d love to hear the reasoning behind this move. It must be because strip mining hasn’t done enough damage already. Or maybe it’s because we need more coal-fired power plants spewing pollution and building up lakes of toxic sludge.
Whatever the administration’s thinking, it sure isn’t green.

Waiting for the seafood salad to get a good chill on before serving up for supper, then hoping to knock out about fifty pages of the Malcolm X book by Marable. My reading of it is slowing down because it’s nearing the end. It’s not that I don’t already know how it ends, it’s just that Marable has created such a complete picture of Malcolm that I hate to see his story come to an end. If that makes any sense.

Is there anything that this asshole knows or is right about?
No, you stupid, arrogant, grifting, shortsighted bitch, it is to avoid another fishing stock collapse like the cod collapse in the 90s, something that Newfoundland still hasn’t completely recovered from.

Brined a turkey in Jack Daniels/ Honey Jack and other things I’m going to smoke for a dinner party Saturday, planning the rest of my menu. Know I’m gonna serve a white Sangria with peaches and ginger and some jalapeno/chipotle cookies for apps. It’s in the mid 90’s in Memphis for the rest of the week ( feels 105+) So the Sangria will be cooling. Thinking about a sour cherry and dark chocolate chunk gellato for dessert. Today is my two golden retrievers second birthday, so I got them some pupsicles or whatever they are called for a special treat.
Was a total ditz in a conversation with a collegue today, and I’m still all giggly about it. She was complaining about how Kindle sells so many classics which should be out of copyright protection for almost as much as they sell new bestsellers. And I was trying to remember the name of Guttenberg Project, since they have pdfs of the greats for free. And I sid, ” You know the bible folks,” and she looked a bit blankly at me, and I said you know ” The Nuremburg Bible.” And as soon as I let it out of mouth I started laughing and said ” Oh Christ, I just Godwinned the bible. Hell, I just Godwinned movable press too.” And we’re both cracking up, and as I was walking away I said,” Sheesh, that’s like the double Axelrod of Godwinning.” And by then we were both just cackling!

And who is this sweetie?

@Dee Loralei:
On the first pass I read your opening sentence as, “Brained a turkey…” I thought, damn, this woman is serious about her turkey.

I received a package from Amazon today. I now have a copy of When Everything Changed. And a couple of other goodies, too. :-)

Saw Kung Fu Panda 2. Loved it. Not just because it has a Malaysian (Michelle Yeoh, a damn fine actress) in its cast, or because its Asian character rings absolutely true. (One of the worst offenders in this regard is the film of Pearl Buck’s The Good Earth, with an all-white principal cast playing a family of implausibly noble Chinese people. Stupid, stupid.) It’s a solid movie all over. The hero isn’t just a generic Heroic Guy Doing Heroic Stuff, he actually grows as a person in the course of the story.
My recovery continues. I am slowly regaining strength: I can now walk a decent distance, if only the usual tens of meters at a leisurely amble, without almost fainting.
Grand Wazoo
@lamh34: Yeah, I’m not a big fan of reality teevee, but I make an exception for this show. The amount of talent some of these kids have is just off the charts.

I do! Watching more of Justified Season 1 on DVD.
Trust me: it’s much more awesome than it sounds.

so far the ipod on shuffle is all the entertainment i can handle. right now it’s pouring out Fat Man in the Bathtub from Waiting for Columbus. good lord, is anything better? lowell george is, as linda ronstadt said, hellaciously good. song makes me think of chris christie, newtie, haley barbour, henry hyde (‘member him, enormous vile gooper hypocrite from ohio, said his affair at age 40–he fragged his paramour’s marriage, natch–was a “youthful indiscretion.” author of the egregiously mean-spirited hyde amendment, source of much misogynist mischief to this day. had so much hot air in him that if you poked his vast belly with a big needle you’d melt the polar ice cap. anyway, him.
of course, these drugs won’t take themselves.

@Phyllis: oh, hellz yeah. the end of a good book is a little death. i was rereading Busman’s Honeymoon on the 1 train the other night (not sayers’s best but i feel tenderly toward it for some reason) and arrived at the quite moving last graf just as the train pulled into my stop. sweet. marable was not the worst.

@Yevgraf (fka Michael): And then I read the reader comments at Politico, all about how “our pretty Sarah” had a bus “because she gets out there and earns her money, unlike the liberals” and I had a big old sad. Today, I’m convinced that the faster this country self-immolates, the better it will be for me. And that’s all that matters, right, pretty Sarah?

Isn’t Scott Myer the ‘booby’ guy? Where are the boobys? I mean, it’s never been funny, but there was usually at least one or two panels where a woman was breast feeding, or anatomically challenged. Did Scott’s woman leave him? And if so, what took so long?

Nothing planned for tonight, but thought I would update all on my experience last night. The Somebody and I went to see Chris Pureka at the Tin Angel in Philly. Great show, great venue, btw.
But as the room started to fill up, I noticed a distinct lack of XY chromosomes. In a room filled with around 120 people, I was one of four males in the audience. Make of that what you will, but if you get the chance, check out Pureka’s live show. She’s pretty good.

Going to see Titus Andronicus and Okkervil River at the 930 Club. Woot!

@ Tim Serbo. How interesting! I just finished my more-or-less annual reading of the four LPW-HV novels in sequence, so also turned the last page of BH a day or two ago. Have you read any of the Jill Paton Walsh novels about married Peter and Harriet?

@Dee Loralei: Sorry, I misread your post. I thought it stated that you were brined in Jack Daniels. I was impressed.

The irony is that conservatives would see this same cartoon as ripping on liberals because they imagine that we are all pro-murderer (I mean, if we don’t want to lock all of the undifferentiated BAD people up immediately and forever, then we must love murderers, right? Makes perfect sense so long as you are incapable of thinking more than half a move ahead).
FlipYrWhig
@hatmandu: No, that’s a different cartoonist… “Day By Day,” IIRC?

@Amir_Khalid: I think that ‘Good Earth’ movie was done back in the late 30s, so you have to consider the times.
Isn’t the Chinese family in the book pretty noble, or did the film remove any nuance? I have never read the book.
Edit: Was watching Finals last night until Miami went up 14 in 4th quarter & I then turned it off. Doh!
