Anyway, back to my movie night:
Now watching “What A Girl Wants”. Colin Firth is in it, that was enough for me, but it doesn’t hurt that the other parts of the movie are cute too
In May, I reported that it looked like it would soon be legal in Illinois to take or possess “fur-bearing mammals found dead or unintentionally killed by a vehicle along a roadway,” given that the state Senate had just passed the relevant bill unanimously. Sadly for those of you who may have been poised ever since to git out there and git you some free meat, I must now report that Governor Pat Quinn has vetoed the bill.
…
The bill was introduced by Rep. Norine Hammond, who credited a constituent with the idea that he believed would “assist the state with both roadkill and financial issues”
care to guess the political party of the bill’s sponsor?

I’m gonna talk football. Guess what? Albert Haynesworth has been MIA in Foxboro for five straight days. Shocking, I know! So, will Bill realize that he fucked up and release him before training camp is over, or is Bill’s ego too big? And why did he think that was a good idea? WTF?
Ohh, she’s runnin’; she just doesn’t want to have to go to a debate until she absolutely HAS to do so. Even after announcing, she may skip the debates.
Also, I think Perry is announcing this weekend to take some of the limelight from Bachmann, who will probably take the straw poll.
Also, defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, who was slated to earn a $5.4 million base salary this season, has restructured his deal down to a $1.5 million base.Haynesworth was scheduled to make $6.7 million in 2012, $6.5 million in 2013, $8.5 million in 2014, and $10.3 million in 2013 according to NFLPA records.

@Southern Beale: I kinda take issue with the “hating” part of your comment, but alot of people have some serious issues about the film that has nothing to do with “hating”, but that reflect real issues and problems with the film. MHP articulated a lot of what people have a problem with.
So I went to the gym this afternoon around 4:45 p.m. My gym has a parking garage and I parked there. (Yes, I drove to the gym. It’s 105 degrees outside. It won’t get below 80 tonight. I’m not going to exercise outside.) As I walked into the gym I noticed something moving in another car. I went over to see what it was and it was a dog. Sort of a mini greyhound, or something like that. It was very friendly and came right over to the windows, which the owner had left cracked, and licked my fingers.
The dog seemed relatively perky, but it was panting like crazy. It was hot in the parking garage. Like I said, it was 105 degrees outside, so even though the car was parked in the shade, it probably was at least 95 degrees.
I got really concerned about the dog given the heat and how much it was panting, so I went in and talked to the people at the front desk. They all said, “Not again!” I guess the guy who owns the car and dog does this a lot. They’ve had the policeman that comes on duty in the evening leave notes on the car, but I guess the guy is just ignoring them.
So I wasn’t sure what to do. I couldn’t see any water for the dog to drink available in the car. The dog licked my hand through the crack in the window, so I think he could have gotten some water through the window if someone had the right shaped cup.
The gym employees said the policeman was coming on duty in ten minutes and they’d send him up there to talk to the guy. I didn’t really want to wait around for the guy because who knows when he’d come back. I could have been waiting there for hours. So finally I decided to go do my workout. When I went back to my car an hour later, the car with the dog in it was gone.
I still am not sure I did the right thing. I felt SO BAD for the dog, although it did seem pretty happy and perky and the windows were cracked quite wide. Should I have tried to take it water? I didn’t have any cups or bowls and neither did the gym employees. I didn’t know what to do. I hope they were able to talk to the guy, but even if they keep him from leaving the dog in the car at the gym, anyone who would do that to a dog will just continue to leave the dog in the car in other places too.
I’m still upset about it. I really hope the dog is okay. The guy who did that to the poor dog is just evil.

@Southern Beale: When the book was published several of us where I volunteer read it. It was interesting because the 70 year old who was raised in Bama and the 50 year old raised in IL and myself who is in between but raised in MA had different takes on it. The author received criticism because of her age and experiences but imo she nailed the feelings that were occurring at that time. I used the word feeling intentionally because whether or not you wrote about Medgar Evers death or the poor white trash trying to achieve some type of status, it would have fallen flat had she not been able to write with some type of emotion. I’m anxious to see the film. There was one part of the book that I’m hoping they keep the same but we’ll see.

In 2004, two women died in in a California rental car that had been recalled for a potentially fatal defect a month earlier, but
Enterprise ignored the recall and continued renting out the car. [Enterprise] had broken no law because current statutes and regulations don’t require rental car companies to fix recalled vehicles [and there was no financial gain from honoring the recall].
The CA legislature has a bill to remedy that that is being fought by car rental company lobbying. Meanwhile, several social1st/commie senators are promoting a federal law to prohibit renting recalled but unrepaired vehicles, and the rental agencies don’t like that.
Read the entire LA Times article (linked above), and think about the number of times you’ve rented a car in the past few years. (Yes, I know some of you have not/can’t afford, etc. You guys don’t need think about it.)

@efgoldman: I wouldn’t hold your breath. For one, Mike Reiss has been leaking reports that the Patriots were interested in Haynesworth since midway through last season. For another, the Patriots just restructured his deal, lowering his base salary this year in exchange for more guaranteed money. If he were cut in camp, they’d be on the hook for more money than they would have been before restructuring.
The stuff with Gurode was horrifying. But that kind of crap happens all over the NFL. Nevermind the legal hits that essentially turn players’ heads into scrambled eggs.
There’s no law, so reasonable, ethical, moral behavior is not required.
Big surprise there. After all, our Galtian Overlords have never let the existence of laws force them into reasonable, ethical, moral behavior, so there’s no reason to think they’ll behave any better in the absence of laws.

You did the right thing, by bringing it to the attention of the people “in charge” of the parking garage. Even with the windows open, it’s risky, and in quite a few places illegal, to leave an animal in a parked car in the heat. I hope the policeman doing a face-to-face will jolt this jerk out of his complacency!
P.S. Confronting the guy on your own, not a good idea — if he’s, shall we say, not attentive to how he treats his (presumably) beloved pet, he’s liable to have “issues” about people, especially women, questioning his judgement.

Here is her twitter feed, if you want to read it: http://twitter.com/#!/MHarrisPerry
And no offense, but just because you haven’t heard of any hating does not mean people don’t know “the facts”.
The book itself was controversial so it’s really no surprise that the film will also be so.
I could link to any number of AA blogs or magazine articles discussing The Help and the controversy, but I understand that it’s not an issue that a group of people will care about as much as I do, so I didn’t want to bind the post down.
Still just wanted to say that there is controversy.

@Chad N Freude:
What, you didn’t already know this?
Corner Stone
@Gravenstone: You are a sad, sad example of the Stone family name.
You should be fucking ashamed of yourself.
Our git never raised no fucking whiny little puzzies such as yourself.
Gravenstone
@Mojotron: You mock, but my friends and I actually harvested the occasional good condition roadkill as kids. Of course, we were doing so for the pelts (raccoon fetched about $25 back in the day). Of course, there was that night when the roadkill didn’t have the decency to actually be dead, merely badly injured. The hole thing culminated with my buddy clearing his Ruger mk. II, right between my fucking feet! Good times, good times.
Corner Stone
@Gravenstone: God. Just have the decency to choke to death swallowing your own tongue you fucking chump.

@arguingwithsignposts: I didn’t think it would extend to companies interacting directly with individual retail customers. I guess I was naive.

John: I think I speak for the entire BJ community when I say that we would appreciate pictures of Clean! Dry! Floofy! Non-homicidal! Happy! Tunch.
IOW, the exact opposite of what you posted last night.
Gravenstone
@Corner Stone: What was that, ya syphilitic chancre? Now go be a nice multigenerationally inbred waste of protoplasm and go self immolate.
Southern Beale
@JPL:
My 80-year-old mother in law read the book and loved it. She’s of the generation that had “colored help” (and in Kentucky too) but she’s rather progressive minded despite her age so she remembered asking why the woman who raised her — the african american nanny — couldn’t eat dinner with the rest of the family, etc. So it was interesting to hear her perspective.

Yay! says I.

@opal: I am cat sitting all next week for a colleague who’s going out of town for 8 days. Very excited; meeting the moggies tomorrow.

Ive heard the song Crystalline by Bjork twice so far this week. If I hear it a third time, there is going to be some damage done.

I’ve heard masturbation is fun.

@Gravenstone: What I enjoy most about the little bitches that follow the steely eyed centrist cleek is that I can say pretty much anything and everything. And those idiots gots no clue. They’re all like, “What ho? Someone somewhere said something? We must protect our beautiful minds!”
You’re a little bitch, cleek is a little punk bitch, and every chump who ever thought the stupid filter could protect them from the real world is a disconcertingly stupid bitch.

@JPL: I loved the Zen series on MP Theater. Will they make more? Three was not enough.
Svensker, you are wrong about Clooney. He is as hetero as they come—not that there is anything wrong with not being hetero.
@lamh34: I just didn’t get off on the picture of The Rock, but then I like a leaner body type. Although at my age, I will settle for someone without a creepy neck and gnarly knees and elbows. Also, too, good oral hygiene is a must.
I saw Amanda in the South Bay on another thread and she didn’t say how she was doing post-surgery. I hope all is well, Amanda

In case I haven’t been clear to this point, IMO cleek is a little punk bitch.

@Cat Lady: Moss didn’t practice, for the most part, the entire 2007 preseason. He also didn’t play in any of the preseason games.
Shinobi
Play League of Legends!

Arclite
Mojitos and Firelands?
Comrade Javamanphil
No thread for the USA – Mexico match?

@Chad N Freude:
Big surprise there. After all, our Galtian Overlords have never let the existence of laws force them into reasonable, ethical, moral behavior, so there’s no reason to think they’ll behave any better in the absence of laws.

I’m almost always just a lurker, but I have to ask – what is going on with Cornerstone and the spiteful sounding name calling? Drunk or what? What jerked his/her tail?
Fucen Pneumatic Fuck Wrench Tarmal
anyone here 300 plus pounds with extraordinary strength and lateral movement? i may know of a job that is open. traditionally males have been preferred, but, if your tall enough, and meet the criteria, the steelers may be interested anyway. let them know you are applying for the left tackle position, and don’t take no for an answer.

i hope cole gets airco again soon. If he doesn’t knock this crap off i am going to have to stop following him on twitter.

@Corner Stone: Jesus, Stone. Take a breather. Have some laughs with Fuckhead. Come back later.

@Violet:

Overwhelmingly Americans support RAISING TAXES by margins greater than two-to-one. 23 major national polls over the past 8 months all come up with the same conclusion – with only minor variations:

Of course, none of this matters because Grover Norquist disagrees and he has the US Congress in his pants…
