Quiet day ahead. Workies from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m., so I’ll be getting ready for that. The Premier League is starting up again, so maybe I’ll watch a match later this morning. And I just started reading David Downing’s novel Zoo Station. Germany in 1939. Pretty good so far. A little like Alan Fueur.
But for the moment I am lying in bed wondering why I am awake so early.

I am going to the Phils game with some peeps from work. Should be fun.
I have a bunch of errands to run for our vacation later this month. We are flying for this trip and trying not to check any luggage but I am one of those people that take half the house so I am having a hard time organizing. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.
Going to Farm Aid. Shocked to find out that, in this era of govt subs for corn and whatnot, there still was a need for this. Doesnt seem as bad nowadays as Melly’s “Scarecrow” made it seem years back

This story out of El Paso is pissing me off. The Mayor and 3 council people voted to offer health insurance benefits to gay & lesbian partners of employees, now a fundie preacher is trying to recall them and they’re doing lots of politickin’ in the church pews.
Gotta finish washing the floors that I started yesterday and didn’t finish. And laundry is next on the list. Then I’ll be making a Tuscan-style porterhouse with a cannelloni casserole and fried eggplant rounds with ricotta and tomato topping. Couple of bottles of petite syrah and my day will end nicely.
I had a full day of coding planned but my subconscious did most of the work for me while I slept. Once I was up I was done in 2-1/2 hours. Then I did some writing and now I’m enjoying some red wine and working my way through season 6 of The West Wing. The heat wave broke but it’s still too warm for comfort outside.

Housecleaning, grocery shopping, napping. The usual for a Saturday for me. Seriously, there is nothing better than the afternoon nap, especially when you have a dog and at least one of the cats snuggled up with you. The previous two mornings, I arose early and ran 4+ miles. As I am neither a morning person nor someone who usually runs more than 3 miles, this was a spectacular accomplishment. Going to watch the Angels/Blue Jays game this morning, and if the sun comes out we’ll work in the garden a bit, maybe mow the lawn so the neighbors stop rolling their eyes.
Later on we’ll continue to dig through boxes in the garage in order to find stuff for the garage sale next weekend. A bit of stuff has been processed already, but not nearly enough, and I realized yesterday that we haven’t been completely unpacked in any house since 1992. Every box we open is a surprise, since most are marked “books” and all the books were unpacked months ago.

I poured myself a cup of coffee and set out to catch up, via the ‘net, with the news. I found this:
A TEENAGER and his mum are facing eviction from their family home after he was allegedly caught looting during the riots.
In a landmark case, the 18-year-old and his mum could lose their council-owned flat as authorities get tough after the days of violence.
The eviction notice has been served even before the legal case has been concluded as the council wants swift retribution.
Seems that this was in response to David Cameron’s recent call for rioters to be evicted from council housing:
“Let’s make sure if people riot and break the law they get thrown out of their council house.”
For me today, Farmer’s Market in Bellingham but first distributing pamphlets announcing community meeting about a coal terminal being proposed that will sit on pristine marine habitat here. This is a huge thing here and will probably have some nationa exposure before its over…
Dinner with friends later —
BTW, Trader Joe’s here now carries Mozzarella di Buffalo imported from Italy. If folks haven’t tried, its amazing. Its the ball mozzarella used in caprese salad. The buffalo milk makes it a nice nutty flavor and wonderful creamy texture…to die for on ripe tomatoes, a little basil, salt pepper and drizzled olive oil (caprese salad)
You have been under some challenge. Tip my hat even further to you and wish you the very best after such trials. It shows your tenacity that you not only survived but succeeded…
Thank you for sharing this with us…

So the NYT runs an article on Brazil’s economy. The first two sentences are a treasure:
“Pondering the financial storms lashing Europe and the United States, Seth Zalkin, a casually dressed American banker, sipped a demitasse and seemed content with his decision to move here in March with his wife and son. If the rest of the world is cratering, this is a good place to be,” said Mr. Zalkin, 39.
