I’m so mad about the current state of politics I’m going to write lots of angry blog posts about how Obama sucks and do nothing to change Congress!

That will show the Republicans I’m fucking serious. Clearly they didn’t get the message when I chained myself to the WH fence and sent Sheehan money to primary Pelosi.

ALSO TOO, ABL USES ALL CAPS. WHY WON’T JOHN COLE GO BACK TO THE GOP WHERE HE BELONGS?

OK. WVU is still up, but they’ve called a recess in the game with 5 minutes in the 3rd quarter on account of a thunderstorm!!!

We had a huge thunderstorm here SW of Charleston just a little while ago.

When we were kids, I don’t remember football games being suspended for a weather recess, ever! I don’t remember 100s of spectatorsw being killed by lightning, either!

One of the whole points of football is it’s a fall/winter game, you play in the worst weather, regardless. “Frozen Tundra” anyone? I was in the marching band as a kid, 55 lb brass/silver tuba, white uniform pants, marching in 6 inches of churned mud on Friday nights!!!

It’s downright un-American to call a game like football on account of weather! Even for a recess!!

And what’s the story here of this new miracle offensive coach? We’re barely ahead of MU, that’s no way to play for the National Championship!! ISN’T THAT THE WHOLE POINT OF FIRING COACH STEW????? Why treat a decent guy so bad if it isn’t going to reward us with a championship?

One more thing. I watched a couple of good college football games yesterday, Southern Florida vs Notre Dame (ranked 16th in meaningless preseason polls) and the ND coach turned bright red early and stayed that way, screaming, the entire game. Kinda of like Coach Rich Rod, of whom good riddance.

I’m a Marshall U grad, 1984, an adult student… but it was too late for me to develop green blood. My folks/brother/wife all went to WVU, and I had Mountaineer blood by the time I was like 12 or so.

When I went back to college, at 30, MU was the school I could commute to and live at home with the wife, milk cow, chickens, etc. A busy like, but I liked it. Now I’m retired, and busier than ever.

    Let’s GO Mountaineers!!

    that is all.

Become a bundler. Seriously, that’s what I was told. I was invited to a coffee with some Planned Parenthood board members and a pro-choice state senator. He explained that bundling is what gets legislators’ attention.

I don’t know how ActBlue works, if it’s like a bundler … Emily’s List is, though. Have a fundraiser, collect all the checks, send them to your candidate and tell them this is from ProChoice Voters Nashville (or wherever/whatever).

That’s what we were told, at least.

Sadly, the whole money game disgusts me.

Here’s my theory: one of our biggest problems is that we have a flaccid, clueless, moronic mainstream media which covers things in such a way as to divide the populace, make people hysterical over nonsense, and deepen partisanship.

We then have a political system in which money talks, the candidate who collects the most money is the most viable, etc. Those candidates and advocacy organizations spend these donations on … political ads and campaigns in the mainstream media.

The very same mainstream media which day in and day out divides the populace, make people hysterical over nonsense, and deepen partisanship.

Apparently right-wingers are desperate to spread the myth that Tip O’Neill once “Boehnered” Ronald Reagan in a lame attempt to make Boehners recent blatant disrespect of the office of the President appear to have a precedent. Sadly, no:

As a matter of fact, though, the Reagan/O’Neil spat was not only superficially different, but on a deeper level, it was the exact opposite. Reagan didn’t ask to address a joint session of Congress, he asked to address the House only (itself an action with little, if any, precedent), in an effort to jawbone them into supporting aid to the Contras in Nicaragua he already had the votes in the Senate). In refusing Reagan’s request, O’Neil actually offered the President a joint session. The President declined, his point made, and delivered his address from the Oval Office. Reagan got what he wanted (that time), but in case the media fails to remind you, check out how that whole thing turned out. Just for fun, contrast that with how things go when President Obama aids rebels.

Uh-oh. Media fails again. Nobody could have anticpated …

…but if they come back with “It doesn’t matter! He still didn’t do everything I wanted!!”, then it’s clear that they are beyond all mortal and possibly spiritual hope.

What if they come back with “It doesn’t matter on a practical basis, because President Obama is only marginally better than a Republican with a Democratic Congress, and that is far from enough to arrest the degeneration of America into corporate feudalism”?

John, I really feel for you. This isn’t snark. You’re like a soft-hearted guy who finally got wise and broke up with his abusive girlfriend only to fall for then next girl, who is destined also to break his heart. Please don’t play the firebagger/obot game. You will never win. Try to keep your head clear. There are always many more than 2 perspectives.

Al Gore invented the internet so liberals would have a place to vent.

I thank President Gore for that. Too bad he’s fat. Also, too.

    Great video link. Very enjoyable.

It was only last week I was driving on the freeway past Dodger Stadium behind a guy in an SUV actually shaving his head with an electric razor. I can’t say I felt unsafe as he wasn’t using the mirror (except when stopped) but it was still weird.

I can’t argue with that. My best stuff used to come when I’m satirizing Conservatives, but it’s really hard to satirize them now.

Republican rhetoric these days is my satire from the past.

@Yutsano: I grew up in Douglas, Wyoming, Missouri (which I hated) and Grand Junction, CO. Both Douglas and Grand Junction had relatively large Mormon populations.
You pointed me in the right direction, but once I saw the word “polygs” in one of her posts I was almost certain I had heard that before. I emailed an old former Mormon friend and he confirmed it. The ONLY people I ever knew to use that term were Mormons, speaking derisively about the really conservative Mormons (relatively speaking, that is) and the Mormons who still hold to the old polygamous ways.

I don’t know if you drive in to work or not but I do. And on the 45 minutes in each morning I see more shit that would boggle your mind than you could contemplate.
I’ve seen people handwriting notes while on the phone and doing 60mph.
    Much more.

Nah my commute to work is across a patio, around the obelia bush, and up the stairs above my garage. I’m lucky.

But yeah, I see all sorts of shit in my travels around Nashville. We have without a doubt the worst drivers in America. And I mean that.

Ex-pat here with a question: why does ESPN America suck so much? Seriously. We watch the college football and they don’t even bother to show the other scores… I know they probably can’t show us highlights/short clips/etc. of “other” college games (for whatever contractual reasons… blah blah blah), but Jeebus! Can’t you at least put up a scroll with the scores??

And they show too much damn hockey. Hockey!!
