I’m going to do these on a regular schedule, once a week, I think, but it’s a bummer weekend and I thought another one would be fun. From reader Paul Belliveau, who’s a high-school math teacher by day.

No, please send it! Not enough geeks have heard of us!
Thanks, Doug!

I really like it! Could use some harmony on the vocals in the chorus, though.

For those who didn’t get the news last night, the chrome version of the pie filter has been updated to include the fix for the reply button. Even if you have no intention of actually pie’ing anyone, it may be worthwhile for you.
Click my name to get it.

OT..Rubin issued a non apology because it wasn’t her fault that she read and cited right wing blogs.
EDIT..I refuse to link to the Wash. Post..

@Paul Belliveau:
Try sending it up through Alyssa Milano; she’s a nerd and proud of it (loved her “Triple Nerd Score” t-shirt, unrelated to the aforementioned nerdiness, of course).
jrg
The Dangerman: Or send her a link to this thread. Seems a little less stalker-ish that way. BTW, Didn’t Wil Wheaton show up here one time?
That song’s an earworm. I’m having trouble getting it out of my head.

@JPL: Here’s a song for Jennifer.

It is a bummer weekend. I’m a really upbeat person, but the general shit and the personal shit is starting to pile up. There’s still no doubt in my mind though that the moral arc of the universe is bending toward justice. Gunga Galunga.
Paul Belliveau
Thanks, for the suggestions. I would never have thought of the Alyssa Milano connection, but I’m gonna check that out.

@jrg:
She is one of the more active celebrity tweeters and seems pretty grounded; her Dad and Brother are in the music business, so if you can tweet her and catch her eye, who knows…
As mentioned, she’s a bit of a geek; she talks about her toys all the time. Definitely an early adopter (and green; she’s proud of her Nissan Leaf, for example).
Her brother tweets at @Chloroformdays (best confirm my recollection); he might be a way to get your tweet read (if you use that method).
jrg
efgoldman: That dude is everywhere. IIRC, he used to show up on Slashdot before the word “blog” even existed.
It pisses me off when people act like asses to him, just because… “hey, this might be the only chance I ever get to talk to a celebrity of any kind. I should be a dick!”

I have been saving watching The Wire for a period of prolonged convalescence. I started season 1 this morning and now, 13 hrs later, I’m ready for season 2. Everyone was right about how awesome that show is plus I am a sucker for a detailed police procedural show.
Oh, and the sound track is top-notch.
Cat Lady
Jewish Steel: I thought I knew about stuff until I watched The Wire. Season 2 and Season 3 were my favorites. I miss all of those people, but a few of them are in Treme, which is an awesome show, also too.
Ol' Dirty DougJ
Wow, it took me a week to watch all 13 hours.
Jewish Steel
@Cat Lady: That first season seems like it will be hard to top, but I have heard the same from other fans.
Jewish Steel
@Ol’ Dirty DougJ: I got nothin to do but pop Vicodins and guiltlessly watch as much teevee as I like. Doc’s orders. (I’m not allowed to even play guitar!)
Yutsano
@Jewish Steel:
I haz a mad jelus.
@Ol’ Dirty DougJ: I just sent you an e-mail. I’m hoping you appreciate the humor in that.
Jewish Steel
@Yutsano: I told you we should’ve coordinated and got ourselves a group discount on hospital beds.

Sorry but the shoes links that are showing up on my site are just fucking horrific. The shoes that women are required to wear these days in order to be deemed fashionable are akin to the foot binding of Japanese days in history. There is no way in hell that a shoe that looks like that can actually have any good effect on a foot. Are we going to go back to the days of women binding their feet to make them pretty? What the fucking fuck?
Yutsano
@Jewish Steel: Yeah well I’m pissed at one ortho and can’t get a hold of another so I’m going to a third. The nice part about Seattle is you have LOTS of provider options, and almost all of them take my insurance. I’d be down a lot longer than you would be though.

Litlebritdifrnt @22
Don’t get me started on women’s shoes!
I remember back in the late 80s or early 90s, Margaret Atwood wrote something about how in her teen years girls wore ballet slippers but her daughter wore steel-toed boots. To her that meant her daughter’s generation was ready to take care of themselves and refuse to be victims.
Now every young woman I see is either tottering in high heels or slipping around in flip-flops. What do they do if they run into trouble and need to run or otherwise leave the sidewalk?
Jewish Steel
@Yutsano: Only two hospital options in my little burg. The Catholic charitable hospital and a fancier one up the street, but they’re both fine. I’d be happier in Chicago where the quality of care and doctors is a bit higher. Kick-ass nurses around here though.
How long will you be down for? I’m allowed “light duty” after c. Aug 3rd, I think.
Yutsano
@Jewish Steel:
7-10 days in the hospital, then normal healing tie is 6-8 weeks. But the standards are written for folks much older than me.

That’s my favorite bit of improv ever! The way Murray sort of corrects himself-“Gunga galunga..Gunga…Gunga lagunga…”- has been killing me for decades.
:D

Do yourself a favor and watch Central Station.
Jewish Steel
@Yutsano: 6-8 weeks. Damn. That’s a lot of down time.

We’re watching Luther with Idris Elba. Nice little BBC miniseries. Amazing that Stringer Bell and McNulty are Brits. Also, watch the dvd extras on the Wire, the panel discussions are awesome.
stuckinred
Furthermore, watch Generation Kill, Simon and Burns miniseries about the 1st Recon in the first month of the Iraq invasion. It is incredible.
Paul Belliveau
Thanks again for the suggestions. And feel free to go to http://www.facebook.com/PredictableFunk and click ‘like.’ That sort of thing can help when talking to internet radio stations.
I would also like to second the recommendations for Luther on the BBC, with my current favorite actor, Idris Elba. I also greatly enjoyed the recent BBC Sherlock Holmes update. And I found The Wire to be amazing. The fourth season hit a little close to home; I spent in a year teaching math in a failing inner city Middle School just outside of DC, and the fourth season focuses on Baltimore schools. I can’t say more without risking accidental spoilers, but the portrayal of inner city school life was tragically accurate.

Thanks, and Bless you.
To both CL & setb Andy K;
Yes indeed Bill Murray, that scene… brings me the kind of pleasure, of satisfaction, of the sort that I suppose causes some folks to start religions.
Here’s a link to a song, that Transcendent Event (or ‘clip’ of Karl and The Lamma for the unsanctified) as the intro and the outro; the lyrics entirely constructed w lines from Caddyshack
(such an odd thread. Once Karl and The Lamma are brought into a conversation I just can’t grasp how or why anything else can be discussed)
Dead Earnest
Well, that didn’t work.

Love the video, Paul. I’m sending the link to all your fave former gymnasts who live in Missoula.

Y’all might wait on the geek-contacting for a few days. It’s ComicCon Weekend, and Wil Wheaton is busy, busy, busy.

Furthermore, il est gros. Et d’en plus il a un air stupide.

LOVING these reader vids. The talent of Balloon Juicers is apparently limitless. Fabulous idea for a new meme.
