Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

It’s been a stressful day here, what with all the Tunch hysteria, so I figured you could use something calm and relaxing:

Lily all blissed out on the couch (which was vacuumed about seven minutes before this picture was taken) waiting for something to walk by the house so she can get her bark on.

Well damn. Jay Carney the Press Secretay schooling new “journalist”? I guess this has more bite than Gibbs since CArney used to be a reporter as well. I suspect this will go in one ear and out the other.

    Scorned!
    Carney turns tables, mocks press
Beware this is a Politico link.

…Carney told the press to grow up:

“Most of you are veteran Washington reporters,” Carney said. “You know how this process works: that if you — that when you put forward a position, it becomes highly — on difficult issues before a compromise is reached, it becomes charged politically and your chances of acting getting an agreement diminish significantly. That’s how it works. You know that’s how it works.”

“You don’t? Well you should,” he said. “Others do.”

Please post this picture regularly until the debt ceiling is raised, or our civilization as we know it crashes and burns. Whichever comes first, because it’s going to be pretty stressful until that day.

Nice pet pic, thanks. Lily is so darned cute. Glad Tunch is back.

tip to Cole: I am sure this latest Tunch escapade was all planned out ahead of time. As soon as you can quit gazing at the beloved Lily, better check on what Tunch and Rosie are plotting next

Comment to commenters: Cole, AGAIN, with the vacuuming? I think the BJ community needs to start thinking about an intervention.

Very relieved to hear about Tunch. I had a feeling he was resting in the shade, and would turn up nonchalantly, but still…

So glad Tunch is safe. I feel like I am trapped in that bus in Speed with teatards threatening to blow it up and I can’t get off. So thanks for relaxing Lily pic and for maintaining this blog where, even though I don’t comment much, I check in daily to reassure myself there are still rational people out there.

Very glad Tunch is found and back. I know the distress of it first hand. Love the pic of Lily.

I am wondering if something is wrong with me. I am enjoying Dylan Rattigan (sp), Chris Mathews and Ed Schultz on their shows since last night.
Usually some segment will make me walk away or change the channel.

So Apple should buy the USofA.

No, but it should put some context around how little money the government really has to work with, when a single corporation is about to overtake them in both solvency and cash-on-hand.

@jl, I get my housekeeping motivation from this blog although not enough to get me to Cole standards. As I was reminded just this morning when I went out on my front porch, looked at the mess the baby raccoons made last week, and found myself thinking of how John’s dad would have had that cleaned up immediately. I come to BJ for the commentary and stay even though it makes me feel like a housekeeping loser.

Great photo. What a sweet dog.

OT: I love it when Democrats do something creative. Obama tried to nominate Goodwin Liu to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, but had his choice rejected by the Republicans. They were not happy to just have an advise and consent roll, but ruled Liu to be too liberal.

California Jerry Brown just nominated Liu to the California Supreme Court. Liu is only 40 years old.

Lots of time to get him to the Supremes.

Liu is considered an expert on constitutional law, education policy, civil rights and the Supreme Court.
    __
Before joining the Berkeley Law faculty in 2003, Liu was an appellate litigator at O’Melveny & Myers in Washington. He clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and for Judge David Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He also served as special assistant to the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education and as senior program officer for higher education at the Corporation for National Service (AmeriCorps).]

And of course, Democrats wouldn’t be Democrats without backbiting and so, some are upset that Brown didn’t appoint another Latino, since Liu would replace retiring Justice Carlos R. Moreno who, oddly enough, had been appointed by young Governor Brown.

@8 Martin: That reminds me of the late September 2008 FAIL parade, when the market value of GM was a small fraction of Mattel’s. IOW, tiny toy cars were in the aggregate worth more than the real things. America, fuck yeah!

ETA: So happy Tunch is back home in the bosom of his family, but seriously, how far would his legs have carried that body?

One of Brown’s more entertaining character traits. I liked his appointment to the OC Fair Commission:

His appointment must stick in the teeth of the Costa Mesa City Council majority who have been battling with OCEA over the fate of 214 Costa Mesa City Employees facing layoff under their outsourcing scheme. The Orange County Fairgrounds is a major part of Costa Mesa’s identity and sits across the street from Costa Mesa City Hall.

That got a LOL out of me.

David Frum reminds us that he did not choose to be thrown out of the party of extremist bigots.

Reminds me of 1994 when I had to hear how horrible Clinton was that he would actually jog. In public. Wearing shorts. And oh look at that Big Mac he’s eating now. No respect for the office.

@25 No respect for the office… Sumpin like that never been seen before…

One commentator referred to Betty Ford as a “rascal.” [Douglas] Brinkley agreed with that assessment: “I remember there’s a photograph of her just dancing on the desk in the Oval Office. This was something that wasn’t previously done.

Betty Ford: Pioneer for women’s movement
    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/07/09/earlyshow/saturday/main20078126.shtml

Edit: to be clear, I approve heartily of both Betty Ford dancing, and the Obama’s hanging out in their house. Now I go see if I can find that Betty Ford pic.

The cool thing about the link to Frum? (He was complaining about a photo of the Obamas at home in shorts and no shoes relaxing…IN THE WHITE HOUSE! OMG!) The commenters were almost unanimous in thinking it was a stupid, petty post. Apparently there are some sensible conservatives, not that they have any influence on the movement.
