WTF is the “religious exemption”? Were they afraid that priests would be forced at gunpoint to marry ze ghey? My understanding has always been that if religious groups didn’t want to participate in this by conducting ceremonies, no one cared. This is about marriage as a secular legal process, not a religious one.

Yeah, well this will blow his nasty little “victory” over the unions right off the front page. What a horrible prick he is.

Nah, congratulations to all of us across the country who know that every state that does it makes it a little easier for the next one to follow.

Dear home state, I am looking at you…the civil unions are nice and a decent step 1, but you know we’ve always had an inferiority complex about NY, and we have a Dem legislature, so let’s go already.

    @ protected static:

    Nothing against amyl nitrate, but:

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas or sweet air, is a chemical compound with the formula N2O. It is an oxide of nitrogen. At room temperature, it is a colorless non-flammable gas, with a slightly sweet odor and taste. It is used in surgery and dentistry for its anesthetic and analgesic effects. It is known as “laughing gas” due to the euphoric effects of inhaling it, a property that has led to its recreational use as a dissociative anesthetic.

Nitrous oxide is definitely cool — it’s literally the only thing that makes my trip to the dentist bearable — but amyl nitrate, which was ubiquitous in gay circles in the 70s/early 80s (enough that even a straight guy like me knew all about it), would seem the more appropriate drug of choice on this occasion.

I think flying monkeys on nitrous oxide would enliven many a party, even the ones SP&T hosts. Unleash away. Only, when I currently read nitrous oxide I think of Humphry Davy and that’s a slightly different kind of vibe. Maybe no. He did know Coleridge and Davy did test the stuff a lot in his off-hours.

Massachussetts Supreme Court Orders All Citizens to Gay Marry

New York, be glad you have a Democratic governor. Before all of that Prop 8 nonsense here in Cali, our legislature actually passed a law legalizing gay marriage … until der Governator vetoed it. ‘Cause, you know, it’s so much more moral to impregnate your secret mistress and have her keep working in your home under your wife’s nose for the next 10 years than it is to get married to someone of the same gender.

No, not that old. I don’t remember it that well (had my first kid right around then), but I just this week finished reading “And the Band Played On“, & it gave me chills, over & over. Knowing the basics of the bigotry & fucked-up-ness that went on regarding the spreading of that epidemic is one thing, reading all the gory, horrifying details is something else. Early 80’s–NY politicians wouldn’t fund ANYTHING, could barely admit that those dying were human. Now, they’ve voted to finally admit that they have the right to equality. Hallelujah!
