TPM reported that the Dan Choi bitchfest about Obama was jam packed and the discussion of the netroots and the WI protests was not close to full. Kind of sad.
Not really. Bloggers have long been an inaccurate sample of the rank and file liberal base.
The Democratic poll firm PPP did a poll on Weiner and self described liberals only gave him an 18% approval, while giving him a 62% disapproval rating. (see page 2) That’s devastating. Those numbers are as bad as Gingrich, Ryan, and Palin. Yet, unlike rank and file liberals, Weiner is wildly popular with rank and file bloggers.
I must not have seen the thing about Dan Choi. Is he not happy with the speed of DADT repeal? I’ve long had an ambivalent reaction to him, in that I’m sympathetic to his plight but I basically think he often is bufoonish. I could be off on that, but I don’t think so.
Anyway, I just put $35 in the recall kitty. I’m feeling good about it, and about kicking Scott Walker out next year. Every time I worry that Walker won’t be recalled, I remember that this guy is such a zealot for very unpopular ideas that he just can’t help himself.

Speaking of democracy, The Guardian had a little slideshow of pictures from the protests in Greece. There is something very moving about the clouds of smoke and tear gas rising up around the Parthenon, but maybe that is because I’m a bit of a history geek.

@ Mike Kay:
Not really sure what Weiner’s approval number have to do with attendance at sessions at Netroots Nation, but since you brought them up, it seems he’s still pretty popular in his district, which is probably the approval rating that matters.
My comment of “sad” was directed at the NN attendees. They’re clearly more interested in listening to liberal “stars” bash the president than they are in going to session about actually, you know, doing something. That’s what’s sad.
Violet: What I’m saying is that true progressive are completely different than the rank and file bloggers, like the one who attend NN, and that difference can be demonstrated thought the vast difference in Weiner’s polling numbers among general liberals vs his standing in online blogs.
@Mike Kay (True Grit): It can be unsurprising and still sad.

Democrats always want somebody else’s money. Get off your butts and make your own money.
Here is a good idea for a Democrat fundraiser. The folks down Mexico-way have developed a new form of entertainment, which we have on good authority, is called ‘‘Who Is Going to Be the Next Hit Man?’. More people would watch a reality show based on this competition than American Idol or Dancing with the Stars as it involves gladiator fights with the loser being quartered.

1. Nika riot, 532
More than 30,000 citizens of ancient Constantinople (now Istanbul) died in January after a chariot race in the Hippodrome between the Blues and the Greens, two of the four prominent factions in the empire. After the race, Emperor Justinian accused some faction members of murder and sentenced them to death. Citizens reacted by invading the emperor’s palace after a second chariot race in the Hippodrome, where thousands of faction members died in the five-day riot. Throughout the rioting, people yelled, “nika,” Greek for victory or conquest.
Richard Ginsburg, a professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School and author of “Whose Game Is It, Anyway?” says such actions mimic primal and tribal behavior. “When your tribe gets beaten by another tribe, it can be very threatening,” he says.

I thought the picture was hot. It looks like a scene from a Bernardo Bertolucci film.

Morons get drunk and fuck shit up after a championship. What a news flash.
Thanks, Doug, for reminding everyone about the BJ Wisconsin fund. It’s been a tough week here (the supreme court reversing Sumi with extremely suspicious timing, the budget going to votes, general assholishness from the Republicans all over the place), and it just makes the recalls more important than ever. People are motivated and we have good candidates for all the districts, but the Republicans are making sure the recalls are going to be as painful and expensive as they possibly can.

Actually, it is a little ass-backwards because — if I understand this correctly — the Vancouverites rioted because they lost. US-ian sports fans are more prone to victory rioting.

Wondering if anyone has been following the Vancouver riots that happened last night. Chief of the Vancouver PD released a statement claiming, in essence, that organized criminals (and anarchists) seeded the violence that followed.
