I got a couple of emails this week from people who wanted some help from B-J readers.
* Uniting North Carolina wrote about this billboard campaign that they’re trying to fund. Their organization’s goal is to encourage acceptance of immigrants in their state.
* A doctoral student at Texas Tech wants to have you answer this survey about political attitudes online. Fair warning: it’s long.
If you have a legit activity that you want pimped, drop me an email and maybe I’ll make this a regular Friday feature.

I took the survey. I liked doing it. Makes ya think…

What is the difference between “Quite a Bit” and “A Great Deal”?
ETA: “How much attention do you pay to political stories while watching CNN? ”
What if you don’t watch CNN?
ETA2: “How often do you use a social networking site such as Facebook or MySpace? ”
WTF uses MySpace anymore?

Thanks for pimping the survey, I took it as well.

That Texas Tech student knows his/her audience :)

@JPL: I couldn’t resist.

Took it. Made me think I’m not doing this commenting thing right. (Threatening an IP address? Srsly?)

@Raven (formerly stuckinred): you take that back or I’ll kick the shit out of you over the Internet! ;)

@arguingwithsignposts:
Or FOX, or NBC/CBS/ABC. The survey desperately needs a “N/A” option. If I answer “None” (i.e., I pay no attention to political stories while watching CNN) one could reasonably infer that I do watch CNN, I just don’t pay attention to their political stories. This does not accurately reflect reality.
arguingwithsignposts
@SiubhanDuinne: For me it’s even worse. I don’t have a TV, so I don’t “watch” any of those channels or programs unless something’s pointed out to me. There should be a gateway question there.

@arguingwithsignposts: Maybe the person is developing the instrument.

@Raven (formerly stuckinred):
It might be useful, then, for our comments to be communicated to the survey designer. I couldn’t tell from mistermix’s intro whether the doc student is a regular BJ reader or not.
ETA: I will take the whole survey later and hope there’s an opportunity to leave comments.

@Raven (formerly stuckinred):
Something tells me the student is a research assistant doing grunt work for the prof. in order to get a second-level publication credit.
It would be nice, however, if there were an “other” or place to put general comments about the questions somewhere.
ETA: @SiubhanDuinne – there’s not, unless I missed it.

Hope it’s okay to auto-pimp: For Boston area BJers, I have an available bedroom in my East Boston apartment that I’d like to rent. Currently in residence are myself (female, 53), one other activist (male, 23), and he-who-must-be-obeyed (the petit dog, 16). The apartment is great (an enormous, sunny duplex), the room is great, your roommies are great, East Boston is great, and the rent is great ($650 *including* utils). 10 minute pretty walk to T (Airport/Blue line), then 8 minute ride to Downtown Crossing. Please email me for more info – hillaryrettig nullatnull yahoo nulldotnull com.

I also wish s/he had written “principal investigator” instead of “principle investigator.”

@arguingwithsignposts: Agreed. Should have been a ‘Do Not Watch’ button.

having a hard time remaining coherent through the thing – it is long. But here is the form of question I have no ide how to answer:
I probably would be mean or cruel in return but not because I expect it will correct their behavior.

Just wanted to pop in to say a quick thank you to mistermix for posting a link to the Uniting NC campaign. I e-mailed him a couple days ago about it because I thought the Balloon Juice commentariat would find it interesting.
We’re really close to our fundraising goal of $3500 with just a few days to go, so if any of you Balloon Juicers are from North Carolina, or just care about how we treat immigrants in this country, it would be really great if you’d consider throwing in a few bucks to put some positive messages about our new neighbors out there.
The campaign ends Monday at 8pm Eastern and every $5 helps. Thank you!

Yeah, that poll needs work. The question on media sources needs some additional options: Do not watch, wouldn’t watch if you paid me, wouldn’t watch for love or money, only watch clips of it on the Daily Show, etc.
At some point the poll needs to check if you are an American. Probably around where it asked if you voted in the last American election. That could be important.
As well as asking if you campaigned for a candidate, they should ask if you campaigned for a cause.
