Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

T R E 4 5 O N

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Bark louder, little dog.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Where’s your evidence?

by Sarah, Proud and Tall|  June 17, 201110:37 pm| 43 Comments

This post is in: Gay Rights are Human Rights, Assholes

FacebookTweetEmail

CNN presenter Kyra Phillips practices actual journalism and reduces NOM spokesman David Tyree to (even more) incoherent babbling by using such unfair journalistic tactics as research, follow-up questions and requests for him to provide evidence for his statements.

More of this please.

ETA:

Evangelicals, Jews and Catholics in the state are urgently mobilizing their communities to bring a stop to the legalization of gay marriage. Senators’ offices are being inundated with calls with the Senate expected to vote on the Marriage Equality Act Friday.

If you live in New York, have you called your senator yet?

Do people have such empty, meaningless lives that they have to concern themselves with other people’s marriages to this extent? I know a lot of other straight people whose marriages I find offensive for a variety of reasons. Should I mobilize myself to call my state rep to invalidate these offensive marriages?

Monday is the key. On Tuesday, the state senate goes into summer recess until September. So it the republican senate blocks the vote on Monday, the issue goes on ice for 3 months.

Tyree is an ex-junkie and ex-NFLer. I have trouble taking a recovering addict who was never anything more than a third-stringer at the highest level of his profession seriously. Yes, Progressive New Yorkers should call their elected officials on this, but they shouldn’t sweat the likes of David Tyree.

https://twitter.com/#!/ball4ny/status/81912792394899456 “Opening up the discussion! So, if you were me, how would you vote on gay marriage? Yes or No?”

A few days ago, Greg Ball, has said he’ll vote “no” unless he gets very specific language in the bill that carves out exceptions for religious groups.

Yesterday he was asking people how to vote on Facebook… why is he asking again on twitter? Is he hoping to get a different response?

    @Villago Delenda Est:

Why the hell should you care about even the sex lives of others, let alone their legal status in a marriage?

Simple. Because the Bible says that God will punish the whole nation if it fails to follow His laws. This is not a minor little thing you find in some obscure passage. It’s repeated again and again in the Torah and is the major thrust of the later prophets. If you take the Bible literally and are dumb enough to confuse the USA with Israel, you have to believe that it’s essential to prevent other people from sinning in order to protect the country as a whole. As far as I’m concerned, it’s one more reason to ignore the Bible, but there are plenty of people who think it’s a great reason to persecute anyone who doesn’t follow their interpretation of the Bible.

I like that she brought up infertile couples, and then he’s all “HOW DOES THAT HAVE ANY BEARING” and blah blah. If your argument is that same sex couples are “unnatural” because they can’t procreate, then yeah, by that rationale you should also be against opposite sex couples who either can’t or don’t wish to do so. Also, that would mean elderly people can’t get married either, but if Tyree is like his fellow Republiturds, he probably just wants them all to kick off around 65 anyway.

And as is often mentioned, if kids are just going to diiiiiieeee or turn into demon spawn without a mom and a dad raising them, I guess these wingnut fucks will get right on with drafting legislation to ban divorce, right? And possibly also laws that say if your spouse dies, you have to remarry within X amount of time or your kids will be taken from you? I mean, THINK OF THE CHILDRENS and whatever.

Oh, whoopee. A TV face goes after a fish in a barrel. She happens to be doing what I think is the right thing here, but so what? As has been noted already, this sort of “attack” hardly ever happens to any of the Important People. Unless, of course, they belong to the Wrong Side. Why gloat over this? You can be darned sure that next time around this same person or one of her clones will be all “we report, you decide” on some other artificial “controversy” like jobs, public health, the role of government, the color of the sky or something equally controversial. These faces save their righteous indignation for lightweights like Tyree here, or for sex stuff they can get wet about.

I don’t get this. I’m Jewish. If I went to a Catholic priest and asked him to marry me, he could say no. Is there some specific exception in “heterosexual law” that allows him to do this? Jeez, I know Catholics who have been refused by Catholic priests for their own weddings. What about passing a law for gay marriage changes the ability of clergy to decide whom they will marry? Am I missing something?

This ‘one woman, one man’ ordained by God cannard is so easily refuted–why doesn’t anyone go after it? If that is their position, than how do these folks explain the ‘God-ordained’ polygamy of the Old Testament? This was actually a documented form of God-approved marriage that ‘existed before our country’ and that we(certain elements of the Mormon faith excluded) chose to ‘mess’ with. Why did we not dissolve into anarchy from this breach of God’s plan?

If the justification is that Christians follow the New Testament, not the Old, then most are in serious breach of their contractual obligations since most of the ‘rules’ the right tries to impose can not be found in the New Testament–only the Old and they don’t get to have it both ways.

They want more than that. They want service agencies like Catholic Charities that are acting as proxies for the state in service provision to be able to refuse to treat all citizens equally. They want state money and the subsidization of their bigotry.
