Plan is to take the dogs to the local lake this morning, then cook steak&pepper stir-fry and some wonton soup, maybe a nap, then head to a couple friend’s joint 40th celeb on a party barge at the big lake around 5.
Pretty sure if I check in later, “sunburned” and “dehydrated” will be accurate descriptors.
The Jane Hamsher’s of the Left are going to very unhappy. Barney Frank:
The trouble with new media is the fact that there’s no screen. Anyone can publish anything. We still have the notion that if it’s printed it has some validity. Previously, you had to convince at least one other person that it was worth printing. Now, anyone can print anything in this medium. In general, there’s a lot more gossip and fragmentation. People are starting to just get reinforcement in the media. On the left, it’s MSNBC, Fire Dog Lake and The Huffington Post. On the right, it’s Fox News and the talk radio hosts. People interpret facts differently through these parallel universes. It’s what makes compromise so hard because your partisans just think your selling them out because that’s what everyone they know says. It deepens and sharpens a partisan and ideological divide.
I’m familiar with Welch/Rawlings. I own some of their stuff, but I don’t consider myself a big fan. We’ll see whether that changes tomorrow.

For @Mutant Poodle re Ezra, Aaron and premium support.
First, here’s the Ezra/Aaron interview you referred to a couple of days ago:
And here is Aaron on the health policy site he contributes to explaining why a shitty premium support plan is not really a premium support plan. http://bit.ly/m2XYuE
But note that in the interview with Ezra (and elsewhere) he renounces premium support, saying PPACA should be allowed to operate–that the various cost-reducing innovations should be evaluated before (he doesn’t say this explicitly) shifting more of the costs onto the senior population in order to reduce “utilization,” through a premium support system.
Bold is Ezra. Aaron afterewards
================================================ The argument Ryan would give you, I think, is that he can use inflation because making seniors into consumers will make them much more conscientious shoppers and they’ll hold down costs in ways that government could never dream of doing. Is he wrong?
The idea here is the competition imposed by just the elderly and disabled is going to bring about these changes. But we have a lot of choice already in Medicare, due to Medicare Advantage. If we were going to get these terrific results, why haven’t we seen them yet?
The other point is we’ve just enacted the Affordable Care Act. It includes, in my view, just about every idea for reining in the growth of spending that analysts have come up with, though it doesn’t go far on some of them. So here we are, we’ve just enacted a piece of legislation under which we might mobilize the potential of the Medicare program to leverage changes in the delivery system and payment systems, and just at that moment, we now have a call to scrap all that and turn to the possible power of just a fraction of health insurance buyers to rein in the growth of spending.

@Phyllis: I am a confessed Kindle addict. Greatest thing evah!
I got a new pool book this morning however, my daughter has a softball game at 11 and my son has soccer at 3. Then we are headed to a Susan G. Komen fundraiser.
Pretty excited to go to the USA-España soccer match today at Foxborough. It’ll be pretty cool to see the World Cup champs on US soil. We’re going to tailgate and I’ve got sausages, burgers, and Golden Monkey… so it should be a good time.

I got nothing. All these people on here in healthy relationships, making plans, engaging in healthy activities, what’s that all about?
I guess I should be encouraged that in today’s America, such things still exist.
I wish I’d thought of this earlier but before the Mississippi River flooding fades into memory, let’s remember what the Republicans called “wasteful spending” in the 2009 stimulus bill:
I’d almost rather watch bill orally while giving limbaugh a reach around.

@demkat620: I got it the first of May and have already read Grant’s memoirs on it. I don’t need my glasses to read on it, and don’t get a headache after an hour or so of reading. Totally into the free books through Gutenberg.
As little as possible. Spent hours on my little tractor yesterday moving rock around, replacing that which was washed away in the big rains we had last month. Hot and bumpy. Some excitement last night in the gully below the house, Jack and Buddy both in a tussle with some unseen critter. Much yelping and screeching. Both dogs finally coaxed away from the battle though Jack seemed to really have his dander up. We’ve never heard quite the like as sounded last night. Eerie, blood curdling, etc.
Getting married in about 5 hours and we have to finish putting the house together. Wish us luck.

So I was bored earlier with everything on the interwebs, and decided I’d see what this blog’s old friend Sully was up to. After scrolling down through some boring shit, I came across this. I’m just going to quote without comment:
I am a 60 year old sexually repressed woman. One of the reasons that I read your blog is because it pulses with sexual energy. This morning I had a dream and you were in it. We were dancing, you and I, and I had my feet on your feet but I was somehow draped over your back, rather than in front of you. You were somehow carrying me piggyback, but still, my feet were on yours. We were in an old house, dancing around through the rooms. Other people were there partying.
it gets worse.

@Southern Beale: I actually think the Dems understand the problem. The issue is that no one has a clue about how you get the politics to work when the other side has effective control of the media, We the People are very susceptible to the scare tactics of the right wing media machine, and you need shitloads upon shitloads of money to be competitive.

Dropped the youngest off for his SAT II tests, about to head out into the wilds of NJ for an all-day meeting.
In the process of cleaning out our house for sale, room by room, husband got ahead of me last weekend when I was at work, so tomorrow I attempt to catch up by tackling the attic. This is going to be no fun, but it has to be done.
At this moment the dogs are out back playing “tag” with the cat. I think lots of fun is being had by all. That is, until someone tags the cat “too hard” and he gets mad…

@The Ancient Randonneur: The trouble with comparing FDL and Fox is that FOX is a huge corporation with multibillion dollar backing which is blasted into hundred of millions of people’s home with 24 hours of video content focused on brainwashing people to buy into their dystopian world view. One might argue that FDL also has a dystopian world view, but being a web site with a couple of posts a day and a relatively tiny following, they just aren’t even close to comparable.
Plus, IMO, they’re more similar in their viewpoints than either one of them might want to admit. Both outlets are rabidly anti-Obama, they just come at it from different directions.
