Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

You cannot shame the shameless.

The revolution will be supervised.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

News from the Commish:

Fantasy Football Update!

The Elitist Meritocracy Conference of the BJFL is full up with top performers from last year’s 4 conferences. I am too lazy to run more than one conference, but other juicers have stepped into the breach. The Wignut Welfare Conference of the BJFL is now open for signup on Yahoo; the password to join is alsotoo:

Another B-J regular has set up a third league on ESPN.com. He’s going to use an auction draft system – I’ve never played that way but it sounds interesting. Some other fine points of rules and scoring may be different too, but top finishers in this league will also be invited to the Elitist Conference in 2012:

Opening Day is Thursday and fantasy drafts are going down Tuesday-Wednesday of this week….don’t be late!

Yeah…I wish I had the time to dedicate to something like this. But the way my work schedule is I’d never make a draft unless it was late at night.

Will there be promotions and relegations next year like in real football?

Yep, I expect that next year I’ll invite top finishers from this year’s conferences to fill most of the Elitist Conference.

And btw, I’d agree that “football” is sort of a silly name for a sport in which the act of kicking the ball is a “special” event. I actually like the British name for our game, “gridiron” – but then I’m a godless soshulist.

Drafted on Friday, and went with *gulp* Arian Foster with pick number 4. Making matters worse, my favorite RB2s (Stephen Jackson, Matt Forte) were off the board in round two, so I went with *double gulp* Frank Gore. Lot of risk tied up in those two. At least I don’t have Peyton Manning.

Meanwhile, in a sport that I actually give a shit about, my Detroit Tigers have followed a weekend sweep of the Chisox with an equally delicious road win in Cleveland. Life is good.
