Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

I just started looking into the “edit button” problem, but in this new FireFox profile I’m using it seems to have gone away. Maybe I’ll switch back to the old profile and see if it still exists for me.

I read this. Obama annoys me sometimes, even pisses me off, but I’m still proud he’s in office, and glad I supportered him, and I will again.

It turns out that doing a hard (cache) refresh (control-Shift-R) makes the “click to Edit” thing reappear. It was confirmed by running two different profiles at the same time.

Sorry I missed last week. Last minute change in plans.

Went fishing this AM – caught nothing, the creek was too high and fast for trout, so we went to the reservoir and spent an hour dangling jigs and watching swallows skim the water. It was beautiful, but our cats were excited about the promised fish heads and were severely disappointed, requiring hours of naps to recover.

Okay, so I’m minding my own business on the porch hosing the cactus and two stray dogs run by. Towards the main road 300 feet away. I chased them around on foot for 30 minutes after calling the cops. Often at a dead run, in carpet slippers all over the neighborhood. No collar on either one. People and their fucking pets. My ferns got trampled in the melee. And I pulled my calf muscle again.
Fuck it. Let them get lost and picked up by the pound.

Among the reasons I hate Glenn Beck was the way he’s used some great lefties with foreign names and demonized them.

I was turned on to Saul Alinsky back in the 70’s. Probably about the time he died I guess. So, although I wasn’t into any organizing I read his books and came away with a great affection for the man. The added bonus he made me laugh. A lot. Well, yesterday I was thinking about him and remembering his idea for the great American fart in and wondered if it was online. And it is, and it’s as funny now as it was then. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have all these years.

Feeding the cats, cleaning house, reading a lightweight murder mystery, picking travel CDs since I learned this morning how to play them in the car–pretty embarrassing that I’ve had this car two years and it involves pushing one button (labelled CD) and sliding the CD in the slot. I had to do it–can’t listen to anymore news in the car. Road rage because of Republican congressional morons, libertarian walking dead, and tea partiests is not pretty. Can’t believe what a great mood I’m in after just one day’s abstinence.

Since I read Guardian headlines and Balloon Juice online I can’t totally escape but somehow the humor here makes it better. Usually.

    J. Michael Neal – Hacking the phones of family members of dead soldiers, to be accurate, although that hardly makes it any better.

But I agree with you that the title will probably fold, although Murdoch will launch a new Sunday title shortly afterwards if that happens. He better make sure that the damage is limited to the NotW and doesn’t spill over to the rest of NI. If this festers on there could be a widespread boycott of NI by both consumers and advertisers.

My 50 year old brother just took up potholdermaking after a 40+ year hiatus and he is really enjoying it. Thinking about it myself because all my potholders look like shit and I’m always afraid to touch the food on the baking sheet with ’em for fear of contracting something deadly.

    @gbear & Just Some Fuckhead @ 41:

A friend of mine’s sister who has Down syndrome made potholders for years and years. Lots and lots of potholders. Back in the early ’90s I was fortunate enough to get about 20 of them. They are the best potholders ever. They’re thick but flexible, not too big, not too small, and machine-washable. They also make excellent coasters for cold drinks or hot dishes.

I don’t know what the product description means by “wool” loops — my guess is it’s a synthetic. Cotton is the way to go.
