Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

“They all knew.”

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

The National Guard is not Batman.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

75% of people clapping liked the show!

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

We still have time to mess this up!

Closing Time…

Two episodes to go, and surely there’s not enough time to resolve all the mysteries from last season, let alone from this season? I suspect that, in about a week, the screaming from those who want everything wrapped up neatly (and particularly those who hate that Rory and Amy haven’t spent the last six episodes weeping constantly for their lost baby) is going to be deafening…

Episode starts at 9pm Eastern. No spoilers until it’s over, please.

I think Cole is running a Ponzi Scheme here. He’s now getting a cut of EDK’s phat cash from Forbes and ABL’s pay from The Grio.
He’s been the ultimate pageclick farmer for cash.
I picture him like a WV Suge Knight, thugging it up to force talent to sign contracts with his label. They raise a stink? They get the dogs snarling in their fucking face! Don’t wanna sign that check over to Accident Row Records? Tunch pays you a little visit.

I can’t stand Rory. This is a guy who lived for 2,000 years and didn’t change one iota. (Yes, I know the universe rebooted, but doesn’t he still have all the memories?)

Could I put a “no spoilers above the fold” request in to the front-pagers, too, on the grounds that some of us don’t have cable and have to wait for Netflix to send us the discs (or to stream a limited version of the discs a month or two later)?

I finally catching up on my DVR recordings of the new fall season. I just watched Modern Family. I gotta say that the show definitely earned its Emmy wins. IMO, this show is one of the consistently funny sitcoms ourt right now. I can see why it’s a winner.

I was reading an article that was wondering if/when we will ever see a wedding between Mitchell and Cam. I personally would love to see it, as long as it’s NOT gimmicky, but this show doesn’t really seem like a show that does gimmicks.

i watched Revenge on ABC and I gotta say, I liked it. Now I wonder how they are gonna sustain the concept, I read that the season is broken into 2 storylines…so the questions in the plot will be in answered by mid-season and a new plot point will begin leading off from the murder in the pilot ep. Season 2 if renewed will be a new “revenge” plotline.

I like it. ya’ll should check it out before it’s to late to catch up or it gets cancelled.

watched Charlie’s Angels pilot on ABC…uhmm yeah…NO. Didn’t make it past the first scene. I didn’t even want to see it after the first break. Buh buy Charlie’s Angels. Got better things to watch this season. I give it less than 6 episodes before cancellation.

Also watched Person of Interest on CBS. It was good. I was surprised at least once in the episode twist, so that’s saying something. I don’t know if it will last a whole season, but I’m gonna add it to my DVR season queue along with Revenge.

If you are already a big brother’s watching us conspiracist, then I recommend NOT watching Person of Interest…lol. But if not, you’ll like it I think and hey u may even like it if you are a conspiracist.

The last show I watched was Prime Suspect on NBC and I never thought I”d say this, but I was never so happy to see someone have a heart attack (if u see/saw the pilot you’ll know what I mean). So I’m a big fan of the BBC/PBS miniseries showings of the BBC version of Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren. If I had a suggestion, I’d recommend the original 7 miniseries adaptations above the TV versions,

Still, I didn’t hate this American version and Maria Bello was pretty convincing. So I’ll add it to my DVR seasonal queue.

That’s it for new series I think. There are a few more coming out in October that I plan to give a chance too.

I liked how smooth Jim Cavaziel was with everything. Didn’t like him shooting people in the leg, as that’s a real no no if you want to put someone out of the ability to harm you.
I’m sceptical the good angel character is going to be able to match the intensity needed. Seems like a weak casting choice. They’re going to need to bone up his backstory if this series will make a season.

Matt Smith has been outstanding this season. No doubt about it, my favorite doctor of the nu-Who era (Tom Baker is still my favorite of all time).

Goodness, though, they have a good bit of work to do next week to wrap up most of the loose ends. I do hope they don’t answer every lingering question – I love the long story arcs and the good character development.

@gnomedad: I imagine that they will answer the most glaring questions – and leave a few choice bits for next year (the new season doesn’t start until next fall – yikes, that is a long wait for new Dr. Who).

@Sarah Proud and Tall: Yep, like most things in life today, cranky and obsessive trolls are attempting to suck the life from everything good and fun. Two bits says that the same folks complaining about story arcs and confusing plot developments would be ripping Moffat for simplistic plots and ‘not challenging the viewers’ if he went for nothing but stand-alone episodes.

I have decided that life is a great deal more livable when you don’t expect everyone to do exactly what you want, when you want it, and in the form that you demand.

Hmm, maybe a few folks around here could apply that notion to politics…Nah…

    ** BIG SEASON SPOILERS **

I really want to slap the people that keep bitching about there not being enough weeping over the missing baby. Amy didn’t even know she was pregnant until she gave birth, and Rory had all of maybe 20 minutes with it before it was taken away. In many ways, the baby is more of a concept than a reality for them. Amy was plenty upset when it was taken, as evidenced when she was about to shoot River, so it’s not as if it didn’t bother her at all. Add in the fact that they now realize that River is their daughter, and their best friend growing up was also their daughter (which means they got to watch her grow up), and they have plenty of reason to know that their baby is fine and turns out good. It’s not as if it’s this big looming question mark over their heads and they never see her again. They also know that finding her and raising her themselves would completely wipe out huge chunk of their history. So yeah, enough with the whining.

Is there not even going to be a Christmas special this year? Now there’s a reason to hate Moffat. Boo!

OK, Google is my friend and has coughed up some details.

The special, set during World War II, sees Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, evacuated to a draughty old house in Dorset, where the caretaker is a mysterious young man in bow tie, and a big blue parcel is waiting for them under the tree. They are about to enter a magical new world and learn that a Time Lord never forgets his debts…

Claire Skinner is Madge, and Bill Bailey is in there, Arabella Weir, and even Alexander Armstrong, so I guess Mr. Smith is up to no good again.

    @El Cid:

I didn’t hate Davies, but he did have some flaws as a story-teller; ending every season with Universe-Exploding Action(tm) was one. And I’m sorry, but Tennant’s departure was painfully soppy, drawn-out and weak. On the other hand, if it wasn’t for Davies, the show never would have been revived in the first place, and that would have been a terrible shame.

Enjoyed this week’s episode. As noted, nice to see the old-school foes again.

“the screaming from those who want everything wrapped up neatly”

That sentiment reminds me of something I also see in the comic book world. A stark division in today’s audience seems to be between people who simply accept whatever the creator gives them and people who have expectations they want met. I remember two guys on a message board talking about how great an issue of Grant Morrison’s “Seaguy” was while simultaneously admitting they didn’t understand most of it. And it wasn’t even like they were blaming themselves for not being smart enough to understand it.

@Sarah Proud and Tall: How about us “Hate Moffatt, rather like the arc but please get on with it and, doubly especially, how about story > drama for once” sorts? :-)

Love “Stormageddon” and cybermats and Amy getting a life and succeeding and blue envelopes and “The Doctor” nametag and Craig de-Cybering because his baby was crying for him. This week was MUCH more what I expect from Doctor Who (except maybe less running down corridors away from monsters than usual, which was just fine for a change :-D
