This email, from Friday morning, just turned up in my junk folder. I don’t think Cole has seen it, since he’s been travelling, but we all know that he supports Evelyn’s work… not to mention JRTs who get themselves into trouble…

Good morning John,
__
Have a little female Jack Russell Terrier, Penny, that does have an owner but she was hit by car and he has spent every dollar he has (over $900) in vet bills and now learns that she has to have front right leg amputated. Vet estimates $733 and he does not have the money to pay for it.

She is about 7 years old and he has had her since a puppy. She is his whole world. He was told to contact Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue for help… Our finances are stretched to the limit right now with over 60 dogs and 30 cats currently in our care needing homes and/or transport to other reputable rescues in the Northeast.

I am hoping that your loyal Balloon Juice followers and animal lovers will again step up to help us help Penny. I have attached pictures of her taken this morning. She needs to get back to vet as soon as possible for surgery.

    Damn, had to put tires on the van, $500 for the mutt’s vet visit this week, the bride runs into a curb costing another tire. . . I’m in. Only $20 but damn, poor little knuckle head.

    Only had a few buck to kick in. Want to help Penny and in the memory of how Fate was extremely kind to me almost a year ago. My dog Kate had somehow slipped out of the backyard. We found her at the end of the street. We assumed she’d been clipped by a car, but thank God, she only had a few abrasions on her cheek. She got checked out at the vet and released that evening with only the Cone of Shame. Bless the concrete solidness of the pit-bull mixes’ head!

    I also have a memory that made me want to pitch in with vigor. My now-passed baby girl managed to slip through two doors at the vets’ the day after she was spayed and got hit by a car. In his kindness and guilt, he paid for her surgery, and she got to even keep her leg.

    May Penny always be a lucky Penny!

    @IlsaLund: We’ve used Chip In for fundraisers before, they’re great and a straight up group. Charlie’s Angels can set up the widget for the amount they need, put in their paypal addy (goes directly into set up person’s paypal acct) and it keeps track of it where ever you put the widget so donatees can keep track too. Heard about them from Pam’s House Blend.

    Tried to donate via my iPad, but Paypal kept deleting the dollar amount and asking me to re-enter my information. If someone can update this tomorrow morning and let me know how much is still needed, I’ll pitch in what I can once I get on my regular Mac. (My bichon is looking up at me with her best pleading gaze as I type, imploring me to do the right thing, even though she doesn’t actually like socializing with other dogs.)

    I just sent $20 – I would have sent more, but my take-home was recently cut about in half…
    I think we are doing pretty well by Penny. A quick adding of the amounts listed in the comments I think puts us at or over $500 so far. I might be a little off, but I’ll bet my calculator works better than McMegans. I’d wager that I am at least within the correct order of magnitude, anyway.
