Via my polytalented colleague Nick Montfort, I learned of this absurdly cool — really mesmerizing — video made by digital artist jörg piringer:
<div align=”center”><iframe width=”560″ height=”349″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/Z_sl99D2a18″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
I now have a new item for my bucket list: getting my own character accepted to Unicode.
By the way: be careful. Watching this for too long may induce long unfelt cravings for a blacklight, Robin Trower solos,* and whatever it was you put in that bong.
Open thread, all. Have at it.
*To which I’m listening as I post this.

Ate too much.

Time to send some $$ to Wisconsin recall. Walker and his friends have come out against breweries! In Wisconsin. Next thing you know they’ll try to regulate bratwurst out of existence, too.

Cloud Cult. You Will be Bright. If you get the chance to see them, I highly encourage it. Energetic DFH’s ftw.

You might want to put a warning to people with seizure disorders not to watch that video. I suspect it could cause some people problems.

Was Robin Trower ever known for anything other than “Bridge of Sighs?” I mean, it seems like the guy put out a bunch of albums, but they all had one side devoted to various iterations of “Bridge of Sighs.” Robin Trower was proud of that fucking song.
The character generator thing was cool too, I guess.

I thought the video was very cool. When I started I said, Meh, I won’t last 30 seconds. Five minutes later, I said, I have to turn this off. It’s messing with my head. Expect I’ll watch all of it eventually.

My favorite thing about the Unicode standard is that it includes the Shavian alphabet, which no one has ever used and which has letter names like “peep” and “ha-ha”.

@Evolved Deep Southerner: Well, there’s Day of the Eagle, Long Misty Days, About to Begin, Smile, In City Dreams, and a whole cavalcade of others. In my opinion about anything with James Dewar singing lead is a classic. But that’s just me. I’m not aware of any albums that have other versions of Bridge of Signs unless you’e talking Beyond the Mist and that’s a live album.

There’s always the time when Trower got funky.

As I sip on an Upslope brown ale, brewed just blocks away, that crap would would just not fly in Colorado. Walker’s just pouring hydrochloric acid on the wound. Rightwingnuts are already trying to kill grandma through Medicare. Apple pie is the next thing to die in Republican hands, if we let them.

What’s your character? I’ve always been fascinated by the alphabet. When I found out about the Greek and Cyrillic alphabets, I was in heaven. When I learned about ð and þ, once used in English and still used in Icelandic, I made it my life’s ambition to get them brought back into the English alphabet. Needless to say, I’m still working on it; converting people to ð & þ can be slow work…

I find it amazing that from around the 4 minute mark, for the next 20 minutes it’s all Chinese characters.
