Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Nothing worth doing is easy.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Republicans in disarray!

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Books are my comfort food!

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

Republicans do not trust women.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

    Let’s see, Rick Perry . . . “Governor Bank-of-America”.

    “Governor BoA” . . .

    “Governor Boa”.

Wow. Has anything ever seemed so right?

Ben Folds is so unassuming and kinda nerdy looking, so I was pretty surprised to find out he’s been married four times.

Can you imagine what the media narrative would be right now if the positions were reversed? Can you imagine what the media would be saying about Democrats in congress if they had publicly stated that their primary goal was to hamstring a Republican president? Can you imagine what the media would be saying if Democrats decided to sabotage the economy for the sole purpose to damage the reelection chances of a Republican president? Can you imagine the headlines if Democrats had held the economy hostage and caused a credit downgrade…and then cheered? Can you imagine the media’s take if in a recall election, Democrats had placed fake Republicans on the ballot just to muddy the political waters? Can you imagine the stories if a Democratic Congress, elected in a mid-term election on the promise of creating jobs, had failed to provide a single jobs bill eight months after taking office?

It’s doubtful that the media would be blaming the Republican president. It’s doubtful that the media would be offering the popular meme of both sides do it. It’s doubtful that the media would be providing a neverending stream of stories highlighting the discontent within the Republican party’s political base towards the Republican president, rather than focusing instead on the outrage of the vast majority of the Republican base towards Democrats.

@Kane: It’s treasonous to question the president during a time of war. When Kerry campaigned, he was limited to what he could say because after all our fighting men were in harms way. Those were the good old days or iokiyr.

Now all they need to do is get a lead singer who can sing and they’ll be all set.

Reihan Salam sinks to new depths of flaming douchebaggery with this commentary:

One thing that is undeniably true is that American conservatives are overwhelmingly white in a country that is increasingly less so. As the number of Latinos and Asian-Americans has increased in coastal states like California, New York and New Jersey, many white Americans from these regions have moved inland or to the South. For at least some whites, particularly those over the age of 50, there is a sense that the country they grew up in is fading away, and that Americans with ancestors from Mexico or, as in my case, Bangladesh don’t share their religious, cultural and economic values. These white voters are looking for champions, for people who are unafraid to fight for the America they remember and love. It’s unfair to call this sentiment racist. But it does help explain at least some of our political divide.

That’s what I thought, too. I like the instrumental parts of that just fine, but the vocals are pretty much unlistenable.

Um, that would be a white America, but they’re not racist. Salam is a ridiculous conservative apologist, one of those Republican minorities who job is to show how “diverse” the party is. Just like the Log Cabin Republicans, or Herman Cain.

    @cathyx:

LOL. Well its Ben Folds band so I don’t think they will be changing the singer, Ben Folds.

Really I have never cared much for Ben Folds but I would say that his charms have never really been about wowing anyone with his singing voice. His voice is really fine, suited even, for the type of stuff he writes and performs. Its clear and expressive enough for music that is designed to be simple and unassuming. A kind of stripped down pop which I think is meant as a contrast to the sort of heavily produced music of its time. I think this particular song hit its height of popularity in the late 90s.

    Just my two cents.

They’ve already moved her tea-party speech on September 3 to a larger venue to accommodate the crowd. As I said on Monday, contrary to popular belief, I think she’ll end up jumping in.

Years ago, I walked past a tree branch where my niece Emily made a nest of sticks all in a row on the branch and I asked her what was it? She told me it was a Crocagator nest and it was to make them more comfortable and hide so they can jump out of trees to hunt for people. So watch out for the Crocagators, they’re lying in wait…

Now she’s a teen and goth, and she’s embarrassed about it. but it’s a great story. And damned if it wasn’t true. So just call me stumpy.
