Firelands?
Hey, I finally got that stylish thing to work! I don’t know what was wrong with it last night when I was half asleep trying to get it to work.

I’ll assume “Firelands” is a computer game.
meh
wow.com has a really good write-up on the trash (if thats what your working on). If you are on the bosses – try tankspot.com – not as hard as the original ICC patch but a decent enough meatgrinder.

meh:I thought there was a drig for that.

Listening to streaming classical radio. Only a true classical music aficionado can hear Ride of the Valkyries without thinking of Elmer Fudd.

LOL.
I’m a little slow tonight and so it took me a full minute and a half to figure it out. Great, though.

Jeez. Get monkeyboy’s awesome reply button hack to work last night and now the “edit” button is gone.
FYWP! Sorry piece of shit…
ETA: Damn! Now after two hours the “edit” button is back. Either Chrome or WP is fucked up.

That’s the one. I always sing along. Wagner is over rated.

Glad I was too busy to get involved in that nonsense today… I try not get too HULK SMASH on the intertubes these days, and it looks like a feud that would have been problematic for me.
Anyway, looking forward to going up to Maine and hiking on MDI and possibly eating some Lobstah. Gotta take the bus up to meet the lady who is already up there, but it ain’t so bad.
Cole: Was surprised at the vegetarian spread… though I suppose I have no idea what kind of diet you have. Are you a vegetarian, or just entertaining one?

@James E. Powell:
I’m thinking of Elmer Fudd as Robert Duvall in Apocalypse Now. Whoa.

ZOMG Obama’s abolishing SS and Medicare. I can’t believe no one’s talking about this.
Oh, never mind.

What’s Opera, Doc? is the only setting of Wagner opera that I ever enjoyed.
I am not a big Wagner fan.
If Nietzsche and Mark Twain agree on something, I figure it must be right. Dad gummit.

@hilts:
Nothing says trying too hard to be cool like wearing a leather coat on C-Span.
Face it, Nick. At 8pm on Sunday nights, the cool kidz ain’t watching C-Span. They’re phoning/texting/e-mailing whoever they slept with Saturday night to negotiate whether they’re gonna do it again or if it was just a thang, no big deal.

Since glibertarian bashing came up, I found this interesting example of glibertarian thought:
Let’s say you have some opinions about what Metro should do, but you actually know almost nothing about Metro’s actual policies. You might talk to your friends about it or comment on blogs, but it’s unlikely the Washington Post will put your ideas on its Sunday local opinion page.
Unless, that is, you work for the Reason Foundation. The Post published an op-ed from Reason’s Sam Staley, who shows he knows little about Metro by suggesting a policy that’s already in place today: peak-of-the-peak fares.
(snip)
In his op-ed, Staley writes,
“ Metro must set fares based on consumer demand by applying market-based pricing. Metro is leaving tens of millions of dollars on the rails simply because its fares don’t capture the full higher value that riders are willing to pay at premium travel times. “
Staley apparently didn’t bother to look up Metro’s fare structure before writing the piece. Because it already includes almost exactly what he suggests.

Edit: quote from Staley’s opinion piece in quotes, because I would mess up block quote, and emphasis added.

Re-reading ‘The Fig Eater’, trying to shake a couple of weeks of not-great medical news off my head and trying to focus on my upcoming trip to FL (2 weeks) to meet my long-lost haven’t seem him in 20 years teenage love. Could use a few drinks, and a reply button.

I tried to warn my raid about the turtles, but did they listen to me? nope, and I got to see what’s under the firelands. Whatever, I’m just a silly ol bear tank. The other tank found that mommy turtle can get stuck chasing you between some of the rocks.

Just finished watching “Casino Jack”, about that pig fucker Abramoff and his buddies DeLay, Norquist, Rove, and Reed. Good stuff.

Are the Firelands anywhere near Firedog Lake?

@Valdivia:
I believe you are using Firefox, no? Install MonkeyBoy’s Stylish gizmo.
Go to this site, click the button to install Stylish (by itself), then come back to the page and install the fix.
I think you may have to restart Firefox for it to take effect, but you will have a Reply button. I downloaded it this morning, and it works great.

Four and a half years playing Warcrack, and I’ve finally gotten off the skinner-train. Amazed how easy it was to go cold turkey. The only thing I even slightly miss is my pack of goblins.

Guild got Shannox tonight without me. Can’t complain _too_ much, because it was a nice birthday dinner. But I wouldn’t have minded them waiting until Tuesday. :)
Valdivia
@ Steeplejack hi! I’m on chrome actually but given that all the fixes are in firefox I might just switch. Though I’ve gotten used to using chrome….thanks for the suggestion!
Eta was dc hot enough for you today? ;)

@Steeplejack:
And let me take this opportunity to chide Cole for apparently not doing anything about this issue, or even acknowledging it beyond his initial “Hey, it’s broken” post.
MonkeyBoy has shown that it truly is a one-line code fix. WTF is the problem with getting that implemented within the site? If there are deep, esoteric complications that we readers can’t grasp, let us know.
Like it or not, Cole, you run a big-time blog now–1.4 million visits last month–and allowing a trivial but crippling glitch to a vital (for many) component of the blog to fester is bush league. Please get your Web drone to fix it or let us know why it’s taking so long.
ETA: And please don’t say it’s “part of the next site rebuild”! It worked before, it’s broken now, and it should take priority over candy-ass “improvements” like auto-scrolling back to the last comment you clicked when you refresh a page.
Steeplejack
@Valdivia:
There is a slightly more complicated version for Chrome described here.
Steeplejack
@Valdivia:
¡Caramba! I was off work, so I hid out in the man-cave all day. My anemic air conditioner is not really up to the task when it goes much over 90°, but it does cut the humidity and keep things in the (semi-)bearable zone.
Supposed to go up only to about 82° tomorrow. And I’m working day shifts tomorrow and Saturday, so I’ll be chillin’ in the store.
Valdivia
@steeplejack thanks a million. I’ll try it when I’m actually caffeinated in the am. If I try it right now I’ll break my internets I’m sure :) & if that fixes it I’ll owe you a drink.
Eta yeah hiding today was the way to go. I walked to the gym a few blocks and only survived cause I went for a very refreshing (but leisurely for my back) swim. 80 tomorrow sounds like heaven!
Comrade Kevin
Here’s a question for you all.
Let’s say that President Obama ends up using the “14th Amendment option” on the “debt ceiling” “issue”. How long do you think it will take for the House GOOpers to start up the impeachment machine?
Yutsano
Darrel Issa had that resolution typed up the moment he was given the gavel to his committee. He just couldn’t quite make Presidentin’ While Black an impeachable offense.
Comrade Kevin
@Yutsano: Imagine Obama trying to run for re-election with that going on. It doesn’t really matter that the whole thing would be bullshit.
Yutsano
I may not have to imagine it. They almost jumped at the chance over Libya. But honestly it shouldn’t damage Obama too much.

Firelands trash is actually kind of fun. My pvp-based guild hasn’t attempted the bosses yet. And the turtles are a total Mario Bros. tribute as far as I can tell. Kill everything else first and then kite them all over the charred landscape.

#23 — Also, idiot glibertarian Staley didn’t think of performing a search on articles about Metro — where he would find that the trains during rush hour are still crowded because, guess what, most of us can’t change our work start times. So to recap, peak of the peak fares are in place, Metro is doing well on the money, but the problem of having to buy more trains has not gone away because demand pricing does not eliminate over-use during key times.

Was reading a story on Reuters about a NJ woman who’s really down on her luck (no job in 3 years, has applied for almost 2,000 jobs, no more unemployment insurance) when this popped out at me:
“Unlike in much of Europe, the safety net of the U.S. welfare system times out for the long-term unemployed. The federal government and many states have provided extra help for those caught up in the worst labor market in decades but the U.S. debt crisis rules out further extension of the programs.” (emphasis added)
So…real live people are going to continue to get reamed because of the imaginary debt crisis. As Yakov would have said, “What a country!”
The Raven
Coverage of Obama’s policy reasoning from the Roosevelt Institute’s, Mike Konczal, post. Not sympathetic, but also interesting analysis.

I knew the fundies were saying amongst themselves that American blacks were better off under slavery (!!) but I am amazed that Bachmann has publicly signed off on that position. Many in her base will be pleased to hear it but it is shocking that anyone can take her seriously when she does things like that.
