When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Not all heroes wear capes.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

You know, I really don’t like the way OSU players emphasize “THE”. Is there a bogus pretender state university in Ohio that goes by Ohio State?

If you’re Terrelle Pryor, you call it “University of Ohio State”. Wonder if one of his tattoos says that?

He took us out a bunch with my buddy from there that played at Illinois. We’d catch big ass salmon and northern’s. This was 27 + years ago and I ain’t dead yet! With that and the agent orange I guess I’m lucky to have made 62.

Yeah, I get that. I loved playing, but when I was 12 and it was obvious that I was too small- thin, that is- to play the game, I switched to soccer. Yet I still love the sport more than any other. One of my great-grandfathers became a loyal Packer fan as soon as they started playing. My dad and one of his brothers were both captains of the storied Muskegon High Big Reds football team. It’s in my blood.

My kid’s little brother is in his second year of organized ball- just started fourth grade- and is a big kid, plays on the lines and loves it. I’m not saying that he loves punishing the other kids physically like some kids do, but loves making a good clean block or tackle. Gets off on it when his hand work is effective. Has dreams of playing for ND. I just hope he never picks up a serious injury.

Cool, thanks. We’ve got a good crew rotating over there, and Blue Gal does a nice job making it all run smoothly. Alas, I can’t spend as much time online as I used to, including C&L music threads and everything else…

Dammit, why do the Packers always need to keep it so interesting? WTB more D!

Still, great friggin’ opening to the season!

Well, shit. Good game, Packers D is going to have a good season if they keep this up.

    Whew!

Sorry for channeling my inner Cole in that last comment.

Fran’s great. What with the children and the marriage and whatnot, she still gets stuff done.

I didn’t catch the game. Were those 34 points given up due mostly to turnovers, special teams, etc. or was this just snark?

    @handy:

It was the Saints offense, which is going to cause a lot of headaches this year. But the Pack’s D, on three separate occasions, held the Saints in the red zone without allowing a TD: the Saints got a field goal, sacked on fourth down, and then the last, un-timed play from the Packers’ one.

Oh, and New Orleans’ return game, now featuring Darren Sproles, gave Brees a short field to work with.

The Pack’s D won’t yield that much yardage or that many points the rest of the season unless they get really banged up.

@handy: Very good coverage for the most part and a fantastic performance by the D-line. The Saints have a damn good offense and one of the TD was punt return. The D was pretty solid. The O was scary good.

    @suzanne:

O/T, but I was just reading some 9/11 conspiracy theory crap, and all the comments to the effect of “THE BUILDINGS WERE BADLY BUILT” are making me pray for my own death.

Not a Truther, but that canard (if such it be) goes back to the original construction, back in the early 1970s. Blue-collar New Yorkers hated the whole idea of the WTC, and one of the rotating catalog of charges was that the blueprints were thrown together by ‘brother-in-law’ firms to get contracts locked down before legislation could be passed to save the existing neighborhood, and the buildings assembled by firms better known for their political connections than their construction skills. If this had become part of the “everybody knows” CW after 25 years, I can certainly see the post-9/11 conspiracy buffs battening onto it to reinforce their beliefs…

@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): It’s possible that I’m just compensating for a lifetime of Vikings fandom (until about 10 years ago, when I just quit watching football), and I’m using the Malcolm Gladwell article as an excuse. After 10 years of not watching, I can watch football dispassionately, and I just don’t find it that interesting. My game’s baseball, which is just as stupid and boring. To each his own.

Time for my annual reading of Tom Boswell’s 99 reasons baseball is better than football. (Granted, a couple dozen of those reasons no longer apply – thanks, Bud Selig! – but, still and all…)

Also too, college football >>>>>>>>>>>>> NFL football.

Okay, I get ya now. I don’t agree with how you came in and worded it originally, though. Randinho gets the trolls on his futbol threads, and Amato gets the type of holier-than-thou, “sports are dumb and a distraction” on any sports thread at C&L (the fucked up thing there being that the same trolls will happily comment on music/film/television threads), as if it’s impossible to watch a game and still read and think about more important issues. It sort of pisses me off, ya know? Of course you do.

Sorry that you were a Vikes fan. That can scar anyone.
