Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

T R E 4 5 O N

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Second rate reporter says what?

Consistently wrong since 2002

Everybody saw this coming.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Because I know not everyone checks the Great Orange Satan, I take the liberty of reposting this awesomely wonderful bit opening the Tony Award broadcast:

<div align=”center”><iframe width=”425″ height=”349″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/-6S5caRGpK4″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

Like the theater, everyone is welcome to this thread.

Oh — and feel free to fill in the “they” of your choice as to who just might worry about the freedoms celebrated above.

I missed the actual telecast, but I did catch the video of NPH and Hugh Jackman’s “host-off” dance number. It was fabulous. I watched it at least 3x.

Heck I watched it again when I found the link just now.
Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman duet at 2011 Tony Awards

I would watch next year of NPH and Jackman hosted together next year!

Reminds me of this story. Only in Conservotard land is the phrase “All are welcome” controversial.

Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman both RULE.

Especially NPH; all Hugh Jackman had to live down was Wolverine; who is cool.

Since it’s an open thread, can anyone tell me any alternatives to PayPal that they think are trustworthy? I want to try to start selling some of my art over the internet, but I’ve heard awful things about PayPal’s customer service, and I’m not sure I want to give money to anything that Peter Thiel is even remotely involved with.

So, apparently, someone decided to release Duke Nuke’m Forever, and Ars Technica savages it. There are some rather disturbing comments attached to the article, too, though most seem to agree with the author.

NPH is great. Hugh Jackman is great. The opening number is excellent. But for me, the piece of resistance is the number from Copany, the absolute best musical of all time. I saw it during its opening week on Broadway (yeah, I’m old enough to have done that) and have never returned to earth.

@Chad N Freude: I saw it a little bit later — in fact, after Larry Kert had taken over for Dean Jones — but I still view it as the most ground-shaking night I’ve ever spent in a theatre. Changed my whole view of what was possible (something I’ve tried to live up to, as a playwright myself).

@jeff: My daughter saw him in Rent when it played in LA. She stood in line with a bunch of impoverished students in order to get tickets at a discount, and they were in the front row.

She and the other students were invited backstage for a cast party, and the actors told them that they could see them weeping during the show which made the actors feel wonderful that they had been so moved.

@Chad N Freude: My personal preference was Raúl Esparza’s stint as Bobby in 2006 (saw it on PBS). Afraid I don’t think anyone can top his performance though I love NPH (except HIMYM, which I loathe). I plan on seeing the film version of Company tonight (Colbert in Company! I’m wetting my pants already!)

BUT (don’t hate me), no musical can surpass Sweeney Todd which I saw as an impressionable youth…
