Sorry, forgot to put this up. Been cooking all day for the party. On the menu, I slow roasted a 12lb pork shoulder on the grill, made a Carolina vinegar based sauce and coleslaw for pulled pork sandwiches, pickled sweet beets, sweet potato fries with sea salt and rosemary, and cooked down some beans for 10 hours with a ham hock and some bacon ends. Added some fire roasted tomatoes to the beans, and it really came out well. I love cooking for a lot of people. The key to good reviews is to make sure you have lots of booze in them first.

Now drowning my misery/prepping for celebration with a house full of people.

    Well, Mizzou-OU is quickly turning into a horrorshow. I’m a Mizzou fan, but I ain’t stupid-I know a lot of our success this last decade had to do with not playing the Big 12 South every year. And Deaton is toying with joining the SEC, presumably in a division with Bama, Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas? Jesus, we’d never have a winning record again.

    @Mr. Stagger Lee:

    That’s what I’ve been thinking for a while. If we must have our 16-team SupahConference bullshit, then the logical solution is for the Big Ten to bring in what’s left of the Big 12 North and go up to 16. Then OU/OSU/Texas/Texas Tech go to the Pac-16 that all the ESPNers keep drooling over. It all works out pretty logically, or at least more logically than the current mess. But they keep saying they don’t want to expand, and if they do they’ll probably try to nab some Big East team. But it looks like OU and Texas have hashed out their differences, so the Big 12 will stay intact, at least for a while, and maybe we’ll bring in BYU or Houston or whoever.

    As a Mississippi State fan my only hope of victory these days comes from beating Ole Miss and SEC East opponents. We went 9-4 last season and came in 5th in the SEC West. Dan Mullen has only managed to beat 1 team in the SEC West so far. We haven’t beaten Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas or LSU in like 3+ years.

    Down in some local tavern,
    Drunk as drunk can be.
    Hang down your head, Sox fan,
    Hang down your head and cry,
    Hang down your head, Sox fan,
    Your team is bound to die.

    47-21–what a shame.

    @burnspbesq:
    Please, Hashem, this is like 2005? Just get them to the playoffs and they can stink up the joint once they are there because to ask for two miracles is chutzpah.

    LSU fans who traveled to Morgantown are calling in to the after-game show on WWL/LSU radio as they’re caravan-ing back up to Pittsburgh.

    Of course they enjoyed the Tigers’ win but mostly they called to gush about the friendly welcome and treatment they received from the WV fans and folks in Morgantown.

    Just passing it on.

    @South of I-10: A fellow Cajun! Yes! I’m in College Station these days, and I do cheer the Aggies. And I don’t mind the Texans. But give me a Cajuns/Saints weekend over an Aggies/Texans weekend.

    Also, FUCK LSU.

    Well, when their defenders can rip the ball away from a first down reception, there isn’t too much you can do.

    I was born and raised a WVU fan, everybody in my immediate family went there – brother, wife, mom and dad. Dad would get us up a 5 am (he worked nights and often was running on 5 hours of sleep) to drive from Beckley to Morgantown back in the late 50s and 60s.

    The old Mountaineer Field! We saw the Mountaineers loose to Joe’Pa over and over.

    But due to life choices, I live 85 minutes from Marshall, and 3 hours from Mgtn… so I graduated from MU, dean’s list BSCS. I never did understand why the folks in Huntington wanted to be a BAD division I team instead of National Champs in Div IIA, over and over!

    Yesterday was a really bad football day. I even rooted for Pitt as a fellow Big East team, and Notre Dame and Touchdown Jesus beat them. I don’t think Pitt stands a chance against WVU this year… They should run the rest of their schedule.

    I’m still proud to be from West Virginia, where there aren’t many swamps, and proud of the Mountaineers too. Although the Coal Magnates and Milan Puskar contributors kinds give me a sour feeling in my stomach, but that’s a different storyline.

    Go Mountaineers!

    One more thing: the SEC officiating team.

    I think they did a better job that I expected. LSU got some great spots on rushing plays, and I saw some facemask fondling that lots of ref’s would have thrown a flag for.

    But all the breaks didn’t go to LSU, WVU got a couple too.

    On that ball ripped from the receiver’s grasp, I think he was down and the play over before they got the ball out, which was probably why he didn’t fight any more.

    Crow, I’m having crow again.

    That is all, too, from southern WV.
