Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

The revolution will be supervised.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Bark louder, little dog.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

When we show up, we win.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

Not all heroes wear capes.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

Goddamn Braves seem determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Let the Phillies tie it up and have gone to extra innings. Starting the bottom of the tenth.

Watching the stream from ESPN.com, which is working really well. First time I’ve tried it. (The DVR is laboriously recording two shows simultaneously, so I can’t watch on TV.)

What a coincidence, I just read a study, by doctors and scientists in white coats and those shiny mirror things on their heads and stethoscopes, with recently decoded satellite data, and numbers and graphs and stuff, that said posting pet pix is a sure cure for lack of motivation.

Edit: just occurred to me that Cole is probably bragging. So, never mind.

Could your lack of motivation be linked to the fact that it keeps raining and raining and raining and more fucking rain and rain forever, never stopping rain, I swear to Jesus a 3′ catfish just swam up my driveway rain, until everything, even concrete, goes soggy and mushrooms are growing out of every crack and crevice in your town including from your own very personal cracks and crevices?

I’ve been working out a lot lately. I’m increasing things gradually and am closing in on an hour of cardio a day. Weights every other day. Yoga once a week. I haven’t lost much weight but clothes seem to be fitting better. Still rehabbing the hip/back, but I’m better enough that I can work out. It’s a nice change. And it all helps my rehab progress.

Yanks, Phillies send a message: we can win if we want, but we’d rather make you guys suffer through extra innings and a one game playoff.
YANKs: hey, we’ll spot you a six run inning after dominating with a grand slam.
PHILs: check out our pitching-we can get back in the game late, even when we don’t bother to get hits.

So apologies if this has been discussed, but the meme du jour among my wingnut friends is that the Obama administration pressured Ford to stop running an ad criticizing the bailout. This has been one of the most exciting closing days/nights to a baseball regular season that I can remember.

Shifting the schedule so the season ends on a weeknight, and doesn’t get overshadowed by the Almighty NFL, is one of the few smart things Bud Selig has done.

One 13-inning game, one 12-inning game, a 2-out walk-off home run to win it in Baltimore, a 2-out, 2-strike home run to send it into extra innings at Tampa, then the winning home run in Tampa immediately after the one in Baltimore. Holy goddamn shitballs.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:32 am

@Spaghetti Lee: Not even close to being true. If by “pennant” you mean a league championship that puts a team in the WS, then more than half of the 30 ML teams have been pennant-less over the last decade, and four of them have had longer droughts than the Brewers: Cubs (1945), Nats/Expos (1969), Mariners (1977), Pirates (1979).

If by “pennant” you mean a postseason berth of any kind, then there are five teams that have gone without over the last ten years, and none of them are the Brewers. Milwaukee was the NL wild card just three short years ago.

Having said that, 29 years is an awfully long time to go without a WS appearance. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing you guys play my Tigers in the Fall Classic. It’d be right neighborly, in fact.

@Chet: I think she means, of the teams remaining, all of them execept the brewers have been to the series in the past 10 years, which is true. Heck, even Atlanta has been out of the series for longer than anyone else currently remaining in the hunt.

    @Chet:

I meant the teams in the playoffs this year. And by pennant I meant WS berth.

    @Mark S.:

They’ll always have the 2004 ALCS.

Let’s not forget the 2007 division series.
