Why not both?
Also, too, are there any sweeter words in the English language than “NY Yankees Eliminated”?

@dr. luba: Yes: the NY Yankees are eliminated by the Detroit Tigers.
Morbo
@befuggled: Three cheers.

@befuggled:
Despite having lived in Michigan for more years than I care to remember, I was never much of a Tigers fan. But I sure am today!

Perfect timing for this thread. I am soliciting input for the best country influenced Nick Lowe album for my spouse’s birthday. His discography is immense and I am having a hard time deciding based on Amazon samples.

In other news, the NYT takes to the fainting couch over an Onion headline:

I think Cash’s peaks are about as high as you can get. On the other hand, Cash is one of the few performers whose songs I’ve mostly ‘unchecked’ in my music library. I was happy that he found a good producer for his last album, wish he’d done that sooner.

Sounds like you didn’t actually read the editorial.

ty mistermix! any thread with a bit of Nick Lowe in it is always welcomed! Talk about a guy who has made all the stops on the career train and is still able to impress, my man Nick is the one!

@Chinn Romney:
How so? It’s the second to last paragraph of the entire article.
ETA: To clarify, they could have used the old standby F–k instead of replacing the word.

@piratedan:
Seconded.

@MoZeu: I’d vote for The Convincer but ymmv because his earlier works were more my speed, but I’m still not sure that there are many out there that have his gift for lyric.

@MattF: Cash had Rick Rubin produce his entire series of albums on the American label. All 5 (?6–I lose track) are very good. And the Unearthed box set is great to–the outtakes that didn’t make the albums for whtever reasons.

On tour with Wilco-pretty cool!

@arguingwithsignposts:
I was referring to the ‘fainting coach’ description. Anything but, I thought. First piece I’ve seen in fact, that didn’t have it’s lips all over Jobs ass.

@master c:
caught them a couple weeks ago: good stuff!

@master c: Saw him with Wilco just this last Wednesday in Madison, WI. An awesome show overall. Whole Love is a good album, and they played a good deal of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot to boot.

The Obama Administration is about to close down the Medical Marijuana outlets in California. Press announcement later today.
I know I shouldn’t approach any one issue as a deciding factor in supporting a politician. I know not supporting Obama in the 2012 election will be equivalent to biting off my nose to spite my face.
But….this is one issue that could cause me to ‘break the camels back’.
Throughout this Administration we’ve seen compromises so that the policies enacted were half measures at best in order to placate the opposition. A Stimulus Bill that was way too small, throwing Single Payer overboard immediately, budget/debt debates using Republican talking points and then being surprised that the framing of the issue completely ignores a more progressive result.
This Administration has gone after it’s own liberal base more than it has it’s Republican opponents. Yea, they are trying to be ‘adults’. They are trying to appease ‘independents’. I can’t understand that they don’t see these ‘independents’ aren’t independents at all. They are Republicans who for what ever reasons don’t want to call themselves Republicans. These folk will NEVER vote for Obama. Never. So once again we have an issue where a Democratic Administration is going after their own base to be ‘adults’.
Will this killing Medical Marijuana by Obama’s DOJ get those ‘Independent’ voters to vote for him in 2012? No, not only will it not get their votes but I can promise you it will lose mine, and my face be damned.

I noticed the RW blogs are freaking out for Lawrence O’Donnell asking Herman Cain why he sat out the civil rights movement while he was a college student in Atlanta.
You could tell it incensed Cain. I’m guessing some of the “brainwashed” and “plantation” African Americans of his generation have probably suggested he was a coward on more than one occasion.

I love Nick Lowe–as a performer, songwriter and producer. His musical contributions can’t be overstated.
Have only seen him once–with Rockpile–in a small club. Would love to catch up.
Also, too, I presume y’all know he was once married to Carlene Carter, hence, a ferealz Cash connection.

@trollhattan: he’s much more the crooner these days, but he can still write those songs that make me smile while I sing along after I’ve learned them….here’s two from The Convincer….

Main reason I didn’t bother with HSB this year is that Nick Lowe and Dave Alvin weren’t there. (The Mekons did play, but I would have had to play hooky on an insanely busy work day to see them.)

Hey, I ran into Nick Lowe in my local supermarket in London ( he’s in the neighborhood along with Robyn Hitchcock) and had a nice chat with him. All I could think to talk about is that we both knew this awesome tele player from DC called Bill Kirchen, I still find myself wanting to tell him that not only are his tunes great but his production work (i.e.Elvis Costello Blood and Chocolate) is aging really well. I just saw him film a BBC gig here, and he was on great form.
I wont go into the time when I met Jimmy Page on the street, that almost made my mind melt into its primal 12 year old state.
