So apparently, crazy-eyed Michelle Bachmann is married to a homophobic bigot:

BACHMANN: We have to understand: barbarians need to be educated. They need to be disciplined. Just because someone feels it or thinks it doesn’t mean that we are supposed to go down that road. That’s what is called the sinful nature. We have a responsibility as parents and as authority figures not to encourage such thoughts and feelings from moving into the action steps…

Maybe it is just me, but there have been so many closeted pervs in the GOP that when I read that barbarian part, all I could think was it sounded like role play dirty talk. “Whose been a bad boy? Who needs a spanking? Mommy doesn’t like.”

Basically, how long before this asshole goes the two wetsuit and a dildo route?

Not just married to one, she is one. Gotta love a state Senator who hides in the bushes to spy on LGBT rights rallies.

Then again, homophobic bigot is a synonym for Republican.

Was wondering when people would start asking questions about this loon (the hubby, not the Loon-loon). Her people have done a decent job shielding him from the press so far, but we will see how long that lasts if she keeps up this polling.

For the record, there is no way she gets the nomination. Not that I am not hoping she does.

    Not not.

    Appalling statement.

By the way, my fiancee heard an interview with Bachmann in which she said that she became a tax attorney because her husband told her to, and because a woman is supposed to submit to her husband, etc., etc. When is a reporter going to ask her if, given that she takes career directives from Mr. Bachmann, is he going to have veto power over her (theoretical) administration’s domestic policy? Nuclear codes? Given what we know about HIS character, seems like something that should be asked.

This is the biblical loon/Puritan attitude toward not just gay people, but everyone, starting w/ children: Humans are barbarians who must be beaten into a state of civilization.

As for speculation about where Marcus’s interests lie, I recently read that all 23 of the Bachmann’s part-time foster children were girls. Not that that means anything, of course.

This is “nice” too, & on about the same level.

Interesting coincidence, just read on the GOS that Bachmann’s husband runs a mental health clinic and gets plenty of Medicaid payments for it. Bachmann was asked about it, and did what she usually does, spin a fantasy, or lie, or unravel reality through several strands of some kind of dissociative fugue state.

Your father, of course, though his first duty is to make sure you’re married off good and quick as soon as you’re of age. If daddy is dead, you’re supposed to submit to your brother, uncle, or whomever winds up as your closest male relative. If you’re a widow, you’re supposed to submit to your son until you can be properly remarried.

Unfortunately she is now suffering from breast cancer, so keep her in your prayers. This may be an opportunity for her now to be open to some spiritual things, now that she is suffering with that physical disease. She is a lesbian.

And despite ALL OF THIS CRAZY, a segment on John King’s CNN show tonight was devoted to asking the question, “Is Michelle Bachmann being treated unfairly by the media because she is a woman?”

So there you have it: if you try to call out Bachmann for being batshit crazy, you are treating her unfairly. CNN IS SO SERIOUS!

I feel bad for the kids. With 28 of them

Well, don’t feel too bad for them. She exaggerates a bit:

NEW ORLEANS – After her speech at the Republican Leadership Conference, I asked GOP presidential candidate and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann about her repeated claims that she has “raised” 23 foster children, a comment she reiterated in an interview with CNN following her speech.

Writing in the Daily Beast this week, Michelle Goldberg quoted Kris Harvieux, who worked as a senior social worker in the foster care system in Bachmann’s county, who said at least some of Bachmann’s placements were likely short term. “Some of them you have for a week. Some of them you have for three years, some you have for six months,” he said. “She makes it sound like she got them at birth and raised them to adulthood, but that’s not true.”

According to Goldberg, the Minnesota Department of Human Services reports that Bachmann’s foster care license allowed her to care for at most three children at any one time; she had the license for 7 1/2 years.

Some of them are probably out there thinking, “she RAISED me? Really? And here I thought I was there for a week”

As for speculation about where Marcus’s interests lie, I recently read that all 23 of the Bachmann’s part-time foster children were girls. Not that that means anything, of course.

I’ve heard it said that overstretched social workers, looking for a ‘safe’ place to house a possibly angry, suicidal, and/or acting-outing teenage girl on 15 minutes’ notice, might not consider a semi-closeted male foster parent the worst possible short-term option, ifyouknowwhatimean.

Reporters have been, quite reasonably, chary about digging into a story that’s going to involve the personal lives of a bunch of young women who’ve already been through hell. If Bachmann isn’t toppled as flavor-of-the-month quickly, that’ll change, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to the inevitable attack ads.

The Bachmanns are the sort of Christians who set loose my evil twin and then she makes vicious sweeping statements about religion, particularly Christianity, and then I have to apologize in case she said them around my friends who are good, decent practicing Christians. And then I remind myself that in 30 or 40 years the planet will no longer support human (or any) life, thanks to the assholes in Congress, mostly Christian and mostly Republican, who don’t believe there is global warming or if they do believe it they think it’s god’s will and it’s a signal of the end times and I am so sorry I quit drinking for the summer because I really want to have a large glass of wine and watch something violent like “Burn Notice.”

One of my old bosses was in the closet. One day while out hiking way back in a nature preserve I came upon him on a trail by a restroom, in dress clothes and a tie calmly smoking a cigarette. My guess is that if a foot-tapping incident in the Minneapolis airport involving Mr. Bachmann blew up it wouldn’t faze her true-believer base. A problem for the presidential candidacy, but wouldn’t kill her career. They are so f-ing nuts that it would become a redemption story and whoever shepherded Bristol’s memoir through the publishing industry would be waiting in line for the rights to his/her “coming about” book. Michele-babble would still be their heroin(e).

So Bachmann goes ahead and uses a 29 second clip of the song (enough to get to the ‘American Girl’ lyric, then switches over to ‘Walking On Sunshine’ by Katrina & The Waves.

So today Katrina Leskanich tells Bachmann to cease and desist (aka fuck off) using her song at her appearances.

When does the “mainstream media” start reporting on this? I wokeup to NPR this morning to a Bachmann story about how she is a serious candidate, staying on message and rallying the masses. When the fuck does the media come in and say, “Uh Michele, we have a few questions regarding the bat-shit crazy things you’ve been saying and doing for the past 6 years.” Mark Morford at the SF Chronicle wrote an op-ed today about the insanity that is Bachmann, with links and everything. Jesus, you’d think some lazy bastard (I’m looking at you Chuck Todd) would read the piece and say, “Great! I’m totally unoriginal. I can follow up on this and look like a genius!” In know, when pigs fly (or when the Silver Fox actually asks an informed question on “Meet the Press”).

When her poll numbers start to slip. As long as she’s doing well in the polls, that will be the story and it will have to be backed up by positive stories about her personal life. Once she starts to slip in the polls, they’ll need a narrative for why and all the stories they’ve saved up about her negative side will start to come out.

Performance licenses are all well and good and legal, but you wanna go up against a guy music lovers have held in their hearts for 30+ years?

There’s a reason Bruce Springsteen got a sitting president to back off: My guess is that when you’ve been around as long as he and Petty have, your catalog has made you a shit-ton of money, and you have lawyers who can bankrupt a campaign with minimal effort.

Besides which, Bachmann’s choice is as lunkheaded as Reagan’s was. I’ve always interpreted that song as being about a suicide. Not to mention its use in Silence Of the Lambs.

I didn’t know until I looked at Wikipedia that she has an ownership interest in a farm that has received over $250K of Federal crop subsidies and disaster assistance. Small gubmint for thee, not for me.

Might be interesting to go on LEXIS and do a search in the Tax Court opinions file, to see if she was any good as a lawyer. When I was in the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS, the St. Paul office didn’t have much of a reputation.
