Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

You cannot shame the shameless.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

How quickly the message changed in Washington. The networks led with Gabby’s return for this important vote.

Nothing our media loves more than the belief that they have found the event that will finally make everyone in Washington work together. It’s almost like they completely fail to understand how democracy works.

    Welcome back, Rep. Giffords.

I assume she will be switching to the Republican party now that she only has half a brain.

Come on! Somebody had to say it.

    @gypsy howell:

The news media is political theater. I appreciate that Gabby felt that it was important for her to support her constituents during this particular time.
Michelle Bachmann interrupted her important campaign to vote no and she did not receive any press. You could write a comment on her page in support of her vote.

I guarantee that half of the scum-fucks applauding in the video were privately very sad that she’s still alive.

Riling up enough psychos in their base so at least one of them tries to murder their opposition has been a right-wing strategy since the sixties.

I wish the people talking about how Giffords was “brought in” and “used” would acknowledge that she is a human being who is capable of making her own decisions.

I’m glad she was well enough to be there – she’s a lot tougher person than I am. And, yes, I’m aware that political hay was being made, but what is there to say except “Forget it, Jake…it’s Chinatown?”

@gypsy howell: Congresswoman Giffords said in her statement why it was important for her to vote. I tend to believe that adults can determine for themselves what choices they should make. Ms. Giffords does not strike me as someone who could be manipulated into risking her recovery for political theatre.

She’s amazing. Welcome back, Gabby. Don’t stay away too long.

The race for Jon Kyl’s seat is shaping up strangely here. No Democrat wants to throw his/her hat in the ring until Gabby has confirmed whether or not she’s running. So we’ve got a list of Rs who want the seat, and no Ds. Ugh.

My friend’s dad is running for Russell Pearce’s seat. He was jogging and someone threw a metal padlock at him and hit him in the junk.

I better get a stronger cup of coffee. It’s so difficult to read the cynicism about Rep. Giffords wish to vote for something she was closely following in the media and wanting to cast her vote on it.

Everything I’ve read from her doctors and people who work with her every day says she’s fully capable of making her own decisions. I trust them more than I do the internet Bill Frists of the world, with their diagnosis-by-CSPAN-clip.

I’m clearly a heartless jerk because my reaction to Giffords showing up was “how nice, her constituents get representation on this one meaningless vote. Back to nothing tomorrow I assume?” I didn’t even get past that to worrying about political theater.

What happened to her was awful and her recovery is heartwarming but I just cannot help but feel like leaving a seat empty through this kind of extended recovery isn’t good for anyone.

    August 2, 2011 at 12:44 pm

@Don: well as her constituent, her office was still open and her staff was still handling business. Granted, no votes by Giffords up til now, but it’s not as if her constituents were completely voiceless. Fairly well documented around Tucson about how most folks felt about it, we were willing to wait for who we elected to return to her office. I understand that the legislation is indeed a shit sandwich but I also understand the need to keep from cratering the economy again and for some reason, our “sensible” elected representatives continue to hand these guys the power and keys to hold the rest of us hostage.

Yo this was a horrible political stunt and clearly it worked on some of you because it blunted your criticism of what is, unambiguously, a terrible piece of legislation. Brain-damaged or no, it’s no excuse for her or anyone else who voted for it. She should’ve stayed home.

P.S. Do not call her “Gabby,” you don’t know her and you will never know her.
