From commentor Leinie:
I mentioned in the threads before they were born that the stray we took in was having kittens, and you said to send you a picture once their eyes were open. So here they are. The first picture is right after their eyes opened, with their mama, Emma Grace.
__
In the picture with just the kittens they are, from back to front, Hannah, Jules, and Butthead, who got his name because he always wanted to be by his mom’s bum until he was about 2 weeks old. I call him Buttsey.
Emma Grace is such a gorgeous cat, I’m sure all three of her babies will grow up to be beautiful dignified felines as well. Still, if the hind-ender doesn’t mature into a Buttram, he can always go by Buttsey Wooster.
What’s on the agenda for yet another Monday morning?
R-Jud
Lovely kittens.
I’m having an ultrasound this morning to determine whether the deep vein thrombosis I’ve been diagnosed with needs surgery or just more blood thinners. Whee.

*Kitten Squee*! (OK, that’s done. Whoops, not quite. *Kitten Squee!*). What a lovely cat, and gorgeous kittens. Thanks for sharing them with us, Leinie and Anne!
R-Jud–hope it works out well, and surgery can be avoided–please let us know how you do. We’ll all be thinking of you, today.

KITTEHS!
And with that I’m off for the three hour drive to Happy Valley for the fall enrollment conference. Blech. At least we get lots of good food and, for this evening, lots of free booze courtesy of the Alumni Society.

Kittens are so cute and what a good mom.

Yes, I’m a cat person too, but can they surf?

Kittehs!! They’re adorable and mom is beautiful.
@Johannes: Good luck with the ultrasound.

And, echoing above, are all the kittens staying? I’d hate to give any one of those furbabies up!

Tiny kittehs to kick off Monday morning – the BEST!
I’m back west trying to find a place to live starting in Jan. The worst part will be living alone for 6 months before my family (husband, son, 2 sweetheart beagles and the hunter-kitteh) can join me. Boy, I wish I could have some kittens to keep me company. This is going to suck.
@R-Jud, good luck – even if they go with the surgical approach it shouldn’t be too bad. All that matters is that it goes away before it travels.

So here is a heartwarming story. A Rhode Island state legislator (a Republican, incidentally, of whom there are few in RI) went to the State Police to file a cyber-stalking complaint because “people were saying things about him on blogs.” The horror!
In the course of taking his information and registering that complaint, the State Police ran a routine check on this guy, and found that he had an “extensive”, although otherwise unspecified, record in Massachusetts, and was technically a fugitive from some warrant there. So later on they went to his house and arrested him, and he spent the weekend in jail, and now has to fight extradition to Mass.
Object lesson here is not to complain about people saying things on blogs.

Sorry I’m late to this, but to answer the question of if they are all staying, we are still negotiating. To keep them all would be to put the total cat count to seven, and I don’t know about that many cats.
But I don’t know that I can give any of them up because at this point, they have all climbed into my heart. I have two of them climbing on me as I type this. Hannah is so sweet and rambunctious and Jules is clever and Buttsey likes to sleep curled up in a ball on my shoulder. How do I give that up?
Yes, Emma Grace is gorgeous. Shes also meean to the other three, longer term established feline residences. The pregnancy meant we didn’t get her integrated with Hippy, Mau Pau and Squeak so now we’ve got an uphill battle.

@leinie:
It is very hard to give up kittehs. I’ve tried and failed. But good luck!
And good luck to R-Jud.

Well cared for babies and one of my favorite tunes on Pandora! I think that perhaps the universe likes me after all.
R-Jud, gotta get that DVT looked after. Those monsters can devolve into some dangerous things. So if you want to live, listen to the doc and do what you’re told.
And good luck. I have the impression that most of them resolve quite nicely.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
The reason Balloon Juice is at the top of my daily blog reading is because it is one of the few political / social sites that realizes people can’t survive on politics alone.
We need to see a dose of reality, a bit of kindness otherwise we’d all want to get a tire iron and beat the shit out of any politician and American Taliban we run into.
Though that is a entertaining idea, it is still illegal.
I need these kind of posts, and to those who absolutely say they have no place here, well, there are other sites…
My $0.02…

@Linda Featheringill: Thanks (to you and everyone else). It’s small, it’s in my calf, and it’s almost certainly formed in the last three weeks since I broke my leg. So they’re confident that a week of daily injections plus three months on blood thinners should take care of it.
“Very, very, very low risk of embolism,” is how the doctor put it, which is what one wants to hear in this situation.

@Kristine: Their eyes won’t stay blue. I thought Our Gracie (almost all black) was part Siamese because she had blue eyes when I first brought her home (just barely six weeks old) but within a month or so they turned golden.
I wish I could have one, but my tiny apartment is full up with me, Lucy and Our Gracie.
grandpajohn
Lucky you, we had a stray that was pregnent show up and start eating with the rest of the cats, the raccoons and possums that also show up at our back door to eat cat food. well one morning she showed up obviously not pregnant but we found no sign of kittens so after a while we figured that maybe since she was rather young that they might not have survived, then one morning about six weeks later, suddenly mama and 4 babies were on the porch, 4 babies that had never been touched or handled so were wild, and ran tp hide as soon as the dor opens or they see one of us, so now the question becomes how can we ever tame them enough to get them to the vet at the appropiate time for shots and spaying?
any suggestions?
R-Jud
@karen marie: Tillie, 8 weeks, is our latest addition, and her eyes are brown. Straight-up brown. I’ve never seen this in a cat before. No sign of them changing yet.
leinie
Their eyes are starting to change. They are going kind of greyish green at this point, so we’ll have to see. Emma’s are a greenish gold, that’s probably where they’ll end up.
grandpajohn, she was mostly an outside cat, that we were trying to lure indoors, when she ended up with an abscess on her tail from a bite – only we didn’t realize that was what it was, we thought maybe she was miscarrying. We took her to the vet, got that fixed, confirmed the pregnancy, and then took her home and gave her a room of her own. We wouldn’t let her back out, because we had to give antibiotics for the abscess and because we wanted the babies born in the house.
Isolating her indoors was good for the babies, but not so good for getting her socialized to the other three. She tolerates Hippy, barely, because everybody loves Hippy, but she and the other two not so much. That is really going to be my challenge.
Thanks for all the love for my babies!

@leinie: They are cute as hell and mama is beautiful, too. I love me some black kittehs.
@R-Jud: Good luck, R-Jud.

It’s 12:11 pm on a Monday. It is time for impending doom. The Orioles going quietly is just an illusion.
gogol's wife
@grandpajohn:
You have to trap them. The vets usually have the traps you can borrow, or a rescue service would. We did this and the three cats are now living with us, semi-socialized. They’re sweet and cuddly until you try to get them in a carrier to take them to the vet, which is a problem. One of them we have to sedate. But I wouldn’t go back and do it differently!

The impending doom has materialized.

@karen marie: Sweet picture. What kind of dog is Lucy?
